Man's Radical Fallenness: Chosen By God with R.C. Sproul

How far did man fall in the Garden? How has sin penetrated into our souls? What did Jesus teach about man's fallenness? While we may question some of the greatest teachers in the History of the Church about this topic, we must always look to the Lord Himself for truth as found in Scripture. In this message entitled "Man's Radical Fallenness," Dr. Sproul considers Jesus' own words regarding man's ability or lack thereof to achieve salvation.
This is the 4th in a series of messages by Dr. Sproul on God's salvation. See other videos in the series: • Chosen By God - R.C. S...

chjaka I’ve worked on a sheep farm. The farmer when he calls his sheep says “here here here” and they come. So he’s making it the opposite of what it plainly says yet you delight in your conceit thinking yourself better than Christ who plainly says “hear my voice” not “drag you with a rope” I don’t need to turn to any other verse to explain what draw means in this context because it tells me right there in that verse what it means! You say turn to the meaning turn to the meaning then turn away from the meaning provided to you by Jesus. You have taken the meaning he himself provides and provided another. Might be okay with some other passages but definitely NOT in this one. Plainly says the sheep are the ones that here and come o. THEIR OWN VOILITION. Having heard. Granted they must be those given by the father but that is the preface, not the conclusion. The conclusion is those who are given come on their own violation for they ha e heard . It’s horse then cart not cart then horse

@@madcow9421 Perhaps you weren't listening with open ears to the entire message? Sproul clearly mentioned the different meanings of the word draw. The same Greek word is used for drag. After all on the road to Damascus was Saul just drawn to Christ, No he was arrested by Christ and blinded. He was left with no other option but to see the truth spiritually by being blinded physically by the radiant brilliance of Christ. Christ compelled him/arrested him. He didn't draw him like you do with water.

@madcow9421 The response to your ridiculous comment is simple. When Christ speaks of sheep, he is referring to HIS sheep. That means people who have already been born again. Let's use your same apology. What happens when you try and move a sheep that doesn't belong to you? How do you move it? By DRAGGING. Maybe try studying a bit more before you make such ignorant comments.

It's so cool how at some point Jesus said that only through him you can come to The Father, and here He said that the Father chooses or draws someone for Jesus, how amazing is that because it just shows how connected they are, that God is at the same time The Father, The Son Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit. God Bless!

Yup! Another reason for Calvinsm in the Trinity works in union in salvation. The father saves a people for Himself before the foundation of the earth, Jesus dies for them, and the Holy Spirit rejuvenates them and makes them born again.

Sheep Dog No. It’s more like drawing a fox out of its den by setting bait by the hole. It’s done in a persuasive manner. The Gospel is how Jesus draws all men to Himself.... 2Cor 5: 18 And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation; 19 To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation. 20 ¶ Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God. Paul tried to persuade people..... 1Cor 9: 20 And unto the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might gain the Jews; to them that are under the law, as under the law, that I might gain them that are under the law; 21 To them that are without law, as without law, (being not without law to God, but under the law to Christ,) that I might gain them that are without law. 22 To the weak became I as weak, that I might gain the weak: I am made all things to all men, that I might by all means save some. Why would Paul use different methods to persuade different people if your understanding of God drawing is correct? Acts 28: 23 ¶ And when they had appointed him a day, there came many to him into his lodging; to whom he expounded and testified the kingdom of God, persuading them concerning Jesus, both out of the law of Moses, and out of the prophets, from morning till evening. Maybe Paul wasn’t aware of “Calvinism”?

  • @evanu6579

    @evanu6579

    6 жыл бұрын

Sheep Dog Why did he think he could persuade people? In Calvinism, elect are elect and will be saved regardless of methods. No need to persuade them. Non-elect cannot be persuaded. Why wouldn’t Paul just preach the Gospel and let the chips fall where they may? Do you believe regeneration precedes faith?

  • @evanu6579

    @evanu6579

Sheep Dog Swinging a hammer would be like preaching the Gospel. You shouldn’t have to use other persuasive measures to get the nail in the board. Convincing should be unnecessary. If the bible clearly stated that regeneration occurs after faith, would you feel the need to reconsider your position?

