This is a bandish originally composed by Kumar Gandharva. Many have sung it including his daughter Kalapini. But what i have heard now made me forget Kalapini as well as Kumar Gandharva whom iam so fond of. This is an absolute gem and precisely the way it needs to be rendered. It sounds like the old fashioned classical masters who would put their heart and soul in to it. This is a gift from the Gods. Absolutely amazing and pristine. Its really tragic that she did not get her due in the upper echelons of classical musicians that she rightfully deserved.

May be she lived at such a place like Hyderabad...far away from lime light. But Pt Kumar Gandharv himself dwelt in a similar remote place like Dewas, near Indore.

Sohini choose her voice,she sang the whole song with such an ease that it looks like she is not singing but she became the rag herself. Just incredible And there is also some confusion between people's that is she malini or kalapini,so I suggest them to listen another bandish of sohini sung by malini jee(kahe ab tum aaye ho). I assure you if you'll listen to it carefully and then listen this bandish again,will surely clarify your doubts. The taans and style of singing in both of the bandish are almost matching and I think that this is an early recorded voice of malini jee that's why you're facing some problem in identifying this. Enjoy your music❣️ Ps: whoever is listing to this I want to congratulate you because you got a good taste of music.

This is not Kalapini Ji. her style is somewhat different.

To me this sounds like Vasundhara Komakali. Kumaraji's disciple and wife for decades. Certainly not Malini tai. Malini tai often sticks to traditional Gwalior Gharana style, and this is not Gwalior style. This is characteristic Kumar style. But the voice is not like Kalapini either. From the way the Tabla is recorded etc, this is not a modern recording. It must be from 70s or early 80s. If so, it just cannot be Kalapini.

Definitely not Malini ji ... Or may be the audio is in little fast forward mode..

I am very much sure! The texture of voice and delivery of bandish is particular to malini tai. She has sung many compositions of Pt. Kumar Gandharva, I can cite a few. So this comes as no surprise.

Navinjee I have posted the same composition in a facebook group dedicated to her singing and you are also an active member of the same group. People those who have liked the post include her own daughter and many other fans and students who know her singing since very long time. Of course if this doesnt clear the doubt for sure, then we can confirm from any senior musician.
