    Which one of the routes did you chose? 1) 167km 2) 225km 3) 312km?

    I did 312km last year, loved it, one of the best sportives. My top tips ... 1) Train for it! Unless you're a pro cyclist this is one you should really train for. You need to be comfortable doing at least 250km to complete the 312km. 2) Arrive early if you do not have a VIP package. I arrived a good hour before the start when the pens opened up. I got away pretty quickly once the VIPs had gone. 3) It can be cold when you arrive at the start at 0530 hours (like 8C) even in April. So take a jacket/thermal layer or snood you can stuff in a pocket when it warms up. I saw people shivering for a good hour on the start line. That's not a good way to start. 4) Make a feed station - distance - time table and tape it to your top tube. Then you can glance down and have a constant reminder of what you need to do to complete the distance and where the stops are. I found this so helpful re my pacing. 5) As you say, pace yourself, don't get carried away and swept up in a fast train. You can easily blow up. 6) Don't spend too much time at food stops especially early on. Just fill your bottle grab some food and eat on the go. The further in you go the less crowded the stops become. 7) Enjoy yourself whatever happens :)

    Great advice and presentation.. I’m a diabetic and got my fuelling wrong on my first and second events such that I bonked and could only just manage the 167. Hopefully I’ve learnt my lesson and will finish the 312 this year.

    Yes, fuelling for such an event is always critical. Even more so when being a diabetic. I was amazed when last year I rode with a guy well over 50 who was a Type 1 and has ridden the Ötztaler Radmarathon already a couple of times... 225km and 5,000m of elevation. Best of luck to you!

    Hi, It is a useful video. I am going to try and do the full 312 this year. I think I will find the cut off time quite challenging. If I can't get a VIP package. What time should I plan to get to the start line? My plan to bring enough food and drink to get to the 3rd feed station before stopping. BTW I think we met at the last GCN Mallorca event

  • @leg_works

    @leg_works

    2 жыл бұрын

    Hi Richard, yes we met last October at the GCN event. I remember you! As for the M312, I suggest to be 10-15min before the official start time at the start line. Last year there was a bit of confusion which box to start in exactly and it can become a bit stressful to run back and forth while the first riders are already taking off, I imagine. As for the cut off times, I think they will be more relaxed this April. Problem was that the sunset end of October was already quite early compared to April and that pretty much dictated the cut off times. Since the feed stations are well organised I think you can refill your bottles and grab a snack and gel in under 5 minutes - easy. On the 225/312km route, the 3rd feed station will be in Escapdella about 130km into the race.

  • @leg_works

    @leg_works

    Hey Rafael, If possible I would recommend to ride the route before hand, even if it's broken down in multiple stages. Just to familiarise with the route. Other than that, I think you just need to practise riding the distance. I'm currently throwing in a longer ride each month, like 160-180km on top of usual 3-4hrs rides. It helps to know your pace, align your nutrition strategy, and makes you get more comfortable in the saddle. Good luck and see you next year!

    @@rafaeltaleisnik4129 haha, that's a good one 😁 but a valid concern. Not sure if it can be seen on one of the pictures. I actually taped a power bank to the bike. But in the end I didn't need it. I have the 1030 and even though it's like 6-7 years old, the battery will last for 10-12 hours. Especially if I disconnect the radar which you don't need on the ride.
