Makita DUC254z review - sycamore pruning

Ойын-сауық

A raise and thin on a sycamore, using pruning saw and Makita DUC254z single 18v battery makita top handle chainsaw. This saw is great for what it is designed for.
You’ll notice I didn’t have a strop on the chainsaw. This is not the way I do things. I have never not used one Whilst using rope and harness actually... stupidly I forgot the strop that day. Had to make do

Just ordered one with five batteries, plus a split shaft pruner and motor unit for one battery plus an extension - an electric version of my stihl petrol setup !

Thumbs up. Did you have to use another battery? That looked like a good bit of cutting. Good video.

Can you comment on why you do a staggered double cut? One lower halfway, and one 4cm above from the opposite side… I imagine that is so the branch doesn’t fall by itself, and you have to manually break it?

Do you do tree work? It’s called a “step cut” it’s designed to generally hold until you can break it off and either push it in the right direction or to break it off into your grasp and throw the piece where you want it. You would also use the step cut to cut branches/timber that are just being cut and letting them fall to the ground themselves. A step cut like all types of cuts are designed to stop the timber from tearing, the saw being taken with the wood falling and for directional purposes. Step cut being one of the most simple yet a must for most cutting!

Great vid. Been climbing for a good few years now and considering getting one of these. What sort of price did you pay for it? Thanks

I appreciate the quick reply. Yeh i just bought a makita hammer driver drill and it came with two 18v batts and charger for around 140 quid so this is a no brainer for me!

Hard to say as it really depends on what you are cutting! With the odd we cut, say doing actual larger pruning and it there to just replace a pruning saw it would last for ages. Doing small dismantles or de-limbing lots of branches it runs out Quick! I have 5 makita batteries so not a problem for me 👌
