In December 1999 - January of 2000, Monette Marino traveled to Balandougou, Guinea with Mamady Keita, Mahiri Keita Edwards, Fred Simpson, Mamady Keita's producers Claude and Lou Flagel of Fonti Musicali and a team a Japanese students and filmmakers. During this trip the village organized a Welcoming Festival for Mamady Keita and his guests, the local drummers played the popular rhythm Djagbe and Mamady soloed for the villagers.
