Man of La Mancha - I'm Only Thinking of Him (1972)
Музыка
Music by Mitch Leigh.
Lyrics by Joe Darion.
Sung by Julie Gregg, Rosalie Crutchley and Ian Richardson.
Lyrics:
I'm only thinking of him
I'm only thinking of him
Whatever I may do or say
I'm only thinking of him
In my body, it's well known
There is not one selfish bone
I'm only thinking and worrying about him
I've been told he's chasing dragons
And I fear it may be true
If my groom should hear about it
Heaven knows what he will do
For they say he seeks a lady
Who his own true love shall be
God forbid that in his madness
He should ever think it's me
If he should try I'll surely die
And I will grimly
Guard my honor as I cry
I know, I know, my dear
Of course you are, my dear
I understand
Woe
Woe
They're only thinking of him
They're only thinking of him
How saintly is their plaintive plea
They're only thinking of him
What a comfort, to be sure
That their motives are so pure
As they go thinking and worrying about him

Honestly no other musical performance will ever be as good as this.
I watch this whole song just to hear the guy sing.. I love his voice
Great face palm at 01:20 , the Padre is just - yes of course, how VERY sincere you're both being.
このハウスキーパーの役を昔、大学サークルでやったこと思い出します。初めは本当にドンキホーテのこと心配していると自分は思ったけれど、そうではない。と教わって演じ方、歌い方を変えまして面白かったです。いちばん好きな場面です。
Niece: In my body it’s well known, there is not one selfish bone. Priest: stares *really hunny?* Ian Richardson nails it with his facial expressions in this scene!! 🤣

beautiful how they play off each other and do not upstage each other to make it all work.
Only an actor like Ian Richardson could upstage the people who are singing just by his perfectly timed reactions! thanks for posting this. For those who may not be as obsessed as I am, he went on to play the delightfully Machiavellian Francis Urquart in the original British version of House of Cards.

You might think that. I couldn’t possibly comment.
the expression on the padre's face: priceless :)
This always reminded me of a Monty Python skit, especially the priest.
Truly magificent performance from all 3 actors. One of the best scenes in the whole movie.
Another great song from Man of La Mancha. These old-style musicals were brilliant, I was grown up on them.
This is my favorite scene
A very good song indeed. Ian Richardson and Julie Gregg have a beautifull voice.
Love how their last note fades to a hum and then the violins pick it up perfectly. Beautiful!
I can't remember the Alto's name but I love how she holds her own, beautiful voices all around, and didn't let the soprano overpower her

Her name's Rosalie Crutchley
At least they are only thinking about him.
Love the cross voicing between Miss Rosalie and Ian. Great ranges, beautiful voices
Cynisism at its very best. Ian Richardson kills it. This is actually better than the original broadway version thanks to his acting. You cannot help but read between the lines of this song.
Bravo!!
Richardson and Crutchley, both were marvellous actors, really. Thanks for this. =)
i love this song thank u so much
Ian Richardson is a padre. Did not know he passed away last year. Remember him from "Do you have any Gray Poupon?" Incredible actor-loved him in "House of Cards" on BBC.
Lmfao!!! One of my favorites Man of La Mancha..what a performance lol
This is the best scene of any musical ever.
Even in rags, Julie Gregg is so gorgeous.
The padre in this video--so good. I love the harmonies!
BRILIANT!!!
Oh this is just bliss! It isn't well known, but Richardson was also a very fine dancer!
RIP Julie Gregg... loved you on Bewitched!

Oh I didn't know she died? :( She was also Sonny Corleone's wife in The Godfather
Best song in the movie.

And play.
I love this song and the Padre's got a nice voice if I may say.
So unusual to see that great character actress Rosalie Crutchley singing. She was nearly always cast in more than slightly sinister roles.

According to Wikipedia 'her less-than-good singing voice was used for intentionally comic effect' in this, but I found her singing not bad at all! From what I hear, it's pitched ina key ideal for a Soprano, which means it was probably a bit low for Rosalie's voice, and I daresay in another key she'd've sounded much better. Nice tremelo, too.
I love this musical and specifically this song. I love the priest, masterfully played by Ian Richardson. I love the camerawork and set design. The costuming is masterful... Now if only they could sing in a Spanish accent... this is Spain, not England.
I have such a huge crush on that Padre.
Thank god finally someone added this! This song is soo cool! I love how all there voices are so different! THANK YOU
Ian Richardson was so beautiful. I'm surprised he was a tenor. I'd always assumed he'd be a baritone as he had such a rich speaking voice.

What someone's speaking voice sounds like is not a reliable indicator of what his or her singing voice will sound like. I have a very (and I do mean VERY) high singing voice but if you heard my speaking voice, you'd never know this and you'd probably guess that I sing either mezzo-soprano or alto if not contralto. I also once knew a man who was in training to be an opera singer who sang countertenor but whose speaking voice implied that he was a bass.

@@OreadNYC Actually, I do agree. I'm a high soprano and I've had people assume I'm a mezzo because my speaking voice is lower. I shouldn't have been surprised about Ian Richardson really.
we watched this in Spanish 2 and I was singing the chorus to myself during our run so I could not focus on running pains XD
I love the priest!
whoo, the song is so cool^^ i sing it in german at our school theatre. bad thing that they changed the text sometimes when it was translated to german...
Ian's facial expressions kill me😂
Don't you know him? He was a populair british actor, most populair in the 90 years. Some movies for example: Dark City, House of Cards, To Play The King...
he's awesome! In fact, I'm so stoked to play the character this season I'm telling random people on the internet about it...
The Padre looks like Blessed William Joseph Chaminade
@bunnyndisguise I know right!
Ian Richardson definitely makes this scene with his reactions. But why did they trim the number?
Y'know, this all sounds really good till you hear the clearer quality and realize there is so much unneeded 70s synths.
don quixote only sees good inside people. evil doesnt exist in people he sees
Sounds like ghost singer Marni Nixon to me.

Nope, Julie Gregg and Rosalie Crutchley. The only actor dubbed for singing was Peter O'toole.
@galenct I already watched it, thanks. Oh, and... no.
Holy Shit! It's Francis Urquhart!

A fantastic musical ,unfortunately they had people in the lead , who could not sing. They could not hold a candle to Richard Kiley , the show deserves a remake with a cast that can sing like Hugh Jakeman as Don Quixote
Is there another movie in that we might recognize Ian Richardson?
Well ok
Ginger and Maryann
Wasn't Julie Gregg in the film "That Godfather" too?
Thus material was deemed worthy of film treatment? A bad day for musicals.
At :35 he slips up on who is singing. At :40, he holds back laughs.
maybe that Padre should have been Pope someday.
She may even have cheating on her mind, Woe oh? The glory of a pure performance should be as happy as her birth right. Birth Right is not a legal curse on the well lettered. Letters are my inspiration. Brain Storm Brian Koller
They sound like Democrats. You can't have Happy Meals, you must buy health insurance or pay a "tax'... we're only thinking of you!
