my upper lip doesn't go up enough and covers a lot of my front teeth. I want it to be more mobile so it goes up more. Does a frenectomy help with this?

Hi, I'd love to double check with you something that I was told but i'm not sure about as it feels uncomfortable to me. should I really keep my tongue on the spot even when drinking from a cup or bottle as i'm sipping, and not only afterwards when I swallow? or can I just sip with my tongue lowered then resume my swallow and tongue on spot? sorry if it is not related to this particular video, but would really love to get your opinion on this as i'm unsure.

If you are drinking quickly and multiple sips at a time, your tongue will be lowered for a prolonged time because the liquid has to continuously flow into the mouth above the tongue. If you are taking one drink at a time, the tongue should press up to the palate to initiate the swallow. This is also true for when you are swallowing your saliva or chewed food.

I am not familiar with them. From a quick overview, it looks like they claim to widen the palate while they straighten the teeth. I don't know enough about them to know if this is true. Sorry!

hi! I noticed that when trying this, I can barely stretch my lip out past my nose, and only a couple millimetres upwards, seemingly because the frenulum is short and attached very close to the bottom of my upper lip... very minimally to what you demonstrate. My question is, will this manual stretch eventually stretch a very tight upper frenulum, or would it need to be cut/released surgically? (I've seen this mentioned when talking about lip ties and such)

Jenna, it depends on if the restriction is limiting your ability to accomplish an easy lip seal at rest. If you can't seal your lips easily and you think it may be due to the restricted upper lip then stretching over time may give you enough movement to then seal your lips. In many cases, it is best to start with the least invasive intervention to reach your goals. I cannot clearly answer this for you as I have not done an assessment on you.

@@allsleepashley Yes this restriction is definitely preventing an effortless lip seal, I can't achieve a lip seal without overworking the mentalis muscle. Thank you, I will attempt stretching consistently and hopefully I will see some improvement!

@@allsleepashley thank you so much for this reply, i had no idea i could just stretch my frenulum over a period of time and possibly get it to start meeting my bottom lip! when i close my mouth, it feels the middle of my upper lip is what is the most restricted. when i manually pull it down, and then release, my lip shoots back up. this is so relieving to know i may actually be able to do this without getting it cut! although if it doesn't work i think i will. i really suspect this is a large reason why i cant close my mouth, even after braces when i had straight teeth. thanks so much!

Can i do this lip strech with having braces on my teeths? I am realizing that I have short lips and thays why I am not able to close my mouth...all this time I was thinking that its my protruding teeth and for that I got braces ....but still i can't close my lips .

  • @allsleepashley

Yes, you can do this stretch with braces on your teeth. The difficulty in closing your lips may be from a combination of protruding teeth and short lips. There is often more than one answer because the body is a complex system.

@@allsleepashley if protruding teeth is affecting lip seal, should you get braces/invisalign first?