Sheep Dog Jhn 7:38 He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. 39 (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.) All that believed would receive the Spirit after Jesus’ resurrection and ascension.... Jhn 14: 17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. Jhn 15: 26 ¶ But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me: Jhn 16: 7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you. The Holy Spirit is first given here.... Jhn 20: 22 And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost: So they didn’t receive the Holy Spirit until after the resurrection as Jesus stated in John 7. That’s well after the disciples believed, and many others as well...... Jhn 2: 23 ¶ Now when he was in Jerusalem at the passover, in the feast day, many believed in his name, when they saw the miracles which he did. Luk 7: 50 ¶ And he said to the woman, Thy faith hath saved thee; go in peace. Even after the resurrection, faith still preceded regeneration..... Eph 1: 13 ¶ In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, Acts 5:32 And we are his witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them that obey him. Just to clarify what regeneration is. It is the indwelling of the Holy Spirit.... Rom 8: 9 ¶ But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his. 10 And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. 11 But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you. The disciples weren’t given life before the resurrection of Jesus.... Jhn 14: 19 ¶ Yet a little while, and the world seeth me no more; but ye see me: because I live, ye shall live also. Peter was not yet converted.... Luk 22: 32 But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren. (Matt 18: 3 And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.) Let me know your thoughts.

chjaka Yeah it’s pretty sad. The more you talk with them and point out the context of their proof texts, the more you see how this is a cult like all the others. They don’t believe based upon what the bible says, but the rhetoric that their leaders brainwash them with. God-centred vs man-centred God sovereignty vs man sovereignty They get them by making them think they’re elevating God and making man out to be more wicked, when in fact it’s taking the responsibility off of man and placing it on God. They make man out to be victims rather than the criminals that they really are.

John 17:1-2 1 These words spake Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son also glorify thee: 2 As thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him. The elect were given to Christ Jesus before the world began, they will come to trust in Christ alone for the salvation of their soul. 2 Timothy 1:8-9 Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God;9 Who hath saved us, and called with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began.

@chjaka " So, what you are saying is that you hating Calvinism does not necessitate that you hate the people that believe it. Gotcha." quoted from above where I did own up to that already. I am sorry and I understand the distinction. If you cannot respect me, then that is a personal maturity problem that you need to remedy, because I have done nothing wrong aside from what I have already mentioned. "Satanic Doctrine" , What an absolutely foolish statement. It is ridiculous opinion to have, especially since so many solid Christian teachers and theologians have been Calvinist. How exactly do you square with accusing Spurgeon, Knox, Luther, Calvin, Zwingly, Beza, MacArthur, Piper, Sproul, Lawson,, Whitefield, Bavnick, Schaff, Ferguson, Hodge, Turrentin, and hundreds perhaps thousands of other guys who lived God glorifying lives as Christ-loving Calvinists. To call it "Demonic" is absolutely reprehensible not only to me, but to Christ himself. I pray you take off your anti-Calvinist glasses and study the doctrines of grace with an objective attitude. I have nothing to repent of brother, but I hope you come to an understanding of the truth. No luck needed, and I will surely seek the Lord.

Ecclesiastes 3:1 says that "There is a time and place for everything under the sun..." then it continues with a number of examples (like a time to be born and a time to die) but obviously not every single example was given due to space constraints. I fully believe that a time to receive Christ could be included in that. It appears to me that those that you are sharing the gospel with are either never going to receive Christ or are not at this particular time going to do it. Just keep on keeping on and remember Matthew 7:14 "Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to [eterenal] life, and there are few who find it."

An implication from R C Sproul's exposition: the fall of man into sin and depravity is 100% total and infinitely radical. The effect of his redemption by God is also just as radical and the resulting change in his character and life will be just as radical over time through the process of sanctification. Am I correct in this conclusion?

The necessary condition is being human, and having the ability to reason. In other words all men. Romans 1:20. Sproul also gives a good illustration of how the word "can" can come to have two different subtle meanings, but then seems to forget all about that when going on about the translation of the word "drawn".

He didn’t say “can” has two meanings, but that it has come to be used to mean two different things. “Can” does not refer to permission, yet that’s how it’s often used today. It speaks to capability. No man is capable of coming to the Son unless the Father draws him. What are the different meanings of “drawn” that you could use here. Drawn as in “pulled towards” or drawn as in “sketched with a writing utensil?” Both would speak to it being up to the Father to pull or to sketch (create) one as a believer or not.

