Man Films Amazing Walk Across World's Deepest Frozen Lake
A man films an amazing walk across the world's deepest frozen lake, walking across Lake Baikal in Siberia.
"Walk on the incredibly transparent, crystal clear ice. It felt like I was standing on the water or walking on a very fragile glass. Despite this, I knew it's safe to be there as thickness of ice was about 15cm,
I could clearly see the bottom of the lake, stones, fish. All of this made me feel like I was looking into a fairyland, which never existed anywhere apart from dreams. Such a miracle. Iced Baikal is something really extraordinary and mesmerizing" the filmer wrote online.

Cool 👍 Lake Baikal (5,315 feet [1,620 meters]) Lake Baikal in Siberia, holds the distinction of being both the deepest lake in the world and the largest freshwater lake, holding more than 20% of the unfrozen fresh water on the surface of Earth. Why is Lake Baikal so deep? Lake Baikal is so deep because it is located in an active continental rift zone. The rift zone is widening at a rate of about 1 inch (2.5 cm) per year. As the rift grows wider, it also grows deeper through subsidence. So, lake Baikal could grow wider and deeper in the future.

Water freezes only at the top, so the water below it is normal due to something we call convection. Same applies when cold water starts to boil, the upper part of the liquid is cold n heavy so the warm water below it being lighter it moves upwards as the cold water moves downwards so the water becomes hot. All is through conventional currents

I did this last year (2017-2018 winter) and it went well, then my friend dropped a massive stone next to me from the bridge, I plunged into the icy lake. I had to stay out of school for 3 weeks for hypothermia and a fever. Got to revise for my GCSE's though, so not that bad.

Should be mentioned that the ice quality is amazing in this video as its very clear and solid. They'd be very safe on ice half that thickness.. In MN we regularly ice fish on 3 inches of good clear ice. That's like what? About 7 cm? But being over a few thousand feet of water might make a person a bit more cautious. 😆
