Malekko Sneak Attack

We’re launching a Sneak Attack from Malekko Heavy Industry. Malekko has taken the simple concept an attack decay filter and expanded it to never-before explored frontiers. The Sneak Attack delivers automatic volume swells and otherworld filtering effects by offering the player’s choice of attack and decay waveforms. 25 different selectable waveform combinations control how your guitar signal fades in and out, from lush, violin-like swells to staccato chirps. The attack and decay time of each waveform side can be set individually, for swells and decays of any length. The sensitivity at which the Sneak Attack reacts to your playing is controlled by the sensitivity, which doubles as a tap multiplier when using the Lil Buddy footswitch. LFO mode turns the Sneak Attack into a full-featured tremolo, letting users cop several classic trem sounds by adjusting both sides of the waveform and skewing each one with the Attack and Decay Length controls. In this mode, the Level knob controls the rate of the LFO, and by using the optional Little Buddy, you can add tap tempo control to the Sneak Attack. In Manual Trigger mode, only the Attack curve and knob are active, and clicking the switch once delivers a flawless swell with no decay once it reaches full volume. In this mode, the Little Buddy can be used as a remote swell including attack and decay. Like all Malekko pedals, the Sneak Attack is made deal within a dark place right here in Portland Oregon.

Andy is the only guy on youtube that both has access to all the new effects and then gets what they are for. A true music aficionado. Thank the gods!

I wish he had his own channel, his demos always do the best job conveying the ground a pedal covers without being too long or wordy.
The Metro sold me on this. Andy has a seriously good palette of musical tastes, I would never have expected a Berlin song in a pedal demo.
Andy's high as f***

The Metro... haha, loved it
I don't get the one trick pony comments. This has way more versatility than most stand alone pedals. At the least its like a slow gear a term and a volume pedal combined with a shitload more control over waveform. At least it's not another TS clone or Klone

Tremolo is one trick pony. This thing is a many trick pony, including basic trem.

If you can get it to work !?! Maybe mines broken? Used on Reverb .. can’t get those sounds
They've come up with the sickest stuff recently and I think it totally helps that not only are they super creative, they're diving into modular synth stuff and those tools can bleed over into the guitar playing realm for some really interesting sounds. Great job as usual Andy. Sick demo.
You never cease to amaze me with the musicality you bring to all of the differing effects that you demo.
I don't get the "one trick pony" comments. Any pedal that is only one thing like reverb, delay, etc only do one thing but in different ways. Just like this pedal.
Good to see you took this for a ride on the metro.
Intro is definitely "Cathedral" inspired. Love it!
Nice work Andy!!
Now this is a solid swell pedal. I'll be finding one on my board some time soon.
Thanks for your in depth and inspired demo
Andy used Sneak Attack - it was super effective!
Fantastic! I love this pedal
You know it's gonna be a good demo when Van Halen's "Cathedral" is the intro song.
I can see many possiblities for this. Those calling it a one trick pony lack creativity
Love it! Something truely different::-)
Very unique pedal,and in the hands of a creative music mind,very cool.
Andy is just so freeekin good!
Boss Slow Gear on steroids?
That's awesome
wow!!very cool

I think you’d love one of these Ryan, very interesting pedal!
I love this guy
Whoa! COOL! :-D
Sounds like a violin in the intro, crazy!
At least someone improved the concept of the pigtronix Philosopher king compressor.
I like it.
Sounds like a budget Moog MuRF. Nothing wrong there! Definitely not a Trem sub but certainly a sweet toy.
Pretty convinced this is OP to the attack decay, slow gear, and anything else.
I was so expecting Andy to break into "Dancing In The Street" when the drums kicked-in following "Cathedral." Anyone expecting that or just me?
This is trippy as shit, I wanna be in a band w you,Andy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is Andy GOD? Yes. Andy is GOD. God of Taste and Technique.
At last an alternative to the Philosopher King.
RIGHT ON for the Berlin. Nobody does that!!
Where does this pedal go in the pedal chain to sound the best? First? Last? Middle?
That bit at 3:25 or so was so sweet
Hey Andy! In the intro was the delay before or after the sneak attack in the signal chain? thanks
What sorcery is this?
I thought he was playing Cathedral by Van Halen in the beginning...

and now Hermans did the other half of the song in part 2 of this demo :)
Wow, what a cool pedal. Anything similar to this? Just curious for comparison.
is there a reason we haven't seen Andy touring with some international act yet? would miss his perfect demos but come on !!!
Is this pedal true bypass? I've googled around, but don't see any mention of the bypass circuit.
Came to hear andy play
Did you run the Sloikka into this or after it?
S.E.C.O.N.D
What's the tune at 2:47? Great stuff there.
Cue: Van Halen's 'Dancing in the Streets'
Cathedral by EVH in the beginning? :)
Was that Berlin?!?!