I love RC and his in depth study of God's Word but I did some research here and the word "draw" in John 6:44 and "drag" in Acts 16 are 2 different words in the Greek. Not only that, but when you look at the context of John 3 it's speaking of seeing God's KINGDOM as a result of being saved. In other words, you have to be saved to make it to heaven. RC is interpreting it as you can't see Jesus at all without being saved as if Jesus doesn't reveal Himself to the unsaved. Come on RC! haha. We have to choose to accept what Jesus has presented to us. We're not dragged into being saved.

And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure. Man has no choice or better stated, man does not have the ability to look to God for salvation unless God draws man to Christ, who is God. God is perfect and in the beginning man fell from grace when he, man, sinned and disobeyed God in the garden of Eden. Man (who is imperfect) was cursed (by a perfect God) with physical and spiritual death. Now that seed of sin, the curse of physical and spiritual death, is passed on to all of man's offspring, hence all men die physically and spiritually, unless...a necessaty condition is met to save man from that end. Now, if God did not, by His mercy and grace, make a means for man to be saved from the enevitable consequence of the inherent sin he possesses from birth, God would be just to send all men to hell, (condemnation) and would be just in doing so since God can do no wrong. [ Romans 1:20 ..invisible attributes...This specifically refers to the two mantioned in this verse. "by the things that are made" The creation delivers a clear, unmistakable message about God's person. (Pss 19:1-8; 94:9, Acts 14:15-17; Acts 17:23-28) ] notes on Romans 1:20 taken from John MacArthur study bible. God has no obligation to do anything for mankind...but has pulled out or sovereignly chosen an (elect group of people) to redeem. Hard to understand completely because we are not an infinite creator who is perfect, remember, you have absolutely no ability to stop yourself from dying physically and even less ability to stop spiritual death. We are at the mercy of a perfect God, who, would be just if He sent us all to perdition, condemnation...because we deserve it. Yet.....God did do a merciful act by providing a way to escape the spiritual death...and that was by taking on, having your sin attributed to His (Jesus's account), having your entire sinful life imputed to Christ, while having Christ's righteousness, imputed to your account so that, when an almighty and perfect God looks at you, He sees the righteousness of His perfect son Jesus, who died on your behalf. And it is a merciful act you could never pay for if your life10 trillion years performing good deeds of righteosness. For our righteousness is but filthy rags before God.

@@Mikael5732 Hi Mike, I understand this. We are saved through Jesus Christ. But it is not the answer to my question. If we are without excuse to acknowledge God, as Romans 1:20 says...then faith must come before regeneration. If we do not have the ability to look to God then WE DO have an excuse (i.e. we can say our excuse is that we simply don't have the ability to look to God) and then Rom. 1:20 is not true. This is my problem with Calvinism. I can't get it to fit with these kinds of verses.

wspek man is without excuse because God has clearly made himself known in creation. People who live in the Amazon jungle who have never seen a white man, let alone hear from a preacher the word of God. Are still aware that God exist. I wasn’t heard a story from a missionary who went and witnessed to a cannibal tribe living in the jungle. The missionary said that when they had killed and eaten another tribe member, they buried the bones. Ask yourself why bury the bones? They didn’t bury animal bones. The reason the missionary gave was, that there conscience convicted them that they had done wrong, and they buried the bones to hid there guilt. But you’ll probably ask, hid there guilt from who? The obvious answer would be God as the law of God is written in their hearts, knowing the difference between good and evil. So men are without excuse for they know God exist.

Do you accept salvation on Jesus’ terms, that you are a sinner with no hope in yourself nor your own good works but totally resting and leaning on Jesus alone for salvation? Has your relationship with sin changed? Do you hate the sins you once loved and justified when you were unsaved, not merely because of sin’s consequences but because you now desire to please God and stop sinning against him? Then you are one of the elect. Only the Holy Spirit can change a man’s heart to seek after God and please Him on His terms.

