Mantis X10 and Laser Academy Together!

I've had several people ask me if you can use the Mantis X10 and Laser Academy at the same time, yes you can. Watch to see how it works running both of these great training systems at the same time!
Mantis Tech provided me with this X10 and Laser Academy at no cost to review.

    It would definitely be nice if one app could do both. Still impressive systems though.

    Thank you! I have both the Mantis X10 and the Laser Academy kit, but yours is the first video I could find that clearly explained how to use them together!

    I like how the x10 can use both live and dry fire practice. Saves money on ammo dry firing at home. Then, take it to the range, set it to live fire and can see how u do under actual recoil and correct any mistakes.

    Absolutely, I agree. Plus, people don’t always make the same mistakes when they dry fire. Putting it to the test on the range is a game changer.

    Thanks for posting. I got the Laser Academy first about a year ago and purchased the X10 about a month ago. I love them both and was wondering if you could use them together. Now I know. 👍

    In the video it sounds like there are dummy rounds ejecting...but you have the laser "round" in the chamber and no magazine loaded, right? What am I missing?

    Two questions, do you have to have the laser academy in order for the x10 to work? Second do you have to rack the slide each time to register a shot?

  • @AvaFlanell

    @AvaFlanell

    Жыл бұрын

    No, the X10 works on its own. This was just to demonstrate the results of both systems together. Yes, you do have to rack the slide when dry firing. The X10 also works with live fire however.

    So does the mantis x10 app on the phone act as a target or do I need the laser academy

  • @AvaFlanell

    @AvaFlanell

    Жыл бұрын

    The X10 does not need the laser or a target. It measures purely based on the motion of your shot so you can use any target. It also works with live fire.

  • @trumpeteer211
    @trumpeteer211 Жыл бұрын

    I’m gonna probably sell my laser academy. Can never get the damn thing read the targets 100% of the time. Plus, the mantisx sensor really detects what you’re doing wrong, if anything. I have the x3, which isn’t as nice as the x10, but it can be used for live and dry fire and handguns and rifles.

  • @AvaFlanell

    If you live fire at 7 yards, would you practice with the Mantis at 7 yards? Or would the distance be less since the target is smaller?

  • @AvaFlanell

    @AvaFlanell

    People get so caught up with distance. If you can shoot well, distance makes a small difference when you’re talking about plus or minus 10 yards.

    Through reviewing dozens of articles and videos, I've been researching that question for several days now. Here is my conclusion. The Mantisx measures muzzle movement during the trigger pull. It does not require a "target" and does not use a laser. It measures gun movement during the trigger pull. It does not score the accuracy with which a bullet would have been delivered (as in a dry fire scenario) to the target. The Mantis Laser Academy does use a laser with a target. At the moment of hammer impact on the laser cartridge it measures where on that target the laser was pointed. It does not measure gun movement during trigger pull. Each device measures something different which is why one might want to use both at the same time. Around 4:20 on this video, Ava says that "Mantis Laser Academy ... was showing my target, where my camera had to line up with the target, and it was scoring my accuracy... The x10 goes a little above and beyond that. It scores ... how you pull the trigger, the [muzzle] movement as you are pulling, during and after..." I think the impression she leave with the statement that the x10 goes above and beyond the laser academy is misleading. Perhaps for an expert marksman, one who can put a gun on the bulls-eye of a target 100% of the time, this is an accurate statement. But for a novice like me, one who needs help in both aiming and in trigger pull, these are two different things. The Mantisx can help you train on trigger pull, the Mantis Laser Academy can help you train on aiming.

    @@russrichards4195 Thank you for your research. You saved my time. As an engineer, I asked myself, how does X10 know where exactly I'm shooting to? This system only knows my gun movement trajectory in 3D space. Apparently, in attachment, they have inertia sensors like one used in smartphones. The rest is the software "magic". It does not see the target you are shooting at and can't tell you the accuracy score on the target. In my opinion, the whole marketing theme of X10 is misleading including this very video. Even Mantis official website doesn't tell you how exactly this system works. I can tell as an expert, there isn't much software development challenge to unite the X10 and Academy apps in one app. They just try to sell you both systems.

    Are there any tools that can be used so you don’t need to rack the gun after every shot?

    You can use the Dry Fire Mag with your apps. DFM allows you to shoot without racking the slide. They make one (tad expensive) that includes the Laser.
