Making Paintings Come to Life: Abstract Art

Making Paintings Come to Life.
Thank you for watching my first abstract art painting video.
For this video I wanted to try out something on a large scale. The canvas is 4-foot square (122cm x 122cm) and needs French cleat battening on the back to distribute the weight when hanging. As with all my works I try to design-in a hanging system that results in a painting that hangs flat (but proud) of the wall rather than tilted.
The principle colour choices of red, black and gold give the name of the work. Naming, or to be more precise, not naming the work is huge issue for me. In a nutshell, I don’t want titles or words to interfere with what the viewer sees when they look at the work.
The painting itself, like all of my art, is obviously inspired by Jackson Pollock’s style. That much is all I really want to say about the art itself. To say more feels limiting and wrong to me, but feel free to disagree or let me know what you think in the comments.
My plan is to upload videos each time I make a painting and I’m hoping that will be at least one every couple of weeks.

I migliori auguri, Jim

Excuse me, why do you use exterior and/or iron paint?

Good question. The paint colours are so vibrant - is the answer. However, they are also durable, robust, and easy to work with.

Lovely painting! Why did you add the white spirit? And why just to one pot only?

Thank you. :-) The white spirit was to thin that colour out slightly - it had dried a little in the tin.

Thank you for your kind words - they're really appreciated. Pollock broke the mould and showed how painting can evolve. On one hand, I love that it is a full body style that uses not just the eye and hand, but also the legs and core (for balance!). However, most importantly for me is fluidity of movement to create composition - action painting (as Harold Rosenberg described it). Happy holidays to you, too.

You're very welcome, thanks for the explanation. It's amazing what can be done with the full body in action! Watching your new video now, look forward to more@@AbstractOrkney
