But that's the real brilliance here, there is still comedy in this fight. When the Prisoner suddenly shield-rushes Malenia, or the Guy pulls out the hammers? Those moments are really funny!! -- but not in the way that detracts from the dramatic tension of the epic battle. This is some really brilliant scripting, here.

A lot of people have pointed out how epic this episode is. I share their views, but I'd like to point out exactly what it is that makes this one in particular hit home so hard: It is an actual fight. A genuine, honest to god fight. We have seen our tarnished achieve victory before. We have seen him exploit weaknesses, we have seen him come out on top in both desperate and extremely silly ways. And we have also seen him flail around, screaming and dying, while trying to come up with some desperate gambit to turn it all around. But we have never seen him stand his ground and FIGHT. I think it's fitting that it took Malenia of all bosses to bring this out in him. There's something about her pride, her fury, and her relentless straightforward raw skill that forces anyone who fights her long enough to square up and put everything on the line. A fine display, tarnished. Now prepare to witness true horror. :3

The details on this... Frenzy caster getting picked off first after launching a single-hit spell (which Malenia is coded to always dodge) because he made the first attack and triggered agro... Prisoner still having no helm, keeping with continuity, shield charging to stagger and throwing away her shield to two-hand her spear, then gets grab animation'd... And the main boy putting his full strength build to use with not just Lion's Claw ash of war, but Dual Hammers!! And dodging Waterfowl!?? This is 100% meeting my high expectations.

honestly, playing the fight straight instead of silly jokes and just doing some legitimately great action animation was probably the best choice of how to portray this after all the build up. also its not every day that carbot genuinely gets to show off as animators, but i mean, when you make little cartoons on youtube for over 10 years, you're going to get good at it.

Absolute peak cinema, no joke. especially the waterfowl dance and the swap to dual wield right after. too good man.

Holy smoke, our boy the tarnished dodged the water fowl attack, that was amazing.

I love how the Tarnished doesn't stumble and fumble as much here. You meet Malenia very late in the game by which time you are already a pretty experienced player. She still schools you, but you are no longer terrified of a challenge.

I just can't stop coming back to this one. Does our tarnished hero have a name? Thumbman? That fowl dance sequence was just so freaking cool that i get goosebumb every time i watch it, and then when he goes full anime with the hammers, i start laughing with that "this is awesome laugh".

Man, I love this game. I love the passion it spawns. I really hope we see the guy go through the DLC too. People have such a connection to the experience - its real cathartic to watch this and be like "yeah that was me". I love this series.

This reminds me of DBZ Abridged, a show that basically turned every line into a joke, and yet when Gohan went SSJ2, they played it 100% serious and totally stuck the landing. The subtle quick eye glowing just before atking the boss was a wonderful touch-up following up with her swiftly dodging it, was such a smooth transition. Been a fan since ER First came out, and loved every video of it and more. Thank you carbot for being an wonderous and amazing animator and editor to these amazing and great videos you put out

This perfectly depicts ones countless attempt on Malenia, but already mastering the fight near victory.

Love the Prisoner coming in with the Shield Crash body check to steal aggro away from the host and onto herself, that is what it means to be a summon, sometimes you just gotta go "nope, host is more important, hey boss, over here!" even if it doesn't do much in the end.

Many times I threw myself as a sacrifice for the boss when I was summon and bosses HP was down in hopes that my de-aggro would give host good enough opening to kill the boss. You never know most of the time :(

This was absolutely beautiful, got goosebumps when the music blared as he started dodging waterfall dance. Its amazing how Carbot can go from silly to epic in the blink of an eye, and it feels completely natural and earned. All our tribulations thus far have prepared our tarnished for this very moment!

The thing that I liked the most about that animation is that it is almost frame for frame how to actually dodge roll through that move. Roll roll, step around a second, roll roll roll.

It is so funny how the road lead to the boss is full of messages that depicted fear, determination and the "you don't have the rights". That is one my most memorable scene I have ever seen during my first playthrough.

