Mandolin Orange - “Echo”
Музыка
Andrew and Emily are the duo behind Yep Roc Records’ own Mandolin Orange. Given the chance to film these talented artists in front of the Gyre structure in the North Carolina Museum of Art’s sculpture garden, it creates a scenario where we are capturing art created by artists in front of one of the Triangle’s most distinguishable outdoor art exhibits. If that isn’t meta, then maybe three songs and a cover with beautiful harmonies, acoustic guitar, and mandolin from the duo will convince you otherwise.
Consider this performance a warm-up for the NCMA’s Summer Concert Series with Mandolin Orange on Saturday July 22nd.
Sit back, grab a cold beverage of your choice and enjoy Mandolin Orange performing their songs in the July summer heat, “Big Men In The Sky”, “Echo”, and ”Wildfire”, along with a lovely cover of “Silver Dagger”.

Andrew is one of the finest lyricists out there. So much depth. And the music and harmonies...well, that just butters my biscuits!

All with only two instruments and two beautiful voices, and a wonderful string of poetry 🤍
The scene where you break off into the solo and the doves fly to sit and look down is quite lovely! Beautiful song!
I literally love every single one of there songs. I play their music while boating and or working outside and their outdoor vibes are incredible
This is my favorite song of theirs.. I love all their music very much.. but this one is special

Wish I could like this more than once...
These two have gifts to give and it is Christmas everyday hearing them. Mandolin Orange is a kick ass, genuine, talented, feel it in your soul, gift from God music.
Well I try to close my eyes Clear my mind Just listen to the wildflowers grow Such whispers on the breeze Don't come easy now Over all this noise Spent my youth among the pines They used to sing a tune so fine And the wind moved like an echo Carrying their voices And I saw it in a dream Monuments to trees As the air we breathe turned our lungs to dust And the redwoods so tall And all their awe Began to rust With no bend and sway at all That ancient dance is lost And the wind moved like an echo With a sigh in every gust Well some day I hope to find That land of honey wine Where the coffee grows on the white oak trees And those sugar coated mountains In the spring begin to melt into Sweetest streams Where each night the starlight and the sea Together form eternity And the wind moves like an echo As the world drops off to sleep
Songs, arrangements and voices all so good and well built. You’ve a long way of success ahead.
I wish there more than a thumbs up for this performance. Beautiful
They are so good, more and more doves gathered around to listen to them!

Even the birds came to listen!
Everything about them ' so balanced - may they, their music and any children, be forever so.

Brilliant - so soothing to listen to, and their sounds keep the attention going and the feelings echoing inside.
been playing their music all day... renovating an old house and its just happy good mood music.. love these two... perfect harmony and such good picking..
Amazing quality of sound for an outdoor performance, not to mention the quality of the music.
I absolutely love this song. What beautiful tunes & melodies Mandolin Orange makes.
Loved it. It took me back to my childhood. Thank you.
My father shared this duo with me. I absolutely love them now
Great band, music and lyrics, depth and emotion, I would love to see them live

And the wind moved like an echo with a sigh in every gust!!!
Fills my soul every damm time! Thank you
So very beautiful...soothes my heart and mind tonight.
Love the runner zipping through at 1:50, but even the bird chillin' throughout...😂❤
Amazing! I could listed to this over an over. Had to laugh at the guy jogging by in the background. :)
touches a lonely heart........thanks guys
Those birds on the arch behind them are watching the concert. At one point one of them got so excited it went into a spin move as part of its dance. Make that twice he did a triple spin....
This song slaps. So good.
I love the guy jogging through at 1:49. Classic mandolin segue. :)
The last few years Ive noticed Emily softening so much from where she was at the time of this video. I like it☮️
Love these two! Thanks for sharing this beautiful song!
Love them!
This song makes me think of life. As a kid, things seem beautiful and you hear the breeze in the trees like a song. But as you age, everything gets mixed up in the “noise” of life. In their vision, all the trees are cut down and metal monuments erected where trees once were. You can’t hear the music and flow of nature and the world is falling apart. They dream of a life instead where everything is beautiful and plentiful and you can hear the wind in the trees again.
Giant fried onion rings. I have always loved mandolin. Just noticed the effort the photographer took to block out the runner. Good job. Watched Emily smile and then Andrew nails his solo and gives it a smile. The bands new name is Watch House I think. I get it. One of the bands that has put music in my head for five or more days at a time.
Hope you find that "land of honey wine." Sweet song, thanks.
I love how they filmed a dude running in the background. haha. This is at the NCMA, I've been there many times. So many people go there to take pictures like for proms and weddings and it's very hard to take photos without capturing someone in the background! They did good to just get only one dude running.
Incredible.❤
Beautiful!

what kind of external mic do they use for the mandolin?

Both guitar and mandolin are mic'd with a Peluso CEMC6 SDC. The main mic is an Audio Technica 4050. It is picking up a majority of the sound.
So were these two part of Watchhouse before they became Mandolin Orange

Surprising to me there'd be someone watching, enjoying and commenting on this video without any idea what that "mini guitar" thing is that Andrew is playing. Mandolin is tuned like an Orchestral instrument (violin, viola, cello, etc) G, D, A, E. It has 4 courses of two strings. So two strings close together, one big and one small, but both tuned to a G. Then another pair (course) of strings, again one big and one small but both tuned to D... The idea is your finger will press both strings into the fret - so when you pluck that "note" you're actually getting two notes, one octave apart. Adds richness and depth to the tone.