This expression [of our Lord], How often would I have gathered your children together, and you would not, Matthew 23:37 set forth the ancient law of human liberty, because God made man a free [agent] from the beginning, possessing his own power, even as he does his own soul, to obey the behests (ad utendum sententia) of God voluntarily, and not by compulsion of God. For there is no coercion with God, but a good will [towards us] is present with Him continually. And therefore does He give good counsel to all. And in man, as well as in angels, He has placed the power of choice (for angels are rational beings), so that those who had yielded obedience might justly possess what is good, given indeed by God, but preserved by themselves. On the other hand, they who have not obeyed shall, with justice, be not found in possession of the good, and shall receive condign punishment: for God did kindly bestow on them what was good; but they themselves did not diligently keep it, nor deem it something precious, but poured contempt upon His super-eminent goodness. Rejecting therefore the good, and as it were spuing it out, they shall all deservedly incur the just judgment of God, which also the Apostle Paul testifies in his Epistle to the Romans, where he says, But do you despise the riches of His goodness, and patience, and long-suffering, being ignorant that the goodness of God leads you to repentance? But according to your hardness and impenitent heart, you store to yourself wrath against the day of wrath, and the revelation of the righteous judgment of God. But glory and honour, he says, to every one that does good. God therefore has given that which is good, as the apostle tells us in this Epistle, and they who work it shall receive glory and honour, because they have done that which is good when they had it in their power not to do it; but those who do it not shall receive the just judgment of God, because they did not work good when they had it in their power so to do. - Ireneaus of Lyon, 2nd century church father and convert of Polycarp

Now wait a moment. The flesh still profits nothing because the flesh is the reason why you need to be saved. The problem cannot then be the solution. To feel the conviction of hearing the perfect law of God and consent, how does give praise to the flesh? Moments ago the flesh only knew to compare itself with other sinners to make it feel better about itself. Now it knows it is in sin, the flesh is given an ultimatum by God. Either step down in fealty or stand up in defiance. Is this because of some idea that God, in His supremacy and sovreign authority, cannot be enabled to do something by His creation? Is this because of an idea that faith is entirely a gift of God and unnatural in sinful humanity? But the Lord has enabled the choice, that whosoever believes upon the Son might then see eternal life, and sinful humanity puts its faith in the creation and denies the Creator who is blessed forever. Obviously we have a measure of faith imparted into us at birth like how we have a measure of strength imparted into the tiny baby body, for if when we grow old we are able to misplace it, we must have a faith that can be misplaced.

Except for the Jews in which God hardened their heart, so they were not regenerated, reason why they reject Jesus (1 Cor 2:8, Rom 11:28). Before the cross everybody was in the state of unspirituality (Rom 7:14). So God has to intervene (John 6:44,65) for Jesus to have followers. Calvin had no understanding of the bible.

Most Believers KNOW no one can save themselves. We cannot do anything to save ourselves, God gives us the faith to believe and God give us understanding to heed His Words as the Bible tells us. God also works in us and around us to give us the desire to be saved. But in Eph. 1:4-5 where He chose us to be Christians and verse 5 He chose us to be His children, it seems to me just a simple mind, HE CHOSE everyone born -to have that opportunity to be saved and His children. Peter and Timothy both say it is God's will for all to be saved. John 1:12 says as many as receive Jesus, He gives the right to be His children. Acts tells us who ever calls on the name of the Lord may be saved. John tells us HE Has chosen us and we are very thankful. But God loves the world, He wants all to be saved and He works in all. Those who believe He gives power to be His children. Yes He knows everything, who will and who will not, He may just leave the hardhearted in that state. But all have the opportunity to believe and Be saved. Wouldn't you think??

Acts 13:48 "And when the Gentiles heard this, they were glad, and glorified the word of the Lord: and as many as were ordained to eternal life believed." Romans 8:29 "For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren." Hebrews 2:10 "For it became him, for whom are all things, and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons unto glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings." John 15:13-14 K.J.V Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. Ye are my friends, IF ye DO whatsoever I COMMAND you. John 15:13-14 Matthew 4:17 K.J.V From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, REPENT: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. Matthew 4:17 Matthew 9:12-13 K.J.V But when Jesus heard that, he said unto them, They that be whole need not a physician, but they that are sick. But GO ye and LEARN what that meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice: for I am not come to call the righteous, but SINNERS to REPENTANCE. Matthew 9:12-13 Romans 9:18 K.J.V Therefore hath he mercy on whom he will have mercy, and whom he will he hardeneth. Romans 9:18 I wonder IF calvinists have ever applied (Proverbs 28:13 K.J.V) to (Romans 9:18 K.J.V). Proverbs 28:13 K.J.V He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but WHOSO CONFESSETH and FORSAKETH them shall have MERCY. Proverbs 28:13