Bill Kilmer It was! Thank you, I knew I recognized it but couldn't remember who sang it. Riding on the metro oooooo oooh!
I'm alone, sitting with my broken glass...
ohhhh can it do transient designing? (enhance attack)
Iron Maiden tribute bands would be all over that pedal to play "Moon child" live.

Yeah, took me a longer than I thought it would to recognize it. Never would have expected to hear that song on a guitar pedal demo, but Andy has surprised me before.
PGS. Have you played it with bass? Any reason they wouldn't work together?
@happygoloopyrocks

They use it in the intro
Where should something like this or the Slow Engine go in the chain? I would think at the same point as a volume pedal...either the beginning or the end depending on your goal?
@harrysouter2304

Definitely after distortion , but before delays and reverbs . After everything else , and if you're using a gain amp , put it in the loop
@dwightpeters

Depends on what effect you want. If you want swells, put it before gain just like a volume pedal.
I thought that was very Led Zeppelin at the end with your magic Les Paul.
I don't need a keyboard player!
Malekko is the sort of company that has the right ideas (the most important thing - new ideas!), the right approach and design, their pedals are easy enough to operate and still there's that little something that's in the lacking, usability-wise, that they are still to crack. This is where EHX shines. I've been a fan of Malekko for years but never bought any of their pedals. I hope that will change in the future.

I have the Malekko Omnicron Chorus. it only has two knobs, but I'm powering it with the optional 18v instead of 12v and it is the lushest shimmering chorus pedal I've ever used, and I still have an EHX small clone. Plus the pedal is smaller than the small clone so I was able to add a TC electronic flashback to my board.
@SlavSquatSenpai

EHX has nothing on this pedal. It's a solid swell pedal with more extra's that it doesn't even need. If you think they're lacking in something, then what is it?
Isaac Hayes- Walk On By.... that is all.
Curse you, Andy!!! My wallet can't take this abuse.
Should've done "The Pirate Song" by Dweezil Zappa.
I can confirm this pedal is true bypass. it uses a logic controlled relay bypass.
It just dawned on me that one could use Tremelo instead of a metronome for practicing.
Blues Saraceno
First song???
I've had 3 Malekko pedals but though they sounded good, I had to sell all three as they had more tone suck than any other brand pedals I've bought. Pity
F.I.R.S.T.!

True. I just like the certainty of being able to dial in the bpm. Assuming the band is playing to a click, it's so locked in.
@rybakryoshi1443

you just need to tap the bpm of the song with your feet
@TheGuitarBling
8 жыл бұрын
Okay. Apparently my comment needs more explanation. I'm basing my comment on my experience playing with very rhythmic U2ish delays and playing at church (we always use a click). I used to just use a tap tempo and I felt like that was good enough. Than a friend suggested I put in the bpm (I was using a dd-20 so that was no problem). It changed my life. No matter how much I tapped the tempo I couldn't get it as locked in as I could if I can put in the bpm. It's another level. Now I can't go back. If I'm playing with a band that isn't using a click then tap tempo is fine, but if there's a click track (for me 90% of the time there is), than there is nothing like being able to dial in the bpm. Hope that explains where I'm coming from.
so Pink Floyd....
Andy makes it sound good but kind of a one trick pony
@MrDonc78
8 жыл бұрын
he's getting a lot of sounds out of this in the same manner you would with any single effector pedal... tap tremolo and auto swell are two different effects, so that's a two trick pony already 😂
Damn man, people need to find better guitarists for pedal demos
Just bought an EHX Super Pulsar - way more versatile and stereo in/out, sorry Melekko as the other comments point out this is a one trick pony - of course Andy makes everything sound cool
I guess you can get creative with it, but it's still very much much a one trick pony. The name is pretty clever though :)
Sorry, but this is a very poor demo of this pedal. I should know, I own one and I love it! 😜

Since you own/ed the pedal, I was wondering if it HAS to use the Lil Buddy or if it can use any TRS expression tap tempo. :)
