Manchester Minds - Promoting teaching leadership and excellence at every level

Our campaign, Manchester Minds, showcases the people making a difference to our teaching and helping students to realise their full potential.
Professor David Schultz has always been captivated by the intricate interplay of the atmosphere, the ocean, the land, rocks, and vegetation in shaping climate dynamics. This profound curiosity and relentless pursuit of understanding the mechanisms of the natural world ultimately led him to become an earth scientist.
Giving students hands-on ways of dealing with weather climate data is important to David. He developed ManUniCast, a tool to help students see how weather and air quality forecasting models work and what the output of those models look like.
Build Your Own Earth was another tool developed by David to help students get their hands on the output of climate models and see the various ways that changes in topography, chemical composition of the atmosphere or rotation rate of the Earth affect the Earth's climate.
His dedication to education and mentorship has not gone unnoticed. He has been honoured with the School and Faculty Teaching Awards on ten occasions, the University Teaching Excellence Award three times, and the Student Union's esteemed Outstanding Research Supervision award.
In 2023, Professor Schultz received the prestigious inaugural Royal Meteorological Society Education Award, an accolade that stands as a testament to his enduring commitment to teaching excellence.