Scott Davidson the point is limmited atonement is false teaching . What is limited atonement. L = LIMITED ATONEMENT (Calvinism teaches that Christ died only for the elect, but the Bible teaches that He died for all mankind. The reason not all are saved is because they failed to repent and receive the Saviour, not because He didn't provide for their salvation.): There's another verse among the meany verses that disapproves limited atonement. Hebrews 2:9 K.J.V But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God should taste death for EVERY MAN. Hebrews 2:9 Lets look at Atheistism. April 1st is atheists holiday. www.snopes.com/politics/religion/atheist.asp Atheist deny God because they want to LIVE their life in sin and don't have to turn from their sins daily as well as don't want to be accountable to God. Calvinism is the perfect thing for someone who is a atheist. Why beause they can believe in God and still live in their sin and dont have to be accountable to God. In one of the 5 points of calvinism you have P = PERSEVERANCE. P = PERSEVERANCE (The Bible teaches preservation of the saints; not perseverance of the saints): PERSEVERANCE in calvinism is even if someone does not live there life for God; 100% reject God and Jesus and the Holy Ghost (1 John 5:7). Calvinism believe that if God wants them to be saved they are saved in other words once saved always saved. " Once saved always saved" Lets see what Gods word says. Mark 2:17 K.J.V When JESUS heard it, he saith unto them, They that are whole have no need of the PHYSICIAN, but they that are SICK: I came NOT to call the righteous, but SINNERS to REPENTANCE. Mark 2:17 So in the false doctrine of Calvinism it teaches that a person does NOT have to admit that they are sick and need a physician, don't need to repent and trun from their sins beauce they are believe that they are elected before being "BORN AGAIN", as well as the teachingof calvinism teaches that a person does not need to pick up their cross daily. John 3:3 K.J.V Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. John 3:3 Luke 9:23-24 K.J.V And he said to them all, IF ANY MAN will come AFTER me, LET him DENY HIMSELF, and TAKE UP his CROSS DAILY, and FOLLOW me. For WHOSOEVER will SAVE his life shall LOSE it: but WHOSOEVER will LOSE his life for MY sake, the same shall SAVE it. Luke 9:23-24 So conclusion Calvinism is the teaching that someone does not need to LOSE their life of sin to be saved.

You know that Sproul would agree with you on preservation of the saints? But if you want to get at limited atonement. Read Isaiah 53, and Matthew 26:27-28 and ALL OF HEBREWS 2. Don't just isolate verse 9 because the writer of Hebrews in the entire chapter clarifies who he meant by "all". By the way the KJV is adding in "man" to verse 9. In greek the word being used here is "pas". Which simply means "all". All can be either a universal word or a limited term. When you read all of chapter 2 then you realize that the writer is talking about a limited group. By the way. Romans 9 refutes the idea that an atheist can find an excuse before God. So simply put. (And I realize I haven't definitely proved your wrong yet but I will wait for a reply.) You don't know Calvinism. And you cherry pick these passages in order to prove your point.

I can tell you what it does not mean: that a human being compels another human being to become a christian. If that is your "mode of evangelism" then you're nothing more than a tyrant. You present the Gospel yes...; and no: God's command to communicate the Gospel doesn't cancel out another "necessary condition" of the Bible to be saved. There is an end to the debate if you hold in your mind all the verses of the Bible to be true; which they are.