It’s striking to me, just how much of an underrated talent Carbot is. This is seriously excellent cinematography and writing here! My favorite part: when Malenia is rising and the shadow she casts over our hero resembles the grim reaper with her scythe. Beautifully done!

@ theoremable You dont know the half of it! Carbot’s first series, StarCrafts (based on the RTS StarCraft 2) was so popular that Blizzard gave their blessing for carbot to make an official mod. You could play StarCraft in the carbot style. All character sprites, maps, and effects were 2D animated. I don’t know if a KZread animator has ever had such an awesome reception.

Man, watching The Guy go on the offensive in the funny Elden Ring Parody actually gave me shivers, and got more attention from me than any big budget film has for the last two years. Thats some character progression right there.

We really have progressed, havnt we? Our guy started out a bumbeling, squishy grape to be crushed by anything or anyone. From invader to boss, all he could do was run away. But as the show moved on, he got better. Actually fighting against bosses, still dying of course, but managing to hold his own. And now, look at him. While his summons get crushed, reminiscing about the old times when that would have been him, he dodges Waterfool close up, a feet which most expirienced players cant even pull off, and only gets chipped at the end, he carries the fight for what is likely 80% of it (against a buffed Melania might I add) and fights like an equal in general. He is no longer a weakling, he has become a pretty good player. I cant wait for him to become Elden Lord, only to then face the DLC and complete his character arc as a truly excelent player. Starting a new game again, but this time looking upon it as not a fool, who is yet to expirience the harshness of the souls genre, but a wisend sage, who is no longer afraid. Truly, THIS is characterdevelopment.

I have tears in my eyes as i lived through the passage with him. Our boy has achieved greatness!

It's been two years, but Carbot finally got around to Melania and it was beautiful. 😢

Got to Malenia today for the first time and after celebrating my victory on the first try(didn't know about the second phase tho) this video is just perfect! When I first dodged her Waterfowl dance later it felt epic just like the scene from this video. Now everytime I try her I will play this theme in the background. I loved all the videos so far but this is a masterpiece..just beautiful. Cheers and keep going.

I was waiting for "Let me solo her" to clash with her blade at the last possible moment and look down at our tarnished and say "Hey, you did really great! But Why don't you let me take care of the rest?" And then epic anime style fight goes down where the animation gets cranked up to 11!

Absolutely amazing. Best episode so far. Been looking forward to this since the series started and yall knocked it out of the park.

That rotating shot was godly animation fair play! Loved every single second, and feel so proud for the little guy! His confidence is growing with every fight! Love it!!!

Carbot is generally the funny animations guy, but when he wants to pop off my god does he pop off.

MY MAN HAS THE MOVES!!!! Also the fact that you made it epic yet still hilarious is awesome, and the dynamic of the fight was 100% spot on. Goes for the mage first, second summon gives their life in exchange for yours, and the final duel truly commences.

As much as I miss the excellent humour these videos are usually chalked with I think it was for the best that they played this one completely straight not only because of how damn epic and exhilarating it feels to play, especially the process of getting better and better with each consecutive attempt, but the fact that playing it straight and epic can ensure they not only meet our expectations after all the hype but end up actually EXCEEDING THEM. And also HOLY CRAP THE ANIMATION IS SO GOOD WTF GREAT JOB GUYS

I've never felt more powerful in a game than when I first (intentionally) dodged Malenia's dance. This video perfectly visualizes this feeling at 02:11

This is by far, the best animation made video on this channel. Don't get me wrong, the quality standard is usually at an amazing level. But this... this is perfect.

Carbot you fucking tease. I was expecting Malenia to be episode 3/3 then had to wait an extra week and now I have to wait another week again. God damn it. This was epic as fuck though, especially the part where the camera is panning through the waterfowl. I love the way the music synced with the attacks too. 10/10 next week can't come fast enough.

I thought Let me Solo her was gonna come in and Stop Malenia's blade with one finger in order to save the main hero. That would of been sick but the hero popping off was crazy too 😂😂
