Manchester City 4 - Real Madrid 0 Tactical Analysis | One of The Best Performances Ever
Спорт
Manchester City had one of the great performances for a football team that I've ever seen in their 4-0 destruction of Real Madrid in the second leg of their champions league clash. These are the tactics that helped Manchester City and Pep Guardiola come out with a commanding victory.

Jack Grealish is perfect for city's system for retaining possesion in the final third

I know doku brings pace on the wings but grealish shouldve been allowed to start vs chelsea last Sunday. They clearly lacked control in the left. I just realised how jack controlled tempo in the final third he was more onto pick spaces and find players. Doku is take t and quick but against good team like chelsea pep needed the ball controlled gameplay from Jack.
The first half of this match reminded me a lot of the Barcelona vs Madrid game back in 2010 where Barca thrashed them 5-0. That first half by City was just something else. Like I have constantly said for years now, Pep is the GOAT of managers. Tactically, the man is light years above the rest. Present and future managers will study Pep's work and use it as a blueprint. Football will remember Pep fondly. He's undeniably the GOAT.

Completely agree from a tactical perspective. I have a big spot in my heart for guys like Sir alex who were incredible man managers, but Pep is easily up there at the top.

@everything has an ending True but their defense is debatable, I'd rather choose the man city defense as in the eithad they are literaly a wall. So defense ie man city, midfield obvious, barcelona, and of course attack, messi.
John Stones is turning into a great defensive midfielder and no one is talking about it. He is confident in possession in the middle of the pitch with the upside of already being a great defender. He and Rodri controlled the whole game in the midfield. Crazy performance from everyone but especially those 2

@@drdassler what are you talking about? He only started playing this way a couple of months ago? First it was cancelo, that wasnt working, then tried Walker who wasnt great going forward and Rico Lewis as well. Then Pep realized he should use John as the double pivot and he has been playing insane. Everyone talks about Rodri (because he has been amazing again this season) but no one is talking about Stones performance on wedsnesday. Watch any of the post match analysis from CBS/ESPN/SKY whatever you want, you wont find much about Stones even though he was almost as good as Rodri was

he rarely gives the ball away, plays the game so casually, at walking pace, barely has to exert himself.

IF city can go all out at 1st Half like they did to RM it is obviously Game over. The risk factor is the pressing the whole 45min without a break is too much for any players. Which can cause fatigue and look at Kevin and others around 50-60mins they were so tired but kept composure. In the end it was this best Football. That 45min.

Inter will prolly press like crazy in the final. They make 5 substitutions every game anyway. Players will work their socks off until minute 55-65 and then 5 new ones come on.

This game was a repeat of the Barcelona vs Man United final in 2010 when a team dependent on individual talent (Man United) faced a well drilled Guardiola team. Real relied too much on talent not on tactical drilling
Ancelotti is going to need to watch this breakdown if he wants to stand any chance against Man City. I bet he has PTSD just thinking about this game

I was frustrated that Ancelotti did not allow CAMAVINGA TO JUST play his natural position and put either Alaba or Rudiger to guard Bernardo. To put such a skilled player on the ball (Bernardo) against someone who is not playing their natural position is just weird to me.

@@akhsdenlew1861 Nah, Pep's Barcelona was superior but since then, he never won another Champion League with Bayern or Man City although the 2 clubs are top tier. It is very difficult to assemble a team that can execute Pep's tactics. Other managers are able to win Champion League with a much modest team. This Man City is a billions dollar team so I am not surprised if this team wins everything under Pep, Carlo Acelotti, Enrique, Tuchel ...
Looking at the leg 1 video, I see that Modric, Kross, Caravanga not dropping down to escape the traps. Is that another reason why their tactic wasn't effective?
@SpreadSheetSoccer

Good shout. They did try similar things in this match but City's press was so high that they couldn't even get possession with time in their own defensive line. Part of the reason why Madrid was so flustered in the first half!

If Real Madrid with its dynamic players like Rodrygo, Vini, Benzema, Modric and Kroos could not counter Man City, I honestly wonder why people think Inter will be successful with it, given the lack of dynamism in their players. City wraps this up with 30 minutes to go, watch the space.

Inter doesn't have speedy winger, and most of their key players is in their 30s. lets see what they can do.
honestly citys high press could be destroyed if the attackers move into midfield in left a lot of space behind .just don't understand why teams don't do that
The 'overthinking' is such a lazy point

It is, but sometimes it’s easy to question the decisions and changes pep makes to his teams in finals even though he makes them in every other match
With or without Financial Fair Play by Man City?
You need to call it "football" if you want to be taken seriously. I mean no offence and you call it whatever you want BUT.... many Europeans won't value your views if you get the name wrong. Jus sayin.

Madrid missed a trick by not switching flanks
City 4 - inter 0 Final score
I am pretty sure city and pep are not "sleeping" on their last match before their 1st CL trophy. But, having said that... you have to take into consideration that Inter hasn't faced a team like THIS city as well. City will have to find the 1st goal to open up inter and then score more goals. if inter somehow manages to score the 1st goal things will become really complicated as i expect all their players, including lautaro to wear Goalkeeper gloves and stay in the area for defence and goalkeeping with all 11.
@SpreadSheetSoccer
Жыл бұрын
I agree. Inter aren't a team like Bayern or Real Madrid, so it's possible they could underestimate them. You make some good points, it just depends who scores first and how the match plays out

I don't think city defended 4-4-2 🤔

It didn't look like it because of how high the players were pressing, but if you look in the second half you can see the 4-4-2 as it's more obvious
