Makye Ame Restaurant: where you can not only fill your stomach but also meet love in Tibet

Tashi Delek!
Makye Ame, the most famous restaurant in Lhasa Tibet, was named after the lady Makye Ame, who was the lover of Tsanyang Gyatso (the 6th Dalai Lama).
It is located in Barkhor Street at the center of Lhasa old town. It is said that Tsanyang Gyatso always slipped out of the Potala Palace at night and came here to meet his lover, lady Makyi Ame.
Tourists from all over the world come to this restaurant not only for delicious Tibetan food but also for the love story of Tsanyang Gyatso, like the beautiful girl I met there.
She knew the love story of Tsanyang Gyatso and Makye Ame and visited here during her Tibet tour.
“It’s not that easy to find a love,” she said.
Yes, it is. It is neither easy to find a lover nor to have a happy ending with the lover, just like the sad ending of Tsanyang Gyatso and Makye Ame’s love story.
I wish all of you who come to Tibet have a happy ending with the one you love. And don’t miss the chance to have a seat in Makye Ame, to enjoy the authentic Tibetan food and the same Potala Palace outside the window as Tsanyang Gyatso did back then.
Important Tip for Having a Meal in Makye Ame:
Please make a reservation in advance, or you may have to wait for hours at mealtime.

Oh my god this is by far one of the best KZread videos of Lhasa, Tibet. I had a goosebump the whole time watching, listening and reading. It was truly an awwww struck moment seeing the streets of Lhasa. I live in US but I always dream of going back to the place where my grandparents lived once. It gave me the feeling of ‘Yes this is my real land and my people’. I will definitely visit Lhasa someday, hoping soon and definitely that famous restaurant. I wanna walk in the streets of Bharko and sit near Jhokhang temple whole day praying and meditating. I wanna see Potala palace with my naked eyes, not just from pictures or videos etc. Once again thank you so much for the video.

@@alee2204 How so “betrayed”? If you are going to give me OvErsEaS TiBeTaNs ArE SlaVE OwNeR then stop there and then. The people came first, second and third wave from Tibet were 99.9% were normal citizen. You can see in the statistics they were illiterate and if you talk to which they are tons of interviews of their life back in Tibet they are mostly from farming and nomadic background. FYI there are different kinds of Tibetan informal and formal and guess what most Tibetan who came from Tibet spoke the informal Tibetan spoken among layman. If they were slave owners then they would have been educated and would be Posh Tibetan speaking which they weren’t. Also, oversea Tibetans have heavy presence of recent arrivals from Tibet who have seen everything in Tibet. Many of them have first hand experiences of being oppressed by the outsiders. Standing for fellow ethnic Tibetans isn’t betrayal but it sure is betrayal for the colonials.
