Wow ! Thank you sooooooo much
How very public-spirited to put this online in, almost, its entirety. An important contribution to keeping the integrity of this music, with culltural context. One important thing that is missing that is on the original DVD (and the series) appears to be the full-speed 'show' for each rhythm. The learning demo is at half speed and so some might get the impression that this is the performance tempo. The great thing about Mamady's series is the emphasis on mastering the fundamental rhythm. In the world of djembe teaching there can be a tendency to launch prematurely into solos. (On the other hand, the third in this set does go into solos, but not for the earlier rhythms. Groups are motivated to higher things by bring able to perform, independently without the tutor, and without a soloist it's rather flat and incomplete. ) Also not in this series are the many little "variations" in dundun parts that elevate performances. Of course all of this can be learnt from a good tutor, and Mamady stressed that you can't learn everything from a video. There are unfortunately djembe teachers around whose knowledge or teaching skills are deficient, and that is why Mamady's legacy of teaching materials is so important. You have to turn elsewhere for the full implementation with the song and dance, but the drums I think can provide a creditable performance on their own.
To look up specific rhythms in this video / pour trouver des rythmes spécifiques dans cette vidéo: Fankani @ 11'12", Djagbè @ 19'13", Soli rapide @ 26'51", Kuku @ 33'24", Mendiani @ 39'48", Djaa @ 44'34", Moribayassa @ 50'30".

Merci BEAUCOUP Mamady!

Hello from New York, thank you for the KuKu and many other African beats. Please hook me up with a hand made Djembe drum,13in. Goat or thin calf ,but leave some goat hair around edge of head. I can shave down with razer blade.Or sand if not to long. You guy's pick a design on wood, love animals carved in wood. The skin could be med dark or white with spot's like my Man is using now. I love that drum. Also love the sound ,I need a nice properly tuned Djembe drum . I'm playing a Toca Djembe drum 14in. Goat, mechanical tuned head. On a fiberglass shell with lugs for tuning. I want I need I must have . $$$ shipping no good . Put on a camel 🐪 and I'll be waiting hahaha
[Monbaza Taiwan]Those were all in the 3 DVD set we used to have.
