I'm not even Indian and it kinda pisses me off to think how elected govt officials behave this way towards foreigners. I planned a 2-week vacation in Maldives after seeing a lot of great reviews online. This changed my mind after seeing this racist remark shown towards outsiders and now I booked my tickets to spend my time in Sri Lanka rather than Maldives. I don't plan on encouraging xenophobes and racists by giving them my hard earned money.

To all those indians that think not visiting the Maldives will somehow cause their economy to suffer, remember indians only make up 11% of visitors to the Maldives, and indians don't spend anywhere near as much as other visitors so only contribute less then 6% of total tourism revenue in the Maldives. I'm sure the Maldives can mange not having indians coming to their islands. They can now also get rid of all those indian workers working in their hotels too.

One of my friends was also planning to visit Maldives , but after this controversy he cancelled alll his trips and bookings

We group of 20 people planned to explore Maldives in February this year... But we've right away cancelled our trip after coming to know the racist comments made by Maldives minister on Indians.Now we Will explore lakshadweep later in this year...Im more than Happy to support our Lakshadweep Muslim brothers and sisters by boosting their business. I haven't travelled much but my friend who has travelled to both Maldives and Lakshadeep said Lakshadeep is worth the money whereas she found Maldives extremely expensive and not worth it. We should all plan our trip to Lakshadweep instead of Maldives because I’m convinced we would get respect and better treatment from there😊

I think it’s high time we Indians recognise and cherish the treasure that our dearest country has to offer to us. A huge respect for all those who cancelled their Maldives vacation. They should instead go to Andaman & Nicobar or Lakshadweep. Our country is a gem. However, it will remain a gem when we as citizens of this incredible India start appreciating and feeling proud of our own homeland. If at the end it’s all about spending money for a vacation, spend it in one’s own country rather than boosting tourism of other countries who aren’t even thankful for it. Foolish, all…those who actually ‘cancelled’ their trips. Perhaps few did cancel, SURELY not out of patriotism, but a sense “what may happen as a backlash to the negative remarks made by their politician” when they are actually there!

I am from Singapore, Cancelling my plan to visit Maldives on June. Rather I go to Lakshadeew or Thailand.

Almost 70 percent of their tourism is celebrities and influencers and the promotion they get from them.

Actually, India is not even a party to the perennial unresolvable conflict between Yehovites and Muslims in Europe and Arabia. So, the ethnophobist references made by Maldivian minister Ms Mariyam are totally out of place. Besides, it is a fact that any initiative for developing infrastructure and economic upliftment in Lakshadweep by Indian government is part and parcel of its wider domestic responsibility towards emancipation of all geographical realms of India, and is in no way calculated to deliberately harm Maldives', economy. It is however, only natural that most Indian tourists will swap Maldives for Lakshadwip given the choice, because Indians are spendthrifts by cultural mooring and are not happy with the exorbitant prices at hotels in Maldives which are owned by European multinational hospitality chains. But the economy of Maldives will have little to lose if at all, on account of this transition, because in any event European hotelier chains which have monopolised the hospitality industry there and parasitized Maldivian economy, recycle only a miniscule fraction of their phenomenal profits into Maldivian economy and siphon off the test into their financial bastions in the western hemisphere. So, any misapprehensions about adverse impact on Maldivian economy from the emergence of Lakshadwip as a competitor are totally misplaced and ill-conceived. However, many sensible Indians have canceled or suspended plans for vacationing in the Maldives because Maryam's umcharitable and I'll-meaning remarks have unfolded undercurrents of jihadist hatred towards India in Maldivian society, putting Indian tourists at potential risk from vengeful retributions for happenings in Israel and Arabia. Sensible tour operators in India have issued appropriate travel advisories and stopped bookings for destinations Maldives.......

We wanted to visit lakshadweep since our trip to Andaman (which was truly amazing tbh) but flights are not available from most places.. maybe now, we will have better travelling options there.. would love to go asap

Since I started earning and saving money I dreamt of going on foreign vacations. But thanks to some VLoggers I came to know so many beautiful places in India and I visited there. Kurseong in WB, Kotgarh in HP, there are so many places of India in my bucket My list has all Indian places now
