They can survive for about ten minutes out of water. They don't breathe water, the breathe oxygen that filters through their gills. If her gills stay wet and don't stick together, she's fine.

Thank you for putting her back. I was on the beach in Miami when I was younger and a man caught a very small shark....it was a baby. In front of a surrounding crowd watching he cut off it's fins and tail while I cried hysterically. It is not a sight, that I will ever forget ....until the day I close my eyes!

When she starts flapping like _"Leave mah baby alone!"_ when the guy was trying to push it into the water

Wish people would realise that the reason the string ray was giving birth was because it felt threatened. Like Sharks, Stingrays would release their young even if they are unformed so that the predator would eat the children instead allowing the mother to escape.

The offspring is probably going to die anyways. They were not mature enough. It went into labor not because it was the right time, but because it was dying. The hipoxemia and stress of the fish triggered to expulse the offspring early. There is also some videos of sharks giving birth on the shore when they are dying. Well at the end probably all of them dyied.

Since everyone is freaking out I thought I'd clear some stuff up. 1) some scientists believe fish, and in this case stingrays, do not feel pain. So don't think these little guys are suffering. There are experiments out there that you can google. 2) Stingrays abandon their pups after they are born so it's not like the mom lost her young. She would have left them anyways.

Nikola Lindemann That is not actually a Manta ray. Manta rays are very large in size and are completely different in shape. Plus, I believe they come from different areas then what is seen in this video. They are found in deeper parts of the ocean, whereas this stingray was found near the shore. This type of sting Ray is actually very common which is why they were fishing for them because they are used as shark bait.

While I'm incredibly glad they released her, I was concerned that she and the newborn stayed out too long. Being relatives of the shark family, it's really important for the wellbeing of their gills to be in water at all times, I hope she's doing well! Great video though!

***** ok wow thanks for your comment I was amazed at the fact that I've never seen a stingray give birth. Your more then welcome to record my birth but due to your arrogant comment I'd rather not, don't reference me to an animal no I wouldn't enjoy having a hook pulled out of my mouth not did I in anyway mean to courage that it was ok and my first birth was extremely traumatic so I can understand the sensation of trying to give birth while someone is hurting me I've been there before. However I'm sure the person in the video was trying to take it out quickly before the mother become more distressed . Next time uploaded a video of how this can be done more nicely .

+Sharmin Pereira-Candia its cause its people like that who get salty but in my honest opinion he had to do what he had to do it would have took way longer to get the hook out if he gently took it out Oh and Gently and slowly taking it out would pretty much have the same cause because the sting ray would flinch and had the same effect.

It was pretty amazing to see....and wow, some people have no sense! He WAS letting her go! He had to get some pliers to remove the hook and he obviously grabbed the cooler to prevent getting stung by her. I do think he could've maybe been a bit easier turning her over, but geez, he did what he could as soon as he could do it to release mom

Well, he saw it giving birth, he could at least put it back in the water instead of keeping it onland. That is very very very mean.

I think your trying to defend him because your a Fisher... I hate it that people see fish giving birth and they pull them on to shore and kill them, they think their humans.... The fishers are disgusting brutal and should of been killed by that stingray!
