i personally think that what this man did was nothing short of amazing. I too have a great love of history and a passion for WW1 in particular. This man invested a lot of time, money, blood sweat, tears, and a lot of heart. You are an inspiration Mr. Robertshaw.
I bet the neighbours hate him
just trying living next to him just mowing the lawn when your neighbor tells you "you better put your gas mask on"
Ha ha ha brilliant, would love to be the neighbour, won't have to rent anymore war movies :))
If a sewer main bursts and floods his trenches then that can help towards the experience?

it was not as flooded as they were in 1916
Blowing whistles before leaving the trench was to let the Germans know when to start shooting.
nice pun at the end
Will he start digging an anti-tank trench next summer.
Dad's building me a trench right now.

Ive started to design my own again , for the last two years i have built underground.tunnels to do with ww2 now im moving onto trenchs, and i think that its great set up., but i think a little more planning would have helped . But overall its great
Thank You!
This is absolutely wonderful (and horrifying for the neighbors). Kudos, Prof.
(Continued) A true representation of trench life, but their is now no living memory of this, so this can help educate against man's folly !! !!
Where is this? Can I go there and try it out too?
Shouldn’t the trench wall be wood

They were made of metal, clay and dirt, not just wood.
how did the home owners association let him
It has some level of value - but it's too shallow. As for propping a ladder so the enemy could see where folks would be getting out of the trench....not a good idea.

The enemy wouldn't see that because of the distance and if they poke their head up they would be shot
