It's pretty nice to hear a djent guy essentially go "it doesnt matter if it's simple, as long as it sounds cool"

sir olly you are such a sweet and a great teacher....thank u so much for this tutorial.
Great job explaining that in a way that's easy to understand, and for we guitarists watching to relate to the way we already view playing! Made perfect sense.
"because djent" gets me every time...I've watched this a dozen times over the years and it's so wonderful
I just found this dude and monuments and it has awakened my guitar playing that’s been put away for years bc it’s so cool. I love these videos.
This is precious! So many simple and effective ideas condensed in 9min. Amazing!
Yeah, I just do the thing and this godly riff appears, it's simple really Damn
This was actually super fascinating. Interesting to hear how different people approach the writing process and trying to come up with interesting ideas.
I actually never thought to just play out the chords first and then go from there that really helped, thanks!
the editing at 4:33 was phenomenal also great informative video from one of the masters of the art!

This is a great lesson! I love this guy and want to check out his band now.
Great lesson! IMO odd note-groupings and the rhytmic manipulation stand out the most in this riff, keeps it fresh. Please keep providing us mortals these lessons!
This was such an awesome video!
Best instructional video I've seen on this subject
This is super useful and I keep coming back to it
I bought the same iron label 7 string about 6 years ago and just so happened to quit playing music by the time I got it. I am finally getting around to playing it and I am not mad that I got it! I kept it in a nice case and clean all this time. I love the guitar

Some really smart ideas here, thanks!
I saw them 4 weeks ago live in Mexico City and this guy is freaking amazing, he plays awesome and had some "kinda-dancing moves" that keeps you entertained while watching them. All of them are really great, Monuments is such an underrated band.

"It sounds like guitar hero looks" OH SHIT That makes total fucking sense. The whole band seems like real down to earth dudes, I heard you were playing live in London last month on the 9th. I was at Toska's gig next door but you are now on my list to see.

He is such a good educator. Why is this the first video I've seen from him??

@ATthemusician

All you have to do to figure someone's tuning out is look what fret and string they're playing, determine the note, and then count down to see what the open string or 12th fret is.
Love the video and the riff! Struggling to figure out the tuning. Not used to 8 string drop tuning. Can you please tell us what tuning you're using. Going to check your band out! Sounding dope.
