Manta Rescue!

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

Such an amazing experience/rescue! Diving in the Philippines April 2014 with Manta Rays. One approached us with fishing line slicing right through her wing. Our guide spent several attempts to cut her free and finally removed the barnacle encrusted fishing line. She swam with us for over 10minutes until we were low on air & had to leave. We watched while on our safety stop as she continued to circle below us with another Manta ray. I am convinced she stayed with us for help as this was the longest & closest interaction during the week of diving. Kudos to our guide 'GL'! A truly amazing & emotional experience.

I am a marine biologist studying the mantas in Ticao. Wanted to tell you the same manta (now nicknamed Jane, if that's ok by you) came back today (25 october 2014), sstayed for a few hours, and looked healthy and happy :) Best wishes, Yotam

Hi Yotam, I am thrilled that you have seen her again & she appears to be in good health! I am stoked that you have nicknamed her Jane :) I guess GL will be OK with that as she is a female. I am also pleased that the video has assisted in drawing attention to you studies on Mantas in the area. Good luck with that. Hopefully we will return one day soon!

@@danielthames9628 I always imagine intelligent aliens exploring humans. They must think: How are they able to be so intelligent and mighty and so stupid and destroying at the same time? They know that what they do is destroying their own habitat and planet, but they rather protect a game called "money" than change their lifestyle... What the hell!?? I think as rare as warmhearted people are as more important it is to be warmhearted and being the difference. I found hope in the korean boygroup BTS and their fandom. These guys are so warmhearted and humble! And their fandom is ready to help everyone, who shares the same values of philantropy. And they help animals as well. I applaud the humans who help those in need of rescue . This old girl was probably in a lot of pain from the gash & didn't expect to be touched So her flinching the and hesitation and were both understandable. I am absolutely grateful that they didn't give up finally got the line and barnacles off of her !!! I believe that animals have a sixth sense about being willing to accept help.....Many years ago, my neighbors dog got all but skinned alive by a mail truck one summer bc she wasn't leashed or fenced. The owner Could not deal with it & didn't have a vet so l wrapped her up in a soft blanket and took her to my vet. She was given IV antibiotics and pain medication. Her owner did not want to deal with it and wanted to put her down & my vet said that was the owners right but with some nursing back to health she would be okay. Said that barring an infection there is nothing that time and daily care could not fix. Owner opted out & said "I'll just get another dog" 😶 So 4 days later I took her home & because I volunteered to take care of her the awesome vet did not charge us for her care. They gave us pads for her to rest on ( by bedtime every day, she'd end up bloody till her skin healed) gauze, saline, ointment & liquid vitamins. We set up a little "hospital room" 4 her under the dining room table & l hung sheets so she'd have privacy. She laid there for three weeks, only moving to go take bathroom breaks & eat. My 3 young kids wanted pet & cuddle her but obviously couldn't so they sang to her, read her books and picked flowers for her..... That sweet dog was in such terrible pain and while she whimpered a lot , every day she allowed me to clean her wounds, pull away dead skin with tweezers as per vet instructions and bandage her. Id been afraid she'd bite me but she never did. No snarling, no screeching (l would have) just sweet eyed looks and licks to my hand. Somehow, though we were virtual strangers she knew we'd just wanted her to be okay She fully recovered and Pepper stayed with us the rest of her days, and I'll never forget her amazing ability to trust 🧡🐕🧡

What a beautiful video. I did this with a seagull at lake Bracciano near Rome. She came close to us whilst sunbathing, like asking for help, had fishing line wrapped tightly around its wing and very tight around its little leg almost cutting into it...poor thing. Luckily i had an army knife with tiny scissors and cut all the line away, the leg being rather difficult. She was so relieved and stayed with us a while. So rewarding to help nature. 🇬🇧🇬🇧

WOW what an amazing experience. I was in Nuku Hiva in the South Pacific when i saw a load of Manta's in the water. We were warned not to go swimming there as the currents are extremely strong. However nothing was stopping me getting in with those Manta's. Before long I was surrounded by these great friendly creatures. It was an amazing feeling to be with them. They were just so friendly and before long I had an audience on the shoreline. Animals are just so graceful. Thanks for this amazing clip

Five years late, but for the newcomers there was a comment somewhere else on this video that another diver saw this Manta a few months later and was also social with them. If it died, it died of natural causes and not from that line.

That looks scary, especially seeing her stinger so close to that one guys leg. Yikes! Good thing she realized she was being helped. That one side sure looked like a deep slash into her wing though. I hope she healed okay. Ooops, just noticed this video is 2014. oh well, I hope she's gone on and lived a nice long life.
