Something I never touched on in the review, mainly because I did cover it in my last Manor lords video is the sheer immersion that you get from play the game. Things like raising an army of farmers, bakers, blacksmiths, berry pickers etc and marching in formation with them for miles to a battle. After the battle with bodies everywhere your men walk home and as they enter their province they disband and all walk back to their jobs in dribs and drabs, it looks awesome. Then you plant a tiny settlement, a tent and some basic rations and start a brand new colony, you defend it with your main army which could be miles away from the inevitable bandit attacks. It all comes together in such a cool way it’s impossible not to be impressed, I can’t wait for the full release, if the dev reads this please take your time :)

The city inventory goods aspect could be fixed by having your lord have his own inventory. Like you needing to compensate the merchants for their stock of weapons before having the weapons sent out to the other town.
@darken2417
10 күн бұрын
Ideally I'd like a more realistic setup where the lord's resources is split from the wider village resources. The lord getting his resources through contracts with his subjects or purchases. Ex: Choosing that the smiths give you gold or a portion of their weapons produced as their tax. The lord having to save up gold or stockpiling items like stone, or buying items from the village inventory in order to use these for "state" or personal projects like castles, walls, armies, and special buildings.
This video is extremely generous with the game, even considering it's Early Access. Was disappointed to find so much lacking in the game. There absolutely are game breaking bugs. This game is not entirely playable as is. It does show great promise but there are a lot of core mechanics that still need fleshing out and balancing. It's not just missing advanced features. For example, keeping track of what jobs are currently being worked and moving people to where you need them is a nightmare. You start with 5 families (each count as a worker-unit). But there are maybe 10 different buildings they could potentially be working in. And if there's nothing to do at a building, they just idle with no warning or indication. You spend most of the game searching for idle workers so you can move them to something else. But there's no screen to actually see who is working where. You just have to hold TAB and scan the buildings for the ones that have workers, deallocate there, and allocate them in another building. But you have to leave some unassigned so anything can be built. It's so frustrating. And it's not entirely clear if certain jobs actually need a worker. Like do I absolutely need a storehouse worker? When? Does the hitching post need a worker to guide the ox? Seems not because anyone can do it, apparently, but it's an option. Why? And farming seems totally broken. My second year my crops just seemed to evaporate after/during harvesting, leaving me set for a very difficult winter. Trade is way more confusing than this video lets on. Like some things need dedicated trade routes, but others don't? Why? What do horses do, why do I need them? When do I need them? How do they help trade? The Marketplace in the game is also very confusing. Like do families just not get stuff they need if it isn't in the stalls? Who exactly is responsible for stocking the stalls in the marketplace? Is it the producer or the storehouse worker? It's frustrating to technically have the resources but the households won't use them unless they make it to the marketplace. They won't go to the storehouse/granary. And the approval rating. That just seems to shift arbitrarily. It will say +4 for food diversity one month and then +1 another even though my food types are the same. I'll have a ton of firewood but then houses will complain about no fuel. It makes no sense. It has something to do with marketplace stalls, but I don't know how or when they are stocked. Do they have to be manned to function? There's no marketplace job.
One Man…7 Years. Can anyone remind me how many people and how much time it took for Ubisoft's Skull and Bones, and Activisions MW2, both of which felt like early access games when they released as full games?

8:20 I disagree, I'm very excited how the game handles the trading between settlements. They tried to go for authenticity in how medieval settlements would function, so while gifting could be done and maybe they'll find a way to implement it later, I love the idea that by default the villages have to actually trade between eachother on what they need, even if you're their Lord. Because it doesn't put you into an almighty God of the lands and puts you into more of a managing, ruling entity instead.

@WorthABuyreviews

The way the game is at the moment it makes little to no difference as it's easy. When the Ai map opponents arrive it will be a totally unbalanced situation if they keep the barter system, it's not a simple case of here is 1 x flour give me 1 x sword, it is way harder than that to get a deal going, it took me an hour or real time just to get a few weapons as my starter town had hardly any resources to trade that were of value. So all I did was buy a shit load from the trader as I had plenty of money from selling berries, it made the bartering system utterly pointless. Money is easy to get in this game so why spent hours trying to barter with neighbours that will take ages to get you the weapons you need when you can buy them quickly from the traders. I am sure when they test this with map based Ai lords they will realise the current system is insufficient and will tweak it.
@cgollimusic

@@WorthABuyreviews ah I see the problem. I feel like that might come down to balancing with prices then? They just need to make it more viable to trade between your villages as it is now, and make it more expensive to import from elsewhere.

Super pumped! Been a long few months waiting for it and im not gonna lie, i'm super jealous of all you content creators playing it early! Gaming since 79.
I thought it had more available , the game is great but it has 1/4th off the content in the current build but has now a solid foundation. Unfortunately i refunded it , there is barely anything to do after you are kinda done with city building a fight or two on a small map with bandits and a baron it will take another 2 - 3 years in the oven but in the meantime i will hold off untill then.
Im definitely picking this up over the weekend
High praise coming from Mack 👍
Love the video mack, been a long time viewer. remember your DAYZ days. hope all is well.
Just started playing it. It's a really good city builder with management options relating to trade and taxes, plus seasons and harvesting and number of families present in your settlement. You need to grow your settlement and then think about defending it plus claiming other regions, which is crucial because resources will exhaust in time. I would have liked more buildings and more resource options but for now it will suffice, given it's early access. I can't expect it to have the amount of content the Anno franchise boasts. Looking forward to updates and to the finished product. I think this game is unique in that it blends city building with army tactics

