    Very nice. I almost got heart failure watching you machine-tap those 2.5 mm holes. I didn't think it could be done. I really enjoy the small scale work on this channel. And you have reminded me that a V-block is in fact a very nice 45 def setup square. Thanks.

I use a similar set up in my woodshop and stuff is always getting pushed back up into the tubes. Leave them unglued so they can be dumped out.

    Stefan, If I could make one small suggestion. When you chamfer the corners of a thin part with your chamfering tool. If you make a block with square faces say out of Delrin or something it will help you hold the part square and more securely. I always look forward to seeing your videos.

    I noticed gas springs supporting your milling machine head. I presume you added them recently to cut down on the effort required to crank up the head. Do you have any details on sizing and mounting? I also liked your hand tapping method it can yield that extra bit of clearance when one runs out of z height. Keep up the great videos!

  • @MrMa1981

    You are probably my fav precision machinist on YT... a battle with the guy just below me and Oxtoolco. Anyway, knowing the machine's (and human's of course) limits, how these hardened dudes could be geometrically perfect? Do you accept 3-5 microns (1 2 tenth for anoglophony) of error and tolerance, or any sine bars, from cheap and expensive, have a tolerance like that?

  • @robertklein1316
    @robertklein13168 жыл бұрын

    Hi Stefan, Frage? what determined the diameter of the roller. Nice multitasking, but I think the torch should have been in your right hand, but no foul, and no blisters. BTW those wiz wheels don't explode like grenades, you would have to be holding the grinder in your mouth to do damage.

  • @StefanGotteswinter

    @StefanGotteswinter

    8 жыл бұрын

    +Robert Klein The diameter of the rollers doesnt matter, as long as both are the same diameter. Yeah, a lot of people are realy scared about those thin cutoff discs, but if they break, the pieces have very little mass and so dont do a lot of harm...

    Hi mate. Very,very nice again. Putting you nice bars on the shaper, are you not worried that it would be less accurate than let's say grinding them, or is that coming after that?

  • @StefanGotteswinter

    @StefanGotteswinter

    8 жыл бұрын

    +Marcel Timmers Thank you - Yes, they will not anywhere nearly as accurate as they would if they had been ground on a surface grinder - But they are still well within 1/100mm parallelism between the bottom of the rollers and the top surface :)

    Stefan, Great work, great videos! Quick question...where do you get those 'acid brushes' you use for dabbing cutting oil. I have been looking all over, and I can't seem to find a supplier in Europe that sells them for a reasonable price. Importing them from the US, seems a bit over the top... Cheers Patrick

  • @StefanGotteswinter

    +Zander Kale Just by eye, when you move the drill down into the vee you can see if it deflects to one side. If it does, correct slightly and try again until the drill stands in the centre wen touching into the vee.

    Stefan, in the tool post grinding operation, did you have an independant dial indicator mounted on the traverse/compound or were you just using the lathe dials themselves to advance in?

  • @StefanGotteswinter

    @StefanGotteswinter

    8 жыл бұрын

    +Peter Thannhauser No I did it just with the cross slide dial - since I made a new dial and changed the bearings for it it runs so smooth and the movements is precise enough that I dont bother with a dial indicator :)
