Making Use of Plastic Sprues & Frames | The Benfits of a Bits Box | Hobby Gaming for Beginners
Ойындар
Always Board Never Boring was sat at his desk doing a bit of painting when he was suddenly struck with the idea to make a short video about bits boxes, and various uses for plastic miniatures sprues and frames. This is a video aimed at beginners, but it would be great if the hobby pros who decide to watch added some of their own tips in the comments. What is the absolute best thing to do with a plastic sprue?

I've made the skeleton of a tree and a bush just by glue some odd lengths of sprue together and then heating it over a tea candle for 15 seconds to twist and warp them a bit. Sort of a quick and easy objective marker
Some more uses for sprues: 1. Snipe off small lengths of them at various angles and stick them upright on bases to act as either crystals or metal palisades. 2. Use them for experimenting with paint schemes 3. Make proxy infantry out of them and play a few games to see if your new army idea is actually fun before you commit and buy the models

Crystals is a really good one. A few stuck on a base would be good objective markers. Thanks for sharing.

@@AlwaysBoardNeverBoring I learned that trick from a youtuber called Heroes & Bosses. Look up his Blackstone Fortress Base video for how he painted his
Bits of sprue can also be cut down or shaved to be dissolved by plastic glue to make a gap filling slurry. Just be advised that it doesn't keep forever and will eventually just form a solid lump of plastic.

What would you estimate it's shelf life?. Obviously I understand the type of container, seal and amount all play a part but just after your experience
Hey man, i really appreciate the videos that you put out, they’re really helpful!

Thank you. I'm glad you're finding them useful.
I have been using square sprues for making little bricks. My round ones get used for kinked pipe arrangements. Also you can melt them down with acetone to make stuff
How I recently used sprues: I cut them up into small regtangular bits that I then glued together into a small brick baricade.
Rounded sprues are great for roll bars on vehicles or even fenders. Sharpened and shaped for extra spikey bits on Tyranids, Orks, Chaos, whatever. You can never have too many spikes. I've made combat daggers for my Scouts too.

"You can never have too many spikes" should be GW's slogan. There's some great ideas there. Roll bars for vehicles is particularly good. I'm currently using round sprues in my HeroQuest restoration.
I use mine when magnetising sometimes you need a support on the inside to support the magnet. Sprue is perfect.

That's a nifty idea.
I've been a fan of finding uses for spare Sprue. This was the first time I've seen that kind of barricade. thanks for that! i usually just use them to make frames for houses or make sprue goo.

Thanks for watching. Sprues are so useful. It’s always interesting finding something new to do with them.
I cut odd bits and use them as shaker mixing "balls" inside paint pots. This works well for dropper bottles that balls generally don't work in. I also save all the tabs and clippings from metal mins so i can melt them down when casting.

I usually use bits of metal tabs or very small metal nuts as agitators. Never thought to use bits of sprues. I guess I assumed they wouldn't be heavy enough. Good tip.

You can also dissolve these in acetone and gasoline for.....reasons.

I think the FBI like to talk to anybody doing this on any kind of scale though.
I literally cut mine in to fine squares to look like bricks and build some brick ruins..if you have that kind of patience😅

I absolutely wouldn't have the patience for that, but I bet it looks great when you're done.
I make briks for the bases and fences. I use them for reinforcing cardboard terrain too. By the Way i have to thank You for Rangers of shadow deep review. I will start campaign soon and i'm in love for Airborne of Shadow deep - fan made module in 2WW with cthulhu. Thanks again.

Reinforcing card stuff is a great tip. I'm glad you found the Rangers review useful. I have a few more miniatures to paint for my new team and then I will probably have a go at filming the first scenario. I'm creating a very narrative team with inbuilt problems that I hope will make for an interesting game.
Round sprues are great for scaffolding. :)

Glad I stored some of it! No idea what for, but better save it than regret! I think I'm going to start by doing that cover for BF!

That's an interesting idea. I've got an Aeronautica sprue here that has a nice arch to it, and I can absolutely imagine that as the starting point for a ruined chapel or something like that.
Need to fill the slot in a slotta base? You'll usually be able to find a piece of sprue that fits.

Good afternoon, I'm half way through putting together my 17 Orks starter box and had I not of watched this video, I would of put all the left overs into the recycling bin, as I've always done. Well now I'll still do that, but it will be MY recycling bin for 40K instead which I have just started as a newbie, so that when I want a break from Blackstone Fortress I can carry on happily hobbying. Thanks for sharing this :-)

I keep my frames for no special reason. Some times i carve out bitz from it, it sometimes is easier than using greenstuff. But honestly, you can use it for bases, bricks, terrain scrap etc. Not gold, but surely underappreciated.

Yeah. Banner poles and spears and that sort of thing are very easy to carve out of it; and they're great for debris.