The thing you described at about 8 minutes, where you couldn't have one of your towns "rip off" another one, sounds like one side of a coin. The other side of that same coin has plagued Ostriv for years. In Ostriv, there is this whole mechanical system where the villagers get paid to do work and then buy stuff at the market as well as paying you rent...but they're such perfect little rational agents that they won't buy anything they don't actually need. So the solution to this amazing idea for a system is to set all the prices and all the wages as low as possible, so that as little money actually circulates in the settlement as possible. Then you just handle trade with other places (which you don't run in that game) in a central manner. It doesn't really make sense. Also, I really love to hear of a "genuinely early access" game (some games should really just call their first release 1.0 instead) coming out that's got a bunch of stuff implemented and a bunch of other stuff with a place actually carved out for it. What's already there in this sounds pretty solid but where it looks like this is going is just stunning.
Cant wait to play, but ill wait for release. Cheers mac x
It has not been ONE GUY for a while now. The last few years there was a team. And I hope the team grows. Because I'm not really down for Early Access any more these days.

I like the fact that battles are not the focus of this game.
I am so excited for tomorrow! This game will be amazing
Looks like a gem. Can't wait.
I hope you can also customize the look of your Lord at release.
Man, I really like your reviews, but I have to disagree with you on this one. I think you were far too charitable. This game should NOT be sold for 30$ right now. The amount of content in this is almost nothing, and all it has is the hope of being an interesting game. But is certainly not one now. 30$ for this is just crookery. And if i have to hear one more person say, "IT WAS MADE BY ONE GUY OVER 7 YEARS" I don't think he put a good amount of time into the game if that was the case. Banished was far more groundbreaking and fun, and a better city builder.
@yarnosh

And $30 is a "sale." It's insane how much slack we give indie/Early Access developers. If a regular publisher, not even AAA, put out something like this for $40 people would be ripping them to shreds. Yes, the graphics for this game are great but everything else is severely lacking.
It is worth, in a year or two though, not now.

I'll probably never play this game but it is a nice looking game that has a lot of depth for a solo/indie dev. I get the feeling this could be the Stardew Valley or Hallow Knight of battle/city builders.
Mack becoming Jeremy Clarkson lol
It's amazing what one man can do where massive companies seem to struggle. The bar was on the floor but this man leapt over the moon!
When this makes Slavic magic a millionaire overnight, don’t be surprised if it never gets finished. This is the problem with early access, lots of unfinished games out there. We should be entitled to maybe 50% refund if the game never gets finished. Maybe steam should enforce a 3 year early access window and if the game isn’t finished refund everyone 50%?
Why/how is being able to place multiple garrisons a bug? Surely the goal is to create many garrisons to raise an army, and the more soldiers you have the more resources they cost to maintain.
I understand it's a good game, yet the fact is that there are still many things missing or things that have to be fixed. When I want to play a game, I want to play one that's finished. I don't have time, or the motivation, to deal with unfinished games. That's why I stopped playing early access games altogether. I'm definitely going to visit this again in the future when it's fully released.
If this took 7 years. I hope future updates or ver.1.0 wont be 7 years
I'll be interested in you reviewing two games dude, Kena and Tales of Zau.
Does anyone know if you will be able to fight with your troops at some point? I'd love to be able to fight with my troops as well as backing out to strategy view
I like this and wouldn't have heard about it without this video.
I generally avoid early access. I made exceptions for Bannerlord II and Satisfactory. I'm about to make another exception. Looking forward to it! Woo.
Was very disappointed in this. If it was $20 then sure maybe worth a buy but its so barebones and buggy in current state. It makes me wonder if all these youtubers got a different version of the game than was released. I have no doubt if the developer sticks with it then it will be great one day but for $50 Canadian dollars this is definitely not worth a buy. Games like songs of syx are currently free (the demo is free and is the complete game just one version behind the most up to date) and provide far more content and updates than Manor Lords currently has. The game is vastly overhyped and I wish I had refunded the game after 2 hours before I locked in paying almost full price for a very early access title. Bit disappointed in Mac since he is my go-to guy for spending my hard earned dollars on games these days and I refuse to believe that he didn't notice the numerous issues with this game. It was a huge red flag when the developer refused to advertise the price before the game was available to buy.

Ya the price seems a bit steep, especially here in Canada (everything is expensive, plus add tax to the online purchase). Wow... Your words are word for word my exact thoughts. Gonna add one thing, though: good thing it didn't launch at 20 because I would of followed the hype and bought it. From what I've seen it IS really early early stages. Almost a showcase of what it will be. I might even buy it, but waaaay down the road.
Its a solid city builder for sure. It needs some work but it definitely is going in the direction of one of the best ever made.
So far, apart from the obviously incredible game development skills shown, this has been the easy part for the developer. Developing this amazing EA game in relative peace. Now when the game releases the hard part comes; filtering out all the constructive and non-constructive feedback and staying the course of where he is heading, even with all the money coming in. If he can do that, I believe this will be amazing and at least as impactful as Banished was 10 years ago, or Settlers 25+ years ago. I wish him all the best and wise decisions in the time coming ahead. He's got my money and support.
Thanks a lot Mack! Any pricing indication yet?