You may want to re-watch some of the videos in this series, I think you may have missed some important information. I will say this at first, 'The Doctrines of Grace' are, at first glance/understanding, probably one of the most emotionally unappealing and/or emotionally reprehensible teachings that one can hear. It can be quite distasteful to our flesh which strives to be autonomous, also playing into this, in the US and now many other countries, we have a spoiled culture that has its 'rights', right to this, right to that, and it's all about MY rights, we have almost no comprehension of living under a King/Monarch, under a sovereign that has all the power and control. ------- When you say 'believe', we should first understand that there are two types of faiths in Christ mentioned in the Bible; we have a mere intellectual assent/agreement (which alone is a non-saving faith), and a combination of that with deep down heart/soul conviction that involves repentance, that results in a new heart with new desires, resulting in true saving faith. Now, the first kind of faith, many can obtain or already have obtained, and does not necessarily always require God to do a special work to achieve, but true saving faith, that requires an act of God, it requires regeneration, a bringing to life from the dead, so as to make it so that you can and do respond in saving faith. When you said "So some are forced to believe?" this is not at all what the teaching is, this is probably the most common misunderstanding regarding 'The Doctrines of Grace' or more commonly known as Calvinism. No one turns to God in true saving faith apart from their will, apart from their choice. What God does is cause us to see, hear, and understand in such a way that we desire Him, and from that desire comes that which is necessary for salvation: A repentant faith towards the Lord Jesus Christ. We choose Him because He gives us the desire to do so. NO ONE is dragged, in the sense of a kind of kicking and screaming against their will, it's that our new God given desire drags our will to make the choice it now wants. To reiterate the point, we choose to believe savingly because we want to, and we want to because God gives us the desire or you could say, ability, to do so.

Daniel Skupien so when RC Sproul is referencing John 3:3 in saying you must be born again in order to see the Kingdom of God... does that mean you must be born again in order to see first so you can then have faith to believe?

@@apilkey Yes. This is the same in the natural world as in the spiritual. The natural reflects the spiritual realm. The spiritual realm pre-existed the natural realm. Here's some questions I've wrestled with. Did you choose to be born or did birth happen to you of your mom and dad? Could you see and hear before you were born? Birth was also the moment life began, so if Jesus is offering life, what necessarily is the natural state of existence of fallen man? Death. Do dead men vote? No, of course not. New birth comes with new life, belief, repentance etc, all at once.

Todd Cote Hi Todd my question was, “so when RC Sproul is referencing John 3:3 in saying you must be born again in order to see the Kingdom of God... does that mean you must be born again in order to see first so you can then have faith to believe?” Your response was “Yes.” So you’re saying you must see first in order to believe but that’s the OPPOSITE of what faith is according to the Word of God. According to the Word of God Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things NOT SEEN: HEBREWS 11:1 1 Now FAITH IS the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things NOT seen. You don’t see the Kingdom so that you can then believe. You BELIEVE so you can see the Kingdom. That’s exactly what faith is. If you gotta see it first then it’s NOT faith according to Hebrews 11:1 Faith according to scriptures is the exact OPPOSITE to how a reformer twists John 3:3. ...According to John 3:36 if you haven’t yet believed on the Son you still haven’t seen life. This verse goes hand in hand with John 3:3 and is ironically in the very same chapter we just need to keep reading: JOHN 3:36 36 He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son SHALL NOT SEE LIFE; but the wrath of God abideth on him. Q: According to John 3:36 do unbelievers see life? Does anyone see life before they believe? *Yet reformers claim to twist John 3:3 to somehow say that they do see life (the Kingdom) before they believe which is in direct contradiction to verse 36.* *You don’t see life in order to believe.* You BELIEVE in order to see life which is only IN Christ. You can’t see God’s glory until you believe. There’s no private pre-screenings to view it beforehand in order to believe. ... According to John 11:40 you believe FIRST in order to see God’s glory and not the other way around. Again this goes hand in hand with John 3:3, John 3:36 and Hebrews 11:1: JOHN 11:40 40 Jesus saith unto her, Said I not unto thee, that, IF THOU WOULDEST BELIEVE, thou shouldest SEE the glory of God? Q: According to John 11:40 do you see the glory of God so that you can then believe or do you believe so that you can then see the glory of God? What’s the clear order in this verse? IF THOU WOULDEST BELIEVE.

God dragging us to Him denotes force. I'm sure Paul and Silas didn't want to be taken into custody. They were taken in against their will. So you're implying that God draws(or drags)someone to Himself. What kind of relationship is that? A man woos a woman - courts her, loves her - and she chooses to enter into a marriage relationship with him. If he walked in and dragged her out by her hair and forced her to marry him, the marriage may still take place, but it would be built on fear and domination. Are you implying that is the kind of relationship God wants with man? How can there be true reciprocal love in such a relationship? True love and trust is the foundation of any genuine and lasting relationship. Forced love is built on fear - and it isn't true love at all.

