I saw Manitas in the 70s on UK TV and have never forgotten the impression he made on me - his accuracy and musicality showed me what to look for in guitarists. That flowing, never-miss-a-note natural talent has guided me to the best guitarists in the world - Jeff Beck, Mark Knopfler, Gary Moore are the first 3 that come to mind although their genre is completely different!

My parents got two records of his in 1965, when I'd first started playing and expressed interest in flamenco. I saw him in SF in late '66, and it's still one of the most phenomenal guitar performances I've ever seen- and that included Hendrix, Clapton, Beck, John McLauglin, and lots more. the man is beyond brilliant. whew!

this man actually is the best guitar player in the world I think. his left hand is amazing, as he uses arpeggios like they're powerchords. but other than 'normal' guitar players, his right hand is also like, magically fast and accurate. He can play 3 different things with 5 fingers. and opposed to modern guitar solos which are great of course, this piece has a lot of melody and feeling in it, and not just some random notes played as fast as possible. legend this man

I don't care that purists object to his taking liberties with the traditional rhythms of the Flamenco compas. Manitas was a great artist and formed his unique musical personality. When you heard the sound of his guitar, you knew immediately who it was. When I lived in France, I saw him often on TV and he was a household name. My cousin one day was driving through southwestern France and had car trouble. His car stopped near some gypsy caravans. Out came Manitas de Plata and members of his family who actually helped my cousin get his car going. Fame and fortune didn't seem to affect him.

I once found a record la guitare d'or from CBS 1970. Never heard of him before. It blew my mind away. This Manitas de Plata (I don't know which element would aptly describe what his hands are doing, but it must be far beyond silver) he came from outer space, that's for sure. While his technique is dazzling there so much soul in his music, it just gives me the shivers. Manitas rules the universe!

Muchas gracias.

That TV announcer spoke the truth, without understanding the true import of his literal words. Yes, Manitas de Plata 'carried all his wealth on his hands'. Indeed, and he shared it all with us.

Maybe not Manitas' most meaningful and cohesive piece. Sounds like he joined together the most explosive parts of "Sangre flamenco", "Soleares rumbita" and "Guitarra de oro" to emphasize his technique. Still amazing, though. I saw him live on french tv when I was a kid in the early 70s and I immediately fell in love with his playing. Probably not flamenco *by the book*, but as loquibambia55 put it, this is pure gypsy fire. French gypsy, btw. Thumbs up!

It is in the breaking of the "rules" that great new doors are opened in expression and new directions in Art are founded. It has always been so it is the way progress is made. That when someone has the courage to blaze new directions and listens to the beat of his own drum and the voice of his own muse is where creativity really lives and thrives.
