MAKITA HEATED VEST REVIEW - great or gimmick?

Fed up of Gary complaining about the cold in the workshop Joe suggested we try a Makita heated vest. They arrived just as the snow fell around the workshop. It's the first time we've ever tried a heated jacket - are they a gimmick like some of the other Makita bonkers products or a useful addition to your site gear?
Who makes the best heated jacket? Have you tried the alternatives from Milwaukee, Metabo or Bosch? Let us know your thoughts.

Nice to see it called a body warmer rather than the knobs who like to call it a gillet . looks a good bit of kit, shame it was made for plumbers , needs a DeWalt adaptor. good job that wasn't an iPhone in Gordons top pocket, it would have knocked out his pacemaker :) .. certainly looked like Foggy and Compo up on the moors .. good video lads

It's a great idea from Makita, Shame I went the Dewalt route. No doubt they will bring something out similar in the future or get a battery converter. Looking at the battery connector I'd rather clip it to my belt, has to be comfier than the weight of a battery pulling at the back of the gilet has to be uncomfy for prolonged wearing?

Hi, i have bought this jacket also a few years ago. It has the LXT adapter. I have as a motorrider a lot of experience with electrical heated gear. When i stack all my Makita stuff up it measures more then 2 meters. So yes, i am a Makita fan. But this jacket is not great. Not great at all. When you look f.e. at a Gerbings heated jacket it has been completely wired everywhere. Also in the collar. And it becomes atleast 500 percent warmer then the Makita jacket. It only has a few heating pads. The same heating pads that you can buy at Wish for a couple of Euro's. It also comes with five pads that are all connected with a push button switch. And has an USB A connector. So you can power that with a powerbank. So my main thought is that the adapter only gives 5 volts out to the heating pads instead of 12 volt. What i do not get is why Makita did not just leave the USB connecter connected. And instead created a different connector on their LXT adapter. As wel on their other electrical heated products. Everybody has USB cables. It could be that Makita did go this route so they could hide the fact that it is only five volts. And that those Chinese heating pads are very very cheap. The jacket on its own costs maybe 20 bucks. The heating pads only 5 bucks. And they are selling it for 180.00 Euro's. For me Makita should have made a deal with a company like Gerbing. Then they could have made a good product. So a hard working carpenter who is all they out in the cold could have really benefitted from a good product. And offcourse all his ather collegues also. Imagine all they being outside in the cold trying to earn a few bucks for the family. Those hardworking guys should have been presented a really goodworking product. Also electrical heated insoles. Working all day in rubber boots while making wooden structures for the concrete. Within an hour they have freezing cold feet. Some good working electrical heated insoles would be heaven for those guys. They have to endure a lot of hardship at a buildingsite. More then people know. Because people do not give that any thought. Could you measure the outgoing voltage from the black connector of the LXT adapter guys ? And do a search on Wish for heating pads. Then you will instantly see what i am telling about. I think that the electrical heated jacket from Makita also can be powered by just a powerbank. The heating pads at the first place were created for that. And a light and smaller powerbank would also be much more comfortable then f.e. a heavy BL1850 or BL1850 battery. The real purpose of the electrical heated Makita jacket should have been for the construction working. So that he or she could stay warm while being in a hars and cold environment. And also to take away the need for a large, bulky and heavy jacket in winter. Staying warm in winter uses a lot of internal energy. With good electrical heated clothing that hardworking construction worker could save some of that energy. So he would not be falling apart just after he had dinner in the evening. People who work through the day in cold weather know what i am talking about. Normally honor is written in every Japanese handbook. With their electrical heated products Makita simply failed their customers. I have to say that my job is selling this stuff to people. And if they are interested in any of this gear i tell customers the honest story. And i also tell them about Gerbing products. Although i can not sell that to them. But i am still happy to give them advise. Because with that they have a decent heated jacket and also warm feet. I do not like it to sell crappy products. Not from Makita, Metabo, Hikoki, Milwauke or Bosch. A construction working does not earn a lot. And what they earn is for their family. So i do not like it to rip them from their hard earned cash. While their are other good and products out there. Even if i am not able to sell that. I will give them advise and what to keep in consideration. And also where to go. In the end of the day i have happy customers and they keep coming back for many years. Makita now sells an electricall heated blanket. And believe it or not. It only has one heating pad in the upper side. A customer thinks that he or she is buying a completely other product then what they have in their mind. And legally Makita is on the good side with what they are telling. It is an electricall heated blanket. But only a few cm2'ters is heated. Nothing more. You could buy a decent blanket of your liking. Then go to Wish for a heated pad that only costs you five dollars. Sew it in the blanket. And use a powerbank to power it. Then you are ready for a totall cost of maybe 20 dollars ? You could also buy a few heating pads and run that at several places of your blanket. And with that have a much better product that will function the way you need it to function. Also a very good gift for the elderly people in your surroundings who can not pay the energy bill anymore.
