It does the job, Especially for the price. It’s not that powerful even for basic Bahia sod. But I will say I have zero issues if I stay on top of my lawn/weed trimming bi weekly during the summer down here in Cape Coral FL. The grass grows crazy fast during summer humidity, like if I put it off another week (3 weeks) to trim then itll take ALOT LONGER like over an hour longer and will need to use 3 = 5.0ah battery’s compared to using only 2. I’ll eventually buy the stronger real weedwacker version that takes the two 18V battery’s at a time. My opinion it’s 1000% worth it if your a contractor that already owns the Makita tools. For only $330 bucks you can’t beat this setup. Got mine at HomeDepot for $329 came with weedwacker, battery, battery charger & THE Blower which is the main reason I bought it so I could avoid sweeping my job sites and now just use blower to clean out jobs👍

I worked for a Parks and Recreation department for 30 yeas, so I'm familiar with all the string trimmers from the early 70's till into the early 2000's. I have the Milwaukee QUIK-LOK trimmer kit. I've only had it for a few weeks but it has been great. It's $100 more expensive if you buy it buy itself, but if you buy it in a bundle with an extra attachment, like the edger, it brings the cost down at least $100 (some attachments are valued higher). I have all the attachments but have only used the trimmer and edger. They both work very well. The Milwaukee power head has a "high" and "low" setting. It has plenty of power on even the low setting. On high it's as powerful as a gas trimmer but burns through the battery faster. And the kit comes with an 8.0 "High Output" (new 21700 lithium ion cells) battery that is supposed to deliver more power than the old 18650 cells.

Thank you! I was searching for a video on how to reload the string since I'm left handed and manage to forget and wind things the wrong way. I'm the mom of three grown children and was looking for a light string trimmer. I have lots of 18v Makita tools so this was perfect. I got it in a pack with the blower, a charger and one battery. The blower is even better! I edged a long driveway this weekend and it took less than 30 minutes. I agree about loading the string. I tried the Echo Speed Feed head and I couldn't get it to fit, even though it lists Makita on the package. SMH.

It does have a variable speed trigger, 3 power settings, and is made to accept all of the attachments in the Couple Shaft line. I love the ease of loading the string. While not as easy of the auto feed version, I find it'll be a lot easier than this Makita. The only down side with the EGO where this Makita shines is weight. None of the Stihl trimmers use this head design, you feed the spool by twisting it in place (no disassembly). You must be thinking of another brand. Referring to the Makita this is a Japanese market model and I think they prefer to equip this trimmer with the saw blade, not the string head so that may explain the basic design.

Is Ego closing down in Canada and or in the States ? I have been trying to purchase Ego products in Toronto for the past two months but nobody has any Ego . No on line products available and hardly any Ego products for sale at Lowes. As of today Lowes does not even have any Ego trimmers, Any attachment and only has one battery available for sale. All other mowers brands went on sale at Lowes over a month ago. Also in January I went to Lowes to buy an Ego snow blower and they had ZERO EGO PRODUCTS FOR SALE and neither did Home Debot ?????????????

I agree 100% with complaints re low power and frustration of string loading. But you didn't say anything about the 'string advance" feature... or lack thereof. This is a 'bump advance' and it just doesn't work!! I have to manually unwind additional line. For that reason it has to go back. (I'm watching videos to see if I am missing some trick re string advance!)

I wanted something light weight and capable of cutting. This little string trimmer is just that kzread.infoUgkx_rBCFuDW1zD6blTGhLkvAkxU657uR_lG . The battery will last about half an hour. It cuts through most weeds and grass. I wanted to see what this trimmer could do and tried cutting down some brush. It does okay with light brush but heavy brush, not so much. This is a great tool for trimming around the yard. It's not great for clearing out brush but no one would expect it to be.Out of the box, this trimmer is extremely easy to use. All I had to do was attach the guard and load the battery.

Kite Army... let’s have a battle of the string trimmers, Centennial Style. One side, EGO with their carbon shaft & multitool “autoloaders”, on the other side all those “musket style” (manual wind to load) trimmers. The battle field 100 yards? the winner? Whoever wacks cross the 50 first. Of course, there will be full period kit, a drummer, flutist & flag bearers for a “Reenactment theme”. Date? July 4th 🇺🇸.. Side A most likely will have this flag 🇨🇳 (made in PRC)...wait, maybe both sides will have 🇨🇳... this isn’t going to work is it? Forget the flags. Green vs Blue...

One thing that might be valuable is to know what ecosystem this is ‘open’. Husqvarna and Tijl offer proprietary systems for multi tool accessories, same as EGo. However, Husky gas operated units have ONE exception; the Husqvarna 128HD, lets em play it on “both sidesl Universal connection, the 128LD Gas Multi-tool accepts accessories from Ryobi (gas & electric) Trimmer Plus, Worx, Black & Decker, Craftsman, and anything else ***Universal. As it’s available in Lowe’s and Rona in Canada as well as Canadian tire I would’ve thought it had been obsolete by now but it’s running red hot because of this***.It might be worth mentioning in determining if any electric battery operated trimmer’s run on the same eco system.

Makita are disgraceful the way they deal with recalls. I’ll never buy a Makita product again because of the way they dealt with my situation. I bought a Makita line trimmer. I used it a handful of times, 5 at most, until I realised it was defective a couple of years later and found there was a recall notice on it. I took it back to have it ‘repaired’ by a Makita authorised repairer. After I got it back, I spent months trying to get it working without any success, then just started borrowing line trimmers from friends and family. I tried to get it going again this year and took it to a Makita service centre at Keilor Park in October and they said an angle grinder had been taken to it and that's why it’s not working. I dealt with a donkey national service manager who just had a good laugh at my predicament and suggested I did the damage - brilliant customer service! Other donkeys I dealt with at this place didn't have much of a clue either. My advice is to avoid Makita products.
