Making Puukko Knife
Ғылым және технология
Not many people around me are interested of what I'm doing , so I decided to share it with the world :D - It's how I make one of my knives , I hope that it's not too terribly filmed and still fun to watch. Cheers

You married elegance with classic. Great result.

What a beautiful piece of craftsmanship! 🤩
I REALLY like the combination of the steel and then the brass against the dark ebony and the beautiful handle. It's really beautiful. I'm amazed how to can take very ordinary looking items and turn them into such beautiful works of art!
Wow, just wow. What a beautiful knife.
again, simply beautiful work. Thank you. J.
Absolutely beautiful knife and sheath. 😃👍🏼
What a beautiful blade! Excellent in all regards.
Great job, simple, beautiful !
You are a humble guy and I really respect that! I suffer from the same problem, not too many people around me, like knives as I do! Υou make very good Puukkos!! Always be hungry for perfection on knife making! Keep it up!

Another amazing knife in one of my favorite steels 80crv2. :) I just wish I could do handles as well as you. Too old and clumsy I guess (me I mean) . :) Keep up the good work.

BRAVO!!!
Your knifemaking is really solid. You clearly master every step of the way. More than I can say about myself, but that's what drives me forward. Also, the place you hate the most is the part I love the most. Brass is my favourite material to work with. But on top of all that, your video editing is brilliant! Good job, mate!

Thanks for the nice comment mate. I have much to learn and to improve but that's the fun :) I also like working with brass , if I had to do this with stainless it would be much more unpleasant :) Brass is more forgiving.

@RustLegion you know, earlier tonight, when I was watching this video while having some evening food before going back out in my workshop, I had just cut a piece of 2,5mm brass for a middle-spacer (don't know the technical term, but for your knife it would be something to put between the ebony and the alder burl, and like a sandwich of different plates, you know what I mean.) And I actually filed out a profile-pattern on the brass plate. I've never done it before, but it was actually quite fun, even though it was a bit hard on the fingers as I don't have a vice yet. But it was not that hard, just a bit time-consuming, and it was very satisfying to see the pattern develop. Also, I forgot to say, that alder burl is beautiful! Is it Scandinavian alder? I have several alder burls from this area in Northern Norway where I live, yet I have never seen a pattern quite like that before.
Well done,looks really beautiful

@@RustLegion Thank you for revealing that. I was so confused, because you said you learned it on KZread. I'm spinning in my brain, trying to figure out this technique. That's good editing, because I didn't catch it.
Love it! Can a person buy one?! Just like this one. How much would you charge? If I had the means and ability to make one myself, I would. This is the kind of knife I would pass onto a loved one, or friend, after I'm gone. We live in a world of quick fixes and immediate gratification. This knife and your other work seems to come from personal due diligence and integrity. I greatly appreciate it. Thanks for the videos...

Hello sir , thank you for the nice comment. Yes I take commissions , If you want - send me an e-mail at dimitarpopov88@yahoo.com and we can discuss the details. Best regards :)
Did you grind the top of the knife to? Like the opposite side of the edge?
@RustLegion
Жыл бұрын
yes I did. At 5:21 you can see the crossection of the blade from the shape of the hole in the bolster. It's like false edge.
I just found your channel. Looking at the beauties you make encouraged me to try making my own puukko. Do you have any suggestions for a person who is familiar with knives, but never made one himself?
@RustLegion
3 жыл бұрын
It is awesome that I encouraged someone to try and make a knife. My advice is to watch some more videos , see what tools you have around you and adapt your process to the tools and workplace you have. You will need a piece of steel from your local knifemaking supply shop (4mm thick 80CrV2 or 1084 would be nice) and a piece of wood. Also a way to harden it. If you give me more info I can give you more directions. Cheers

5:22 how u made that triangle? Just by hammering bolster down with tube onto blade?
@RustLegion
3 жыл бұрын
Hammering until it stops , getting it out and filing a bit then hammering again. And doing this multiple times. I didn't show it because it is very long and boring process, but next bolster I fit , I may make full guide.

Ты это, завязывай с латунным стеклом. А то народ подумает, что так и ножи можно делать. Надрезал, надломил, раз и готово. Инопланетные технологии.🤪
Все хорошо, но зачем такой длинный хвостовик, и такой короткий клинок??
@RustLegion
2 жыл бұрын
Клинок - 10.5 см, хвостовик - 11.5 Если рукоятка короче, то она будет мала для руки владельца, а он хочет лезвие 10,5 см. :)
