My aunt had these things hung up all around her house up in Corinth, MS. It seemed like the birds absolutely loved them.

My Grandfather would shake and tap the Gould's like a drummer would drum before cleaning them.It really helps. We use ours for housing for Purple Martin's. We also cut to form out of soda cans a little half moon awning over the hole.Just use some caulking for glue. And put a piece of dowel under the hole for a Perch.Enjoy you videos. Thanks from Mississippi.🐦

Looks Great the birds will be in their glory. !!!Maybe a Tip for you ? Tie the Jute rope through the 2 eye lites so that the rope is tied in a circle. This will allow the birdhouses to SELF LEVEL. This goes for Anything that you Hang so one side is not longer than the other side.I hope I typed this right?

Love the little wire hangers you made! For the health of the baby birds, next time please consider spraying these with very diluted clorox water FIRST to kill the microscopic mold spores then allow to re-dry completely A strong white vinegar would work also but the odor will linger awhile. In our wet NE climate, mine are lucky to last 2 years, but depends on how wet your summer gets too. Love those paint colors! Hope you have lots of baby birds this summer. Tufted Titmouse, Chickadees and Wrens like those feeders

I figured the paint would seal any of that in. I will use the vinegar on the next batch. The biggest problem seems to be cleaning them out at the end of the season so next years birds will reuse them. Hopefully some birds will move in. The bluebirds just started moving in the boxes and are very active now building nests. Thanks for watching.

Thanks for the video, I have a couple follow up questions... 1. Did you ever use the seeds from the inside to plant more? Wondering if the seeds are viable. 2. Anything you would do different now that they've been handing for a couple of seasons?

No, tossed the seeds and decided never to plant them again. They are to light and swing wildly in the winds we get so the birds didn't really like them. Thanks for watching.

They are slow growing so you may want to plant at least 6 seeds to get some larger gourds. Many small ones went in the compost that just needed a longer season.

I am sanding a few gourds I grew last summer right now first time I have ever don’t this . Good video. I noticed some black on the inside of a couple of mine. But still very hard not rotten. Most videos I have watched say a mask and gloves is a must. Is the black dangerous? Also is any type of Sanitation needed or that can be skipped? Also is the paint or rubber skin harmful to the birds? Is there a video of how these houses did? Birds use, did they last a long time? If not painted will they not last very long? Sorry million questions

Birds didn't like them. From what I was told they are not great in windy places like where I live. They blow around too much and scare the birds. Only 2 had nests. I am going to try some gravel for weight this year. Black is probably mold and I don't think it is good for you or the birds. Mine are still in good shape and will go back out soon. Thanks for watching.
