Making the LR4 Sound like a Racecar? Budget Exhaust Mod

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

www.TheLostCauseRanch.com
Today we add a little extra snarl to the LR4. A simple center muffler and resonator delete, replaced with a x pipe.
As you can tell in the video this gave quite the difference to the 5.0 V8 sound level. It has a distinct rasp to it under throttle now with a meatier tone throughout. Cruising off throttle is still comfortable and now balances out the additional wind noise created by the roof too tent and solar panel.

Nice sound! I do actually think to myself "I love the 5 liter in my lr4"... but then I realize I am old AF and I enjoy it being quite. I generally like quite exhaust (in my car also) because I can drive it harder without attracting attention on the roads. Plus long road trips, which is 90%+ of the miles on my LR4, it helps reduce fatigue if things are quite.

I would probably leave the front resonator in if I were to do it again, the only time the noise isn’t completely ideal to me is under heavy engine braking, mainly in a low range/steep downhill situation. I will agree that quiet is nice on long trips though. It isn’t loud enough to disrupt any conversations while driving though so that is nice.

@Robert Cossey , what if I left the 1st resonator? Would the pressure still be effected? Then go back to either 2.25" pipes, 2.75" or 3" pipes. I'm sure pressure is affected either way? 2008 LR3 V8 myself, I took out everything from the cats back, put a Borla pro x muffler and dumped the tailpipes just ahead of the rear diff. Angled them down a touch pointed mostly straight back. That fixed the drone in the cabin on the highway. Sounds incredible, love the blap-blap on downshift, at idle it sounds super mean. Wish it had just a touch more growl on hard acceleration but really like that it’s not so loud at speed. Great video!

Have you tried H-pipe? It will sound really deep and bass. But there should be a couple of mid-sized resonators after H-pipe as it amplifies sound compared to X-pipe that supresses. You still can try it without resonators just for fun.

In simple terms The x or h pipe balances out the exhaust pressure from each bank and creates a Venturi effect and the banks pull from each other. A little more efficient than just straight. Plus it usually cuts drone back compared to straight pipes.
