I know right. Barthez was one of the best keepers in my world, but just because of 1 crap season and those mistakes against Arsenal at Highbury, people think hes a liability. Kids nowadays dont know shit about Barthez. Great keeper.
Barthez may have been a good goalkeeper for France but he was well dodgy for United. We should have got VDS straight after schmeichel. We would have won more

Dodgy? After just 1 season or that game against Arsenal? Way to generalize. He was a great keeper. Saved our asses. VdS was one lucky keeper with Rio and Nemanja at their best in front of him.

@@bryanleeyf87Barthez was always a dodgy keeper. Hed get beat from any where. It's no coincidence that we became more solid when VDS joined us....Also there isn't anyone in the team from Barthez time who rated him highly. When it came to the best GK in Man Utds premier league period it was always a debate between the contrasting styles of VDS and Schmeichel. No one would mention the midget frenchie. Hes part of the reason we were crap in Europe in that period. Always let in the weakest goals. If you think he was only bad against arsenal then you honestly dont know what your talking about. There's a highlight reel of his calamities....and btw Sir Alex wanted VDS to replace Schmeichel back in 2000 but he ended up joining Juventus.
Kids today who cry about Onana, don't know how bad Barthez was for us. 😂😂😂
if it wasn't for the away goals Manchester United would have been in the final. This united side would have given a tough time to real madrid

Three times to my knowledge, against Monaco in 97/98, this one, and Porto in 03/04. Hated this stupid away goals rule too.

They should beaten leverkusen out of sight in the return leg and not bringing Yorke was a big mistake if anyone could get you a goal it was him

That was the old format back then, starting from 1999-2000 and the last one at 2002-2003 before they switched to one group stage straight to knock out.

Yeap, there were days when two group stages played in the UCL, then Play off Round started from Quarter Finals instead of 1/8

Barthez his prime was considered one of the best keepers . In this videos he is bad for sure but I remember him he wasn’t always like this

@@Wrestling628 he didn't have a prime in his career he was always up and down His career in man utd was shit he literally cost us the champions league against real Madrid he conceded 3 goals from r9 in old Trafford We was better than real Madrid if van der sar was our goalkeeper in that time we would won the champions league easy
