Mandala painting tutorial | Trying out POSCA pens for small details | Gold Glitterific Fine!

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

I really wanted to see if I could incorporate the paint pens into my mandalas. I have so many mixed feelings about it. First, let's discuss the elephant in the video, LOL. I'm a total NEWB at paint pens! I wonder if more experience will have me warming up to the idea of using them in my mandalas. I remember hating my fine line paint brush too! I think sometimes when we are new at things we just decide we don't like them, lol! Silly eh? I'll keep trying and see. For now it just feels like I'm cheating. But then I think... is it any different than using a dotting tool? I mean that's not painting either is it? LOL... I think this debate will continue in my head for some time. A painting friend did tell me that it's totally painting because it says paint right there on the pen! LOL, I like that justification! I'm totally going to admit that I love love love the idea of making these tiny dots with them and I just know that will stick for me! That was totally cool... no back and forth to the paint tray! Tell me what you think about all this mess! I'll keep practicing and if I get better at it I'll post another video with what I've learned! If you have any cool pen tips or tricks that'll help me out, post them in the comments. I already know that I need to let the paint dry more! ugh the patience, hahahahaha!
The glitter was really pretty but almost too thick to work with! You can bet if I find the holographic I will be using it ALL THE TIME!
And lets be real... I'm going to find it, lol lol lol!
Wednesday I think I'm going to do a quick Bahama Blue and Black mandala so don't miss that! I haven't made it yet but I'm on it as soon as this video uploads. Next Sunday I'm going to let you guys in on my color changing paint that you got a glimpse of in this video. You do not want to miss that video! The mandala is BEAUTIFUL and I haven't even put resin on it yet. I know it's going to be a channel fav! So, until then... rock on you rockin' rock stars!

I love my Posca .7 pens! Last week, I bought a set and they are wonderful! I have trouble outlining with a fine brush and these make it so much easier! With pump style paint markers, I usually get a blob of paint, but not so with these. I did not think of dotting with them, you have given me something new to try!

Awesome!! The .7 made the cutest dots. I really liked that!!! These seem to be the best paint pens but I have little experience. I just ordered a whole set of the .7…. Can’t wait to see what I can dot… I mean do 😂😂

I’m not sold on the pens either. I do like using them to sign the back sometimes. I also have fun with the kindness rocks with them.

That's so pretty, Jadel! I have just discovered that same glitter paint and you're right- it's very thick and sometimes difficult to manage. I actually thinned some with a pouring medium to thin it out a bit. I like how it looks, though. Very sparkly! I bought my first posca paint pens just a few weeks ago. I only use the 0.7 mm to sign the backs. Like you I'd rather use a brush to create the fun stuff!

Dawn that’s a great idea on thinning it… even if you needed a 2nd coat. I bought this gold pen out of writing frustration, lol!! It does make that easier but still not quite good enough. Wish I could write even smaller.

I don't have a problem using the paint pens for certain aspects of my rock painting. I feel I get better control if I'm using them for outlining. I use the gold pens all the time. Sometimes I use the black one for clean-up on my black base-coated rocks. You should just use what you feel most comfortable with. If you feel like practicing with them, that's great but don't feel you have to force yourself to. As has been said...You do you...because what you do is always wonderful!! ❤️

You’re so right Kathy!!! I guess I did feel a bit forced and really there’s no reason. I just thought it would help me. I really did use to feel the same way over a paint brush…. I just need to figure out where these pens are most useful for ME. You’re the bomb ♥️

That’s beautiful love the new glitter tooo also loving the colour shift paint. As for the pens … I have them it’s what I started with then went on to paint.. so I sort of flit from one to the other. But Ja Del once again a beautiful stunning piece of art ❤️

Thanks Ellen! I ordered a whole set of these ultra fine and got medium tip…. So now I’ve ordered a set of ultra fine again and waiting on them. I made a kindness rock using the bigger ones and it turned out cute. I think I just need more patience with drying times. I think I’m the worst 🤣

I love this! I’m not great at dotting yet but love watching your videos. I also love paint pens! I figure they are kindness rocks so as long as you’re spreading kindness it should matter what you use. I use paint, sponges, paint pens, watercolor pencils, carbon paper, etc. Anything to spread kindness ❤️ -Megan

I think it turned out gorgeous ❤️. I totally agree with you, that anytime you’re learning to incorporate something new, it takes time playing with it to find your comfort zone. For signing my rocks, I bought the black, white, gold and silver pack Pasco 0.7, but have never considered trying them in my design…..now you have me thinking 🤔 oh man…..I’m not sure it was a good idea planting this idea in my little head🤣🤣. There’s so much I want to do that I haven’t been able to get to and now another to add to the list😵‍💫😂😂. I told my husband, I’m going to take a week off from work to do nothing but paint cuz most of the time I have available to paint is used painting for others (which I ABSOLUTELY love) but I want time to play with different designs and styles too😃. I think you are going to create many amazing designs with these pens and I can’t wait to see them!! Btw, I never would have thought to dot with them….bonus! Thanks for another fantastic Sunday video….oh, and yes, like others agree, paint pens are just another tool used in creating beauty, just like glitter and gems❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

I’m pretty sure the rest will reside in my kindness rocks. Thank you for all the encouragement. I always look forward to your comments.

I LOVE this design. It's gorgeous!! You are very inspiring. I've created a few of my own designs lately and find it's not as daunting as I though it would be. I've used the Posca Gold pen for similar kind of work, but I have ended up putting a second coat on with a fine paint brush because I don't that much care for the shade of the gold paint in the pen. I find it dull compared to the Golden Irridescent paint that I love. I also don't think the Posca "fine" tip is fine enough.

I like the fine point, paint pen but the verdicts out on the Posca Pens, especially the black. The brush seems more controllable, more finess when using it. I liken the bigger paint tips to like using the old original texta colors. Thick, chunky and heavy. Maybe they just need practice using them.

I just never fell in love with the paint pens. I wonder if I wasn’t patient or something. I can see the marks and it looks like a marker did the job. Maybe 2nd costs are needed? I don’t know? I kinda gave up, lol. I found my fine lining brush and never looked back. I do sometimes use g fine tip ones to sign my work and I use the large ones for fun kindness rocks.
