I was born in Malta in 1932. I experienced the the war, bombings and the anti-aircraft guns all around us. Our school was transferred to the building across from St Paul's Cathedral in Mdina and we went underground to sleep. I thoroughly enjoyed your video and commentary was accurate and comfortable to listen to. You brought a lot of memories to me and look forward to my next visit from B. C. Canada

Great Video, as always. Thank You!
I lived in Gozo for eight years. I knew my village and parts of the island but very little about the larger island of Malta. Also you know how it is, when you live in a place you never do the things tourists do, such is the arbitrary nature of humans. So, I loved the documentary, saw things I had never seen, and learned things I never knew. So thank you, thank you or as the Maltese say, grazzi hafna!

I thoroughly enjoyed your take on the birthplace of both of my parents. I am Canadian born but have visited many times and I appreciate that you, as a Brit (?), took so much time to soak in the history and culture of the islands rather than just sit in the pubs with other Brits and bemoan the shortcomings and the lack of familiar amenities as I have witnessed on my visits there. With fast and booming industrialization, I wonder how Malta was able to preserve their structures. I had observed majority of its environment is covered by rocks and natural cream- colored buildings/fortress. There aren't much color. They combined ancient and modern design (outdoor is of old, indoor is of modern touch). It's only 2 days but I had travelled Norway, India and now Malta, visa-free, no queuing on transports. It's a great opportunity that there is travel documentary like yours wherein we can get a glimpse of the world. Before, I can only visualise in novels like that of Sydney Sheldon, but now aside from Natl.Geographic Soc., you are becoming part of history that brings the world in the eyes of people at every corner of the globe. Wow! thank you for your adventurous nature.

I dont have this much money to pay. Can any body help me for getting job in malta.
I was born in Malta. My parents left because after WWII there was nothing much left of the place and the economy was non existent. Now it is overcrowded with tourists and being built out. Maltese drivers are the worst in the world and dangerously so, The roads are good but the driversa ae crazy. We were there a few years ago and hired a car to go around the main island and Gozo whihch was fun and the best way to travel as you get to stop wherever you like. We stayed at St Pauls Bay, away from the maddening crowds and had a nice time at the Porto Azzuro hotel. Always do research on hotels before you go as there are some great off season deals to be had . The buses are still ancient in parts but I noticed that is improving. Being Maltese I really enjoyed being able to communicate with the locals who were really freindly and accomodating. My mum taught all her 9 kids the language when we were young. I visited where my mum and dad came from, Senglea and Birgu, two of the oldest cities in Europe with their narrow and worn granite stepped streets. The old dockyard is now abandoned and it looks like Malta's foreshores have become one big marina for the rich and fatuous. As usual the rich want everyhting to themselves but I hope that does not happen to my island home. One aspect of Malta's history seldom spoken about is its importance in the African slave trade where it was a major trading port especially during the centuries of wars between the Knights of St John and the Barbary coast muslim pirates. The one mentioned in this video, Dragut was one such pirate who freelanced for the Ottomans out of Tunisia. This is the real hsitory of Malta long before the Turks tried to invade. IN fact that invasion was the result of the Turks wanting to destroy the Knights base from where they used to maraud the Turkish shipping and pirate activities. Slavery played an important part in making Malta the cosmopolitan place it is today and you can see the many different peoples reflected in the modern Maltese now. The Muslims were in Malta for almost 500 years and left an indelible mark on the place such as the city of Mdina, originally a muslim city. Jean La Valette was a brillaint man, city builder, soldier and leader who insired his Knights to amazing feats of breavery and endurance, esepcually during the great Siege by the Muslims. I rememebr my uncle pointing out the stains in the rampart walls wehere the Maltese had poured hot boiling oil on the Muslims below to stop them ascending the walls! Those walls have some atories to tell! One of the best stories ever written about Malta are The Kapillan of Malta by Nicholas Montserrat. I highly recommend it.

Wow thanks Sam. I tend to play down negative aspects of a place and emphasize positives. I read ‘The Seige Of Malta’ when I was there in 1970, so I must search for The Kapillan. Paul
