Mamma and Me Freedive Barbados

My Mamma is one of my best friends, I moved back to my tiny island of Barbados two years ago and I'm so happy that we get to spend time together again. She was the one who inspired all my adventures from the start. Her stories ofAustralia and Asia seemed so much better than even the fairytales in books. A land of strange and magical places and people and creatures. I had to go! And as much as it was hard for me to leave my heart needed to face the wind and the sea and to go to those places and live my own story. Much like an ancient rite of passage and a coming of age, I spend 12 years travelling Australia, South east Asia and the world really searching for myself. I think growing up in a small place you always want to go and experience the big places, and wow are they amazing! But in the end after all my travels any time i would go home towards the end of those 12 years I was asking myself more and more as the plane would take off.. Why am I leaving? The pull of HOME was getting stronger!! Finally I uprooted my life and moved back to Barbados again. And though I still travel! In the last two years I have been to: Florida, The keys, Grenada, England,Thailand, Malaysia, Sweden, Denmark and Canada (phew!) - I am so happy to call HOME my HOME again and feel my roots dig deep into this rock again!
My mum is my hero and my mum and my best friend! She never stops amazing me, she did the freediving course with me and she is progressing beautifully and becoming one of my absolute favourite dive buddies! She sailed across the atlantic to find this island and she has so many stories that I still love to hear and to learn from. Love ya mum! so glad we get to spend time like this together again!
This dive we did just the evening before Tropical Storm Kirk hit us, and the ocean was just alive with life and the water was so so still and blue! It was as if all the life was out to grab a meal before the water turned to turmoil, I said good luck to all my turtle friends and headed in to await the swell.

bbman58 thanks! Well that is a hard question. I used to but As an instructor now I dive very often so I don’t get the urge to breath as soon as I used to, so for these dives no I don’t get contractions as I’m quite comfortable at these depths and for this amount of time. I know these wrecks and swim throughs very well so they don’t get my mind into a panic state and I don’t get tense like I might if I was starting out in wreck diving. If you are ever in Barbados come on down and I’ll give you the 101 on Freediving ship wrecks ;)

static (just holding your breath for time) is my least favorite discipline! I’m a deep diver/spearfisher 👌 Last time I did a proper static was years ago for the instructor course I did about 4mins 30 seconds and that was a struggle. But I have done dives that have been over 3mins to depth of that tells ya anything 🙃 Deep is what I like, my mind is more quiet then. When I’m doing static I find it hard to quiet the voices in my head and relax. But! I’m a very good static coach! And allot of my students do really well in static 😉
