On this day in 1957 the Federation of Malaya gained independence from Great Britain. Here is Movietone’s report on preparations for the celebrations.
All the major buildings in Kuala Lumpur have been given a face-lift before the celebrations marking the Independence of the Federation of Malaya. It will be proclaimed on August 31st in the magnificent new stadium. Parades and sporting events are to follow the formal ceremonies which will spotlight Malaya as the world's newest Independent country.
