Making Your Stormtrooper Helmet Fit Better

This video is dedicated to Damien Metz of Las Vegas, Nevada who started the Neon City Garrison. He passed away on June 14, 2020, just a day after I taped this video. My Stormtrooper TK costume has been in the works since 2011 and after watching this video, you'll know why it has taken me so long. I hope you enjoy my video. As always, please give me a "thumbs up", make some comments, subscribe and share! May the Force be with you! If you would like to help Damien’s family for funeral costs, here’s a link: donate/18542...

It's amazing how a movie like that impacted so many of us. I don't think there is anything as inspiring and it will keep inspiring for future generations.

I felt connected to your experience watching Star Wars for the first time. It was on the original release VHS set, and I remember using one of those rewind machines to rewatch it. The bad guys were my favorite part too! Thank you for sharing your memories! May the force be with you 🖤

Thanks for the comment! Star Wars is quite amazing for having been around for so long and still having an influence on generations of viewers. Now it’s spread through books and games. Do you cosplay as a stormtrooper?

@@SuganoPro Currently, I am just a huge Star Wars nerd/fan. But I just purchased the Black Series Shadow Trooper helmet. So your video is very helpful with adding the padding. Maybe one day I will be a full-fledged Stormtrooper 🙌🏽

@@shantrooper Awesome! Good luck! The little foam pads weren’t quite enough. I have an old memory foam mattress that I am considering to cut and make a custom pad for the interior of my helmet. I want it to be somewhat snug, but need to make sure it won’t be super hot while wearing.

Your experience is almost , to the tee, the same as mine. I saw Star wars in 1977 (I too was 7 years old) at the mall in San Jose, CA. My jaw was on the floor for the entire movie and fell in love with the Stormtroopers and Darth Vader (mostly the strom troopers ;) ). I promised myself that I would get a Stormtrooper suit when I grew up, but life got in the way. I did however, bukld a modest collect of figures and vehicles through out my life. I recently purchased my own suit and am. in the process of building it. Thank you for the video, it helped.

Thank you so much for the comment! I love that story. My armor STILL is not complete after all these years. I borrowed other people's armor for the events I was in. Haven't done any events since then, but that's okay. I just love having a real Stormtrooper helmet! If you watch my latest offroad video, you'll see a "rugby helmet" I found on Amazon. It actually works great in conjunction with these little pads! Everyone's head is shaped differently, so I hope you found something that works. Also in that offroad video, you can see my other helmets: Mandalorian, Tank Trooper and Shore/AT-ACT Driver.

Cool vid.....I have those hovi tips on my helmet and they work great...highly recommend. Only problem I have is my helmet is a black series and it's a tight fit with the cushion and pieces for the hovi tip speakers.....I want to get another trooper helmet soon and transfer everything into that. Would love to find more info about joining a troop possibly, sounds like a lot of fun!

Thank you so much for watching! I still have not finished my set of armor believe it or not. Still too fat for it. Ha ha ha. I have since found a different solution for the helmets to fit better, and I have also acquired 3 more helmets! I really need to shoot some new videos about them. I now have a Mandalorian helmet, AT-ACT Driver helmet, and a Tank Trooper Helmet along with a full set of armor for the Tank Trooper/AT-ACT Driver. Thanks to you, I think it has motivated me to shoot new videos for that. Have an awesome day!

Thanks for watching! Sorry for the late reply. Yes, I have seen how great EVA foam pieces look! If I ever get myself a bit thinner (lose weight), I will get my set of armor done and consider doing EVA foam for the legs and waist pieces. Since I was borrowing someone else's armor for the Weird Al concerts, it was very difficult to walk or bend my arms. Everything was built for someone slightly taller than me. Ha ha!

The pieces I reference in this video worked okay. But I removed the entire lining of the Stormtrooper helmet, so it was very loose with these pads. So I ended up purchasing these rugby helmets. But the rugby helmet will work best if you don’t have any padding in the helmet to begin with. So start with the smaller pad sections to see if that helps. Right now, they are about $10. I'm making my storm trooper costume with eva foam sheets because it feels alot more comfortable because if I'm drawing a percofic shoe I cut it out and draw it 3 times and stick it together I've got a piece of armor and thats basically how I do my starwars costumes, it's a massive hobby of mine. So far I have done an ESB stormtrooper, and ESB Boba fett and I have done a shadow trooper costume.

@@SuganoPro well yes it is more comfortable because ABS is OK but then again it digs into your skin when you got the under suit on .so that is why eva foam sheets it's good to buy and that way your not spending thousands of pounds on ABS armor where eva foam sheets are more cheaper. Plus it's a hobb y of mine.i love making starwars costumes.

Hey, nice and useful video. Only one small thing stands out: the eyebrow should not collide with the ears, it is a little too long compared to the original helmets. Just a kind note if you want to make the helmet even better

Thanks for watching and for the tip! A friend helped me put this together more than 10 years ago. He was a member of the 501st and made that particular recommendation. However, there is another issue with my bucket...the blue lines aren't the same on both sides. The pieces didn't line up properly, so there are more visible blue lines on one side. Ha ha ha! I STILL don't have the rest of the armor built.

Good vid 👍 I saw people asking what the helmet is - That's known as a GT/FX helmet... One of the original helmets but not hugely accurate as it was fan made... Main thing is the Hovi mic tips are wrong and the size is approximately 20% too big... I have one and I like it but compared to others I have that are more screen accurate (buy from people on the "whitearmor" fan forum NEVER from eBay!) It's clearly not the best. As far as I know it's still approved by the 501st for trooping though 🙂

Good info. This kit was purchased in 2012 by my friend who was the Neon Garrison leader in Las Vegas. He had helped many troopers acquire their armor sets and was also a robot builder having built a fully functioning R2 unit. Personally, I didn’t have aspirations to join the 501st, I just wanted to have Stormtrooper armor that was better than the horrible Rubie’s costume that was out there. My bucket had some manufacturing flaws as you can see from the side where the “ear” pieces didn’t fit flush with the main sections. Also, the front half and the back half didn’t fit together like it was supposed to, causing the top part to be a bit off. If I get another set of armor, it would have to be a biker scout kit.
