It is an instinct we've carried from our days in the wild long ago where predators hid and hunted in the night. Similarly, animals have come to associate us not only as predators but ones who use weapons and are very intelligent. Hard to beat that combo so only one option is left.

It's a bit like horses w cats. Herbivores have eyes on both sides of the head to be on the lookout for predators. Predators have eyes in the front, to chase the prey. The horse knows a cat is a predator instinctively, but if it's alone, it's such a small predator it's no threat, so the horse is curious. Ditto for the herbivore giraffe checking out the small predator human.

Both were very calm and very patient with each other.. both are a part of nature, just different habitat, meeting one another, being curious about one another.. what a wonderful and soothing video to watch. I dont know why we all humans cant be like this with animals.. we are not the king of the earth!

The guy was out riding (because they do offer this type of activity in certain wildlife places) and a wild animal, in this case a giraffe, came upon him unexpectedly. What else was he supposed to do? And what is stupid about nature? What exactly would you have done in this situation? Sometimes the unexpected happens and you have to roll with it. Clearly you have yet to experience life. Good luck with that!

@ite8993 He is posting this for all to see. Read the comments. People love it and think it's great to interact with a wild animal-- it's not. It's incredibly dangerous. I haven't experienced life? When someone disagrees with you do you always feel the need to personally insult them? Ever seen a buffalo trample a person who was trying to get close to take a picture? I have. Ever been chased by a bear? I have. Ever had to deal with your athletic dog surrounded by coyotes? I have. I don't want to see people get the wrong idea and get hurt-- that's all.

This was really wholesome. That guy was panicking inside but thrilled at the same time. Would be the exact same in that situation. Giraffes and other animals are so majestic up close. What an experience!!!

Actually if people start giving wild animals food, the animals will associate humans with snack time and will start to expect food. Eventually they will walk right up on trail riders and expect snack, and if the human doesn't have it, they can react in a variety of ways, sometimes being dangerous. This is why you see so many DO NOT FEED signs in zoos or area's frequent in wildlife. Do not feed animals! You are conditioning them! (And an animal I know for sure in Africa that would easily be conditioned is a hyena. They are confident animals and will walk right up to humans and game trucks out of curiosity, once they see there's nothing to gain, they leave! But if we were to start feeding them, they'd bring the whole pack and frisky with their teeth when they don't have enough food!).

I love how he initially bowed his heard to the giraffe, so as not to make him afraid…he humbled himself!!! They really are majestic and a lot taller than they appear on camera!!!

At some zoos they have observation platforms that put you nose to nose with them. They're bigger than we think! With the big males their head is as big as most humans, and that's not including the rest of them.

@@Blue-rl5dp I drive thru one of those park things, where the animals come up to the car…a little scary actually…lol. I had a sunroof at the time and my little cousin was holding a bucket of feed and we all started screaming, because a giraffe just bent down and all we saw was a giant black tongue come thru the sunroof and start snacking…it was hilarious and then his head kind of got in there too! He was huge! I was really afraid of the bison or whatever that mammoth thing was, because they can tear up your whole car and everyone in it, if they freak out…lol. Back then I was driving a 2007 sports corolla…lol…it would not have been cute…🤣😂

I’m impressed with how he put his head down to show that he was not trying to be stronger or smarter than the giraffe. And clearly the giraffe picked up on his kind nature and wanted to find out more. Very cool video.

It is a beautiful sight. But please, everyone be careful around wild animals! Giraffes can front-kick and take out a lion, so a human is easy. Note on kicking: camels can side-kick, and most quadrupeds can of course rear up and knock you with a hoof or paw. And watch out for bites, too. Last year some genius bothered his "pet" zebras and the male bit off his arm. (It was his own fault. Zebras are not just stripey horses! And fwiw wild horses are not the "gentle majestic beauties" you want to go near either, much less try to pet them.)

@@zurechtweiser generally yes, similar to horses, cows, goats. But I'd put them more on the skittish side - give them any semblance of a fright, and they go into fight or flight mode, in which case you hope they opt for flight haha

Nice encounter. Glad to see a person for once just be calm and let the wildlife handle the encounter at its choice and pace rather than the human try to pet it or try to feed it. Plus the peacefulness of it by not talking and ruining it

Giraffe be like : "Homie got some grass?"

The giraffe later with all his buddies: "hey guys guess what? I saw a wild human today! And he even came up to me and let me touch him! So cute! :D"

Other way around, asshole giraffes can easily kill you in a couple of stomps. That man was calmer than if that'd have been a predator, but first instinct is to remain still and hope the giant beast doesn't hurt you.

I thought the same thing. So many idiots would be loud and try to rub all over it and try to post up on it to look bad ass. He did exactly as he should. Slow movements away from it. I’m guessing this was a reserve and the animal is used to seeing humans but still, it’s a wild animal. Many have lost respect for the power of wild animals.
