The editing of it, the harsh cuts, the jumbling camera, ruin it. Could be an artistic choice on the directors idea, but the point of a movie is to convey a message. It doesnt matter what the message is if i cant see it.

On a whim on a Saturday afternoon in 2004 I stopped at a movie theater to watch this movie. It f-ing blew me away. This is one of the most incredible movies ever made and it is so under appreciated. Denzel and Dakota are gold together. Tony Scott, the director said 95% is improvised off the script.

The original ending they shot for the movie has Creasy meet face to face with The Voice, with the explosives in his ass. He takes them out on the ultimate suicide mission. But they tried this version and realized it was much more satisfying for the audience. I agree. We get creasy who doesn’t care about courts and trials. He just cares about the girl. Gives his love for the girl. Not revenge. Let the police dope out revenge. It’s amazing.

Okay, I know Denzel is great and all, he absolutely dominates like, every single role, but the other actors are slept on. Giancarlo Giannini was great here, Marc Anthony, Radha Mitchel, Dakota, Walken too, but the main villain, The Voice, the actor played well to, we basically don't see his face for like 99% of the movie, he's only "the voice" and that's what makes him scary like hell. This film is pure art.

Seriously Legend of a film. I actually watched this during my last flight before the whole world became a mess. All I can say about this film is that it has to be one of the most underrated films ever made. Top-tier storyline, characters, scenery, and effects. Honestly a very emotional film with intense action, which is even based on a real story If I remember correctly. What made this hit my heart, even more, was because It was the last film, I got to see with my family on that plane before I would never be able to see them again till a while, and I'll never forget this film. Massive Respect to Denzel, as he nailed this film, and it's where I gained my respect for him. Truly inspirational. Worth watching, honestly speechless. 8.06.2019

It's actually way, way off. First it's Peta's life for Creasy's. Then it's Peta for the brother and Creasy. Then it just ends up being his ex-wife, the unborn baby, the brother and Creasy for Peta. That is 4 lives for 1 life. That is what always made this bullshit to me. When Daniel Ramos aka. 'The Voice' asked John Creasy how much money does he want, it struck a nerve and angered him deeply within him, because he doesn't want his money, he wants his life because he took Pita's life from him, 'blood for blood'. Creasy angrily swore to him that he will take and destroy everyone he loves, everything he has, and everything he desires within his heart, piece by piece, and leave him with nothing so that he will suffer for it, like he suffered when he lost Pita because of him, and kill him.

@@Nickallsopp92 Your point is Captain Obvious in scale. What your missing is that he was basically signing his death warrant by going after these very dangerous people on their own turf. Making it out alive wasn't a consideration. The Voice wasn't going to give himself up for anything. Not money, not power, not family. A true incarnation of evil with no interest in something so "trivial" as redemption. The point is the side by side comparison between the hero and the villain. No matter the risk, no matter the cost to his character. He was walking under his own power at the end, which is very significant. Did you see him even pass out? No. So him "dying before they could torture him" is just wishful thinking.

@@Exxeron-ob3tv if anyone is playing the captain obvious game, it's you. He literally died in the car after he left with Daniel's men in the end. They show him give his last as he finally drops his amulet of St. Jude. He was dying from the gun shots he received trying to save Pita the first time and the shot he took from Aurelio probably sped it up. He literally had nothing left to lose which why he took the deal get Pita out without fuss. You're arguing over nothing as if you have some great point.

The movie is flawed because of this. He was already risking his life just by making the exchange. But both parties had equal foot in the negotiation. It would be the same illogical twitst if Creasy asked for Pita AND The Voice's life in exchange for just him. Great movie, up to that point.

@@sovo1212 Sorry, but no. You're missing the entire sub-context of the movie. Creasy is an assassin looking for redemption in this world. That's why he drinks, that's why carries the bullet that failed to fire when he tried to kill himself. He feels guilt over his life as a killer, regardless of govt sanctioned or not, he knows he's repeatedly violated the laws of the Christian God and will suffer eternal damnation for his actions. That's why he is depressed and despondent earlier in the movie. He knows he's going to hell so what's the point of continuing on in this world. Fast forward to where Pita brings him joy, Pita reaffirms life is good. He fails to protect Pita and Pita is killed (as far a he knows). Creasy then sets about on a path of revenge, again violating the Christian God. Creasy is not killing La Hermanidad in an effort to save Pita, he thinks she's dead. His violence is based in rage, hate, and vengeance. Now we get this scene where Pita is alive, and will only continue to stay alive if Creasy surrenders and allows himself to be killed. Knowing he will be killed in a horrific manner. This is the moment the entire movie is building towards. This is Creasy's moment of salvation. Creasy is not trading his life for Pita's because he know he's gonna be dead in a few days. He's walking, talking, and fighting in this scene. Certainly if he walked into a hospital his wounds would heal and he could live to be 99 years old. No, he is willingly trading his life for Pita's, in the same manner that the Christian Jesus traded his life for all humanity. (I'm debating religion, just explaining how if applies to the narrative of this movie). By this act, Creasy willingly giving his life for Pita, the Christian God absolves Creasy of his past sins. Creasy's life is reaffirmed, he is not just a killing machine. When called upon Creasy was able to give the ultimate sacrifice, his life, to save the life of another. His past sins of murder have not destroyed his soul.
