Malcolm X Interview | Black Nationalism | Lunatic "Uncle Sam" | Split With NOI | England | July 1964

July 23 1964.
Footage of an interview with Malcolm X (1925-1965) while on a visit to England in July 1964.
It was soon after his split from the Nation of Islam (NOI) led by Elijah Muhammad. Here Malcolm speaks about Black Nationalism and Cassius Clay, the world heavyweight boxing champion. He also denied being on the "lunatic fringe" of politics, retorting that America's denial of citizenship to 22 million Blacks while representing itself as the leader of the free world and democracy was itself a form of "collective lunacy".
Malcolm X, who subsequently took the name Malik el-Shabazz, was assassinated at the Audubon Ballroom in Harlem, New York City on February 21, 1965.

I wrote the following review of the late Manning Marable's biography "Malcolm X: A Life of Reinvention" which was published in 2011.
