He was about 30 feet in front of me and on the same path I was on. I didn't feel threatened or panicky. I just watched him for the 5 or so minutes he stood there. The next day, I was hiking on a different trail and came across a couple of male hikers, and I felt very uncomfortable. They kept turning back and watched me. I would have been more comfortable with the bear. As someone who has been SA'ed and the guy denied it until a witness and samples, they took came forward, I would put my trust in a bear. It is the people with the mindset of this bear lady who successfully killed chivalry. Most men are taught by their parents to be a protector. So the man will either leave the woman alone, do bad things to the woman, or help the woman. That is a 2 out of 3 chance of a positive outcome. The bear will either maul kill and eat the woman or leave her alone. That's a 50/50 shot at a positive outcome. They have a better chance at a positive outcome with the man.

Its not about the bear or the human, its about appreciation of solitude/company and fear/fun of the uncaculateabel/unpredictabel. The question is to determan how anti-/social one is and why. Well if I remember right, the original scenario involved being stuck in a forest. That’s a pretty good sized location that would allow distance between you and anyone else. As long as you keep your distance from a bear, odds are they’ll leave you alone. Not many animals will expend the energy to hunt one specific prey over miles and miles. Humans on the other hand will actively seek out others if they know you’re there. It’s harder to keep your distance from another person, even if you want to. Statistically, you’re more likely to be killed by another person than by a wild animal as well. Most people are looking at this as a worst case scenario though. In the absolute worst case, you’ll be mauled and killed by the bear. It could take maybe 10-12 hours to die, but you’d also go numb from blood loss before that point. Another human can torture and kill you, and they could make it last over a much much longer period of time to the point you wished you were dead. My way of thinking was “which one would I rather be killed by?” And I chose the bear for that. Best case scenario: any other person would be more beneficial than a bear. But that’s not the measurement tool we’re using here. If it makes you feel better, I chose the bear over another woman too. I’d rather just be on my own.

  • @Diego_D7

@@ImBatman63637 here are the problems i see: "That’s a pretty good sized location that would allow distance between you and anyone else" is an assumption. "As long as you keep your distance from a bear, odds are they’ll leave you alone" is also an assumption. you don't know the situation, if you are in between the bear and their kid(s) or their prey, or if they are hungry or not. "Humans on the other hand will actively seek out others if they know you’re there" another big assumption. It is one single random stranger. You are a stranger too for this person. Why is it assumed the bear is not there with "bad" intention, but the random stranger human is? worst case scenario, you have a much better chance of fighting of the stranger than the bear, discouraging the stranger. unless we're assuming again that he has some sort of weapon with him and is there with bad intent/purpose.. Let's just remember the question is "a random man"... just for one moment think of how insanely broad this generalization is... but it is instantly assumed it's a healthy relatively young strong physical male that's there with bad intent. Other than just a dead normal male with normal good intent, it could be a male that's lost as well, could be a physically disabled male, could be an old man, could be gay and not interested in women etc etc there's millions of possibilities, yet the worst is assumed for the male, but not for the bear. the bear could hurt you and make you incapable of moving or resisting, and feed you to their kids, and i think people genuinely don't know and understand how bad it can get before you actually die or pass out. there is just way way way too much contradictions in assumptions that don't line up for this to make sense.

@@Diego_D7 The entire scenario is one very broad generalization anyway. There were no precise details given in the question so it’s impossible to answer it without making assumptions. Everything you listed would also be an assumption as well. There isn’t a “right” answer to this question. It’s just which would you prefer. I’m not sure why people are taking it so personally. And I live in bear country, I know how bad it can get so I was already assuming the worst when it comes to the bear.

But as I was listening to that I thought that they were doing the exact same thing they are doing which we are mad about, and that is trapping us with questions. Many of us women know that not all men are creeps or are to be avoided. However, based on many of our lived experiences, we need to assume that it is all men... for survival... As the saying goes... "not all men, but some men, therefore all men". I truly wish things were different, and we didn't have to think that way. I have two teenage daughters who are already being cat called when they walk down the street and hit on by customers... older men... when they're at work. Sadly, before they're even reached 17 years old, they know they need to assume "all men". 😞 Very easy for men not to understand this concept. And I hate the fact that I've had to teach them so early in their lives.. However, I do agree that people were trying a little too hard to push the narrative with this social experiment. Some videos I saw were really cringey, on "both sides".

There’s nothing wrong with being careful with people you don’t know, and even people you do know, but pushing the narrative of “all men” is like someone saying a black person robbed me so I have to assume all black people might rob me, or if I see a story that a woman was arrested with a traffic ring for luring other women so I have to assume all women might do the same, I just dislike bunching an entire group of people over a small percentage, seems unfair, being cautious is fine because I do think our experiences shape us and give us our views which is understandable

You have a 66% chance of a positive outcome with the man, but only a 50% chance of a positive outcome with the bear. Choose the man if you want to live.

@DuaneTV those are very different situations, though. They're not really comparable. You don't get robbed every single day. Yet, unwanted comments and actions happen way too often in our everyday lives. I understand where your thought process is though.

@@Angus4277 I'd take the chance with the bear. I know what to expect from a bear. If you leave the bear alone, it won't bother you. Your stats are incorrect, btw. Chances of being injured by a bear are about 1 in 2.1 million, according to the National Park Service. Unprovoked bear attacks are actually pretty rare.

The animal. Its the experience of us with the misogynistic side and being constantly pestered over the belief that we are "playing hard to get" which isnt true. No means no but usually the man wont stop if told no. An animal is expected to behave as an animal would.

@@hapymom13 so you'd rather be mauled to death by a bear than possibly helped by a random man? because most men are good men. most bears will attack you.

I can’t predict women either, that goes for every single person in the world 😂 you know some women have lured other women into trafficking right? Do you avoid all women over the small chance it’ll be one of those women?

Hey gorgeous man, I’m keeping the effort going of engaging in the content, when I first saw the trend I also thought it was stupid, but I believe it’s about bringing awareness to the trauma men have caused women to live with, being killed by a bear is instant, finished, the trauma lasts a lifetime. Love your content brother 👍🏻
