Making the H&P

In this video I describe the process of converting an Armisport M1842 musket to look like an H&P conversion of an M1840 musket.

I found this to be a super interesting video. I have been looking at the Rifle Shope Palmetto 1842 kit and this video gave me ideas how to address some of the difficult areas of that kit. It also gave me the idea to mill a rear sight base out of a strong magnet for temporary use without affecting the musket.

Excellent information - truly a labor of love. I dont think non-N-SSA folks will understand why you went through all this!

And if they do they should seek treatment at the best facility known to man at Fort Shenandoah.

Fantastic! Lots of work and challenges, and I'm sure lots of cost. But now you have something unique and historical. I am green with envy! Godspeed, I look forward to more videos in the future.

I suppose when it was all said and done I probably spent $1500 on the project. The new Armisport M1842 was about $800, and the CNC breech was about $200. I probably spent another $500 on tools, lock plate, castings, and getting the breech installed on the barrel. If I did another one, I would not go down the casting route and so it could probably be done for $1200 or so.

nice work..I too shoot an H&P in the n ssa. Could you have just had a welder add material to the breach plug and then just file it to fit the 1840 lock?

Unfortunately, N-SSA rules do not allow welding on the breech.

@@fortharmoury4434 you got me thinking, maybe some type of cap in the shape of the hp bolster that could be siver soldered on.. or you could start manufacturing breaches lol..

@@110665 No heat is allowed on the breech as far as N-SSA is concerned. I initially thought to screw or glue some kind of filler to the bottom of the 1842 bolster but that is not enough - the whole front of the bolster needs to grow longer to be the correct shape.
