Tip: heat the flange up with a torch. This make taking those crack pipes out much easier.

I finally ran my new Makita 7900 this last weekend...found my tri-mix gas for the MIG welder to get my muffler back together. Think it was 0.023" stainless wire. Ground off perhaps 1.5 sides of the muffler then knocked it apart. Just a few minutes to get apart then the seam welded together easily with the MIG welding. Used a 1/8" carbide bur to at least double the outlet area under the deflector. Saw sounds pretty good but still a bit rich. I'll order a new Zama carb to play with and some micro drills. Sounds like carb mods are a good way to boost torque on these saws.

Great video! The most detailed video on Makita chainsaw muffler mod on YT. I recently bought and own 7300 and 7900. Both are of that same design. Most videos are short and brief not detailed.

If you get a wire welder it's worth it to get the gas setup...it makes a cleaner weld in my experience

Build a pipe muffler for my 372 Wes and I'll come buy it off of ya. Idk if you have time or want too but can you recommend someone that can. I'd love to have the kind of muffler on my 372xp that was on that Timberwolf.

@@dentondunn4346 the ebay pipe im talking about is just like the on the timber wolf and that style of pipe shows an increase in power dyno joe has a couple vids on different pipes and he has a dyno for saws and he shows numbers the ones on ebay are like 89 buck i think its pretty reasonable

@@MitchellsBackyardLogging definitely reasonable if they give power gains instead of noise. There's alot of science in those pipes. Some gain power at higher rpms and some more torque at lower rpms. I may find someone local to weld me one that's based on Ironhorses dementions. He has a video explaining in detail exactly how to make it down to the length and size of pipes that's gaurenteed to get the best performance out of the pipe muffler. Guy I'm messaging with just told me he'd make me one. I talked with him about it at work today so guess I'm going that route. As many people that's wanting those style pipes you'd think people would be making them and selling them cause there's a market for it out there
