I will continually come back to this song. The musicianship, the lyrics, the vibe - it all creates a magical and comforting feeling that you cannot shake off.
Something about his voice is incredible… absolutely effortless, doesn’t try too hard and they don’t have the same philosophy that a lot of other bands do of “the higher and louder, the better” i love you guys

I agree. There's nothing wrong with "leaning in" to enjoy the ambience of a group.

Same can be said about his mandolin playing. Not too flashy, but fits his voice just right.

It's absolutely compelling. Plaintive and makes you really want to listen to every word. His songs are amazing too. Love everything about them

I agree with all of this. When I first heard the Dylan cover Spanish boots it was Andrew's voice and Emily's fiddle solo. Btw, when it comes to a heavy moment, like in wildfire, andrew summons something from deep within, and it's healing.
Wow.. Ended up in this place by misstake.. But sometimes life gives you nuggets of pure joy like listening to this.. Soo smooth and warm ( no better way to describe the musical perfectioni just listened to).
This is still my favorite live version of any song I’ve ever heard. God bless WatchHouse AKA Mandolin Orange ♥️😘
"Freedom was a simple word so reverent and true A long time ago, it meant the right to choose Who you love and how to live, now it's so misused Twisted by the politics of men in gospel shoes" Sadly, so relevant these days

So true are your words and so sad..
There's something very special about the music these two people make. Love listening to you.
the amount of musicianship in this video is mind-boggling! And they make it look so effortless.
I am old enough to die but will hang on until I see Mandolin Orange live
I literally just found this group, by the grace of God- because man did I need this. I love their sound.
I arrived here by mistake but I think this is the best folk & country music I've heard in years.
Now...this is MIGHTY FINE! Thanks, Mandolin Orange!

Exquisite lyrics and so in touch with our lives. Twisted indeed....
This song is so beautiful it brings a tear to my eye, what an ensemble of talented musicians. Keepin’ our grassroots music alive! A mighty fine mission :)
don't even know how to say how good these guys are......let's see them on the awards show
What a way to start a Sunday morning...just discovered these two...pure magic! Musically - on point! Folk, Bluegrass with a social message that is relevant...fantastic harmonies...sign me up Mandolin Orange!
Of all the many wonderful songs, that's the one that brought MO into my life. God bless Gospel Shoes!
Amazing pair. Their gold shines deep from within.
What a great discovery when we were at this Pickathon and these folks began to play and sing. They are the best and I feel so lucky to have been there

This song is the most beautiful song I have ever heard
Greaaaaaat music, great musicians, this is what I needed during these hard time. Bless you all and thank you all to have enriched my life with your superb sound
Play it with C positions capo 4 . Josh harmony is very understated. OUTSTANDING
Their harmony never ceases to amaze me.
I'm blown away at how far technology has come that such warmth can come through an outside recording. The fiddle...
killer fiddle playing
Profound lyrics exquisitely played and sung
OK, that does it, you are now my favorite musicians!

One trivially simple transition to make, no?
3:05 is great when the camera guy gets sucked in and starts groovin with the band
Wow and wow and just to make sure I express myself clearly, wow! :-)
The outtro was exquisite. Just perfect. Would have loved to have been there for that
"Tradin' this world over, for a pair of Gospel Shoes!"
This is amazing! They are all good but the mandolin playing and his ”antihero” voice is just what I needed
Wow. Great song, great lyrics. Sounded like it must be an old classic that had passed me by so went off looking to see who wrote the original. And guess what? THIS is the original. Great songwriting perfectly delivered. A joy.

Narrow minded of you there George.
Josh Oliver plays the hell out of that Taylor C
Some set their heads to swimming, nothing to lose Drift about their good times, slivers in their boots Some walk the straight and narrow, only passing through Trading this world over for a pair of gospel shoes Gospel shoes are laced with shackles and chains Fitted for the poor runners of the race Now every hand is folded shape of a gun Target's ever changing but the war it rages on So the armies march onward for the mother and the son As this world of screaming color is bleached in the blood Freedom was a simple word so reverent and true A long time ago, it meant the right to choose Who you love and how to live, now it's so misused Twisted by the politics of men in gospel shoes So the armies march onward for the mother and the son As this world of screaming color is bleached in the blood Our mother she is crying, her broken heart is blue 'Cause we're too busy dying to love this life we lose She's growing weary of the lying She's tired of all this fighting in the name of gospel shoes

Love this couple. Lesson for years. Tire grass.
Delightful - many thanks - a beautifully uplifting performance.
That's wonderful music and a beautiful song I don't like country music but I do love gospel
Je vous écoute tous les jours... in Belgium :-)

Y’all speak to my heart.
You know what’s crazy to me is how people give videos the thumbs down. Like why even hit it? Not to mention that this song was executed flawlessly.
It doesn't get much better than this !!! ( maybe " The Train Song " )
Great stuff here, great to see all these great new bluegrass bands that have sprung up in the last 20 years and brought the genre back to life.

Chance meeting backstage this summer confirmed that up-close in person Emily's more beautiful than at a distance, AND that she's simply charming. One delightful lady, all around. Most pleased to have had a hand in prompting the band's visit to us Yankees. The world needs more like Emily, and Andrew.
From Denmark 🌹🌹🌹🌹Love your music

Awesome ! Great musicianship , thank you for sharing !😊👍👍 Who is the awesome bass player ? Cheers !
YT thought I might like this. Ah, YT, you know me so well.
Where can I buy this live version? It's got magic and I like it much more than the one recorded on the studio. Thanks
Andrew Marlin is a gifted songwriter with an ear for wonderful melody and lyrics. I hear the challenge of race in these lyrics . . . Listen to The Wolves and know that "she" is the Statue of Liberty. Emily and Andrew are stunning . . . this tune in particular is too timely to ignore . . .
The tone out of that 6 string capoed up to play in E? fabulous - too bad the player is cut off - wish there was better camera work to honor each musician.