Strong's Greek Lexicon on the word "draw" (Helko) as found in John 6:44: "to draw, drag off, to draw by inward power, lead, impel." So do you think that anyone that was dragged into heaven by God the Father will howl and complain to God and then tell Him that they don't want to be in heaven, they actually wanted to go to Hell!

@Meg Skerchak Is there even the remotest possibility that the Father can, not love the Son, or the Son can, not love the Father? The Persons of the Trinity are _unable_ to not love one another. Does this make their love for one another any less valuable or wonderful than if they were free to _not_ love one another? When we are glorified and living in the eternal state, we will finally be able to love God perfectly, as we ought to have done during our lifetimes here below, but could not do so because of our corruption in sin. Will our love for God then be less real or valuable than our poor, shabby and imperfect love is now?

Sproul is a Western reformed theologian! Consider the following from the Christian EAST! The MISSING DOCTRINE in the Protestant predestination debate is Eastern Biblical GRACE which is "God working in us" to enable ALL people to be free to receive or reject God's love! Philippians 2:12-13; Titus 2:11; 1 Timothy 2:3-6 The order is, Grace > Repentance/Faith > Life in Christ (regeneration) Jesus is truly God and truly man! The Bible is about the love of Jesus Christ for all! John 1:1, 14; 3:16; 1 John 4:8 It is by freely believing IN CHRIST by GRACE that we are chosen and elect IN Christ who is God's beloved Son and the only One chosen! Luke 9:35; Ephesians 4, 13; Romans 8:29 These riches in Christ are a result of our freely repenting and being faithful to Christ, which we can only do by the GRACE of God which is "God working in us!" 1 Corinthians 15:10 Apart from Jesus we can do nothing! John 15:5 But God loves His creation and all people and wants all to be saved! 1 Timothy 2:3-6 In love Jesus willingly died for all in order to raise from the dead to conquer death, sin, and the devil for all! This is Christus Victor! Hebrews 2:9, 2:14-15; 1 Corinthians 15:22; Colossians 1:20 God's loving Grace, which works in all who are dead in sin, enables ALL people to freely choose to love God and be saved! John 6:65; 12:32-33; Titus 2:11 But the choice to love God remains in all people! John 7:17; 11:35 The divine order is: 1) Enabling Grace for all! John 6:65; 12:32-33; Titus 2:11 2) Our freedom to repent and be faithful to Christ! Acts 17:30-31 3) Being united and made alive with Christ (regeneration)! John 20:31 What the Calvinist system does not have is God's Grace "working in us to enable us," to be free to choose to be in Christ! Philippians 2:12-13; John 6:65, 12:33-33; Titus 2:11 The Calvinist system cannot answer why Adam was created very good and created in God's image and likeness with a "mysterious free will" and Adam lived in a perfect environment and had the Spirit of God and yet Adam disobeyed God and fell from grace! Therefore, Christians can also fall from grace! Galatians 5:4 The Calvinist belief that God predestined most to go to hell, and that they are given no grace to freely believe is not the God of the Bible Who is Love! 1 John 4:8 God foreknew all those who would believe in His Son by God's Grace! God predestined them to be like Christ! Romans 8:28-30; Ephesians 1:4-5 God did not determine who would believe in Him and who would not! God’s foreknowledge does not cause man’s choices! To choose Christ and receive Christ's love for us will be Heaven. To reject Christ and Christ's love for us will be the experience of Hell! The predestined reprobates in the Calvinist system never have a chance to experience the love of God! This is injustice! John 3:16 Calvinists believe that in the atonement God the Father poured out wrath and damned and cut off God His Son on the cross! (See Sproul, McArthur, White, etc. sermons) This is a heresy condemned in the Ecumenical Councils because it splits the Eternal Holy Trinity! Christ died in order to raise from the dead and destroy death, sin, and the devil on behalf of us all! And now God commands everyone everywhere by the grace of God to repent! Acts 17:30-31; Romans 1:20
