Our soaps go through a complete gel. Large batches will naturally gel especially in a wooden mold.
Cold process soap must saponify and harden before unmolding and cutting. Sea Salt Soaps need to be cut sooner, often while still warm. Cold Process Soap must cure for 4-8 weeks before using.

Watching this A, because I love your videos and B, because I need to use the last of my tallow & watching soaping videos gives me that extra little nudge to get going. I always want to soap, it's just getting *started*, lol. Also, realizing your small pitcher is my big pitcher is a weird feeling. One day I'll make large batches like yours. Now is not the time.

Lovely video Holly, discovered you not long again, having started soaping about 3-4 months ago. Made a 50% Pink Clay Salt Bar a couple of days ago, first time ever. Using mini square soap bar silicon moulds for gifting, and also for getting some feedback. Salt bars for soap seem to really fascinate me. I definitely like the hard bar effect. Your recipe is lovely, I think I will try something like your recipe with the peppermint. Thank you for explanations about salt & superfatting in the beginning. You are certainly easy to watch and listen to. 🤩✨

I wasn't able to be in the studio for a couple of weeks so I really got set back. The Honey Vanilla Latte Soap is curing and is currently scheduled to be ready later in September.

I just tried a sea salt soap tonight but I put mine in the single rectangle molds. I hope it turns out. I like your idea with the milk soap though. I just wanted to try it with distilled water first to see if it would seize on me. I used Eucalyptus and spearmint and it smells to good. Just hope it turns out nice like yours :0

Thank you! That movie freaked me out at the time. I tried watching it with my kids last year and we didn't get very far. It was too cheesy. Haha! I am planning this salt soap to be available in the next couple of weeks. I am still trying to nail down a release date.
SO LOVELY!!! I've been wanting to make this but don't know which Peppermint Essential Oils to use ..Do you prefer the Pepperta or the Arvensa ,, because they both smell amazing but the Japanese version has the strongest cooling effect???? Thank you for replying,if you don't mind💗

Hi Holly, thank you for sharing this lovely salt bar making video with us. Question.. whenever I put salt on top of the bars they start to wèep salt water.. is there a way to avoid the salt on top for decoration to stop weeping? Thank you 🥰
@moriversoap

Thank you! I am guessing it's just a humidity issue? I don't have problems with the salt weeping. Maybe someone else will see your comment and have a suggestion.

❤❤❤❤❤ Your sea salt is one of favorites adding peppermint to it, took it over the top for me. I will be orderingsomesoon. 😊😊 Does using the buttermilk instead of goat milk this time change it much compared to how you did in the past? Can't wait, how long before it will be in your shop, I didn't see it listed yrt?😊😊😊❤❤
@moriversoap

Thank you! I don't have any sea salt soaps made yet since I reopened. I hope to start incorporating them very soon. I don't notice a lot of difference between the milks though goat milk tends to add a hint more of a creamy feel.

@moriversoap Sorry, I just saw it was an old video. 😅 Well, you know what I'm looking forward to.
I have been soaping for sometime. I found working with essential oils my batch sometimes becomes soap on a stick. I use the IFRA standards when measuring out my essential oils. I use full water at 38%. My question is how can I stop soap on a stick using essential oil? I normally end up doing FO/EO to stop the soap on a stick.
@moriversoap
Жыл бұрын
Hmmm...are you using them at a general 5% or less or the full approved amount via the IFRA usage rate?
Another nice video Holly I didn't look through all the comments yet but can you tell me a little bit about your buttermilk where do you get it, is it just regular buttermilk that you get at the store can you help me here I'm looking to get a more smoother bar for myself I don't sell my bars. I only make for my family and don't have the time with the farm to sell them or the patients lol

Thank you Michael! I prefer the Kalona Supernaturals version but have used the regular from the grocery store with the same results. That being said, I refuse to use it as a full milk soap (mixing with the lye from frozen) because it always curdles. It's such a pain using it that way.

Holly, do you make a soap for women's feminine areas? Also, I would like to purchase your homes for my friends for Christmas. How early can I purchase it to be fresh still in Dec? Are you going to make Christmas scents this year? Sorry for so many questions. :o)
@moriversoap
Жыл бұрын
Thank you Debbie! I don't make any soaps specifically for that. My soaps will get better with age but eventually the fragrances and color may begin to fade. My 'regular' soaps are available now and probably won't be back before Christmas shopping time. You'd be good to go ahead and get them now as they were made in early July. I typically say use the soaps in a year to retain the best color and fragrance. That being said, many of my customers collect them and start using them at a year or so because of how well soap ages. I am sort of planning on Christmas but I'm also in a transitional phase and just waiting to see if I should go ahead and get them made.
Quick question, do you not have the same regulations we have in the uk when making soaps? Here we have to have our individual recipes certified by a cosmetic chemist and we cannot deviate from that recipe at all. It’s very frustrating and takes away any creativity but it’s the law here. I see so many American soapers trying out different scents and ingredients so I wondered if you are free to do that and are not as restricted as we are. Thanks for the great videos :)
@jja918
Жыл бұрын
We are not restricted like the UK.
@StephanieTX
Жыл бұрын
We do not have those restrictions here in the states. I think they are requirements with the labeling of the soap. I know you have to list the ingredients and the weight of the bar. Also you can only claim it will get you clean.
@moriversoap
Жыл бұрын
Thank you! We definitely don't have the same restrictions here...yet.

As long as it’s not a cosmetic, soap is very loosey goosey in both labeling and contents!
@SeattleDonna206

A bit of history for you. Soapers fled England risking their lives in tiny boats to make soap in full freedom without restrictions. We have never looked back with regret. ~ We ended up fighting on our new lands for freedom in soap making . When we caught those pesky British troops we washed out their mouths with soap. >
Hello! One question from this batch how many bars did you get?? Thank you, have a nice one

Pink salt is not from the sea, it's called Himalayan salt and it's mined from the ground mostly in Pakistan
@moriversoap

That's true. I only used the pink salt on the top for decoration. The salt in the soap was sea salt.
Why couldn't you pour them at night and cut them the next morning?
@michami1979
Жыл бұрын
Salt bars are different to soap bars. They need cutting a couple of hours after making. If left over night they would be too hard and would just crumble due to the salt content.
@moriversoap

The time frame would be too long. I had made these around 11:30am and cut at 8pm. I try to be out of the studio by 5-6pm and usually don't get back up there until 10am due to family responsibilities.
