It's amazing how much work goes into such a tiny space 🤣
Beautiful space to walk into when you come home. Just goes to show how even the little spaces in your home shouldn’t be overlooked! Your MIL is lucky to have you guys helping, and you guys are lucky that she has such cool pieces!

I love that little wooden cabinet. It has loads of character and it’s probably far sturdier than anything available online or in the stores. The entryway is lovely and functional. Thank you for the inspiration. My main entrance is smaller than the space in this video. It’s crazy!

Thank you so much! It's been more fun than I thought it'd be to design spaces outside of my own style... don't tell anyone but I'm actually really digging the cottage style now
Now this is what design shows should do. People with real lives and real budgets and real spaces. Thank you. This is the first time I seen you or one of your videos. I'm subscribed !

April, nice makeover per usual. 🤗 I do like how you’re able to re-use so many of your MIL’s pieces, she has some beautiful ones for sure. There’s nothing quite like shopping one’s own home for treasures to use in different spaces. Sell them, donate, or use them. Thanks for all your amazing work. Hubby too! 😀

Now that you say that, that is exactly how I would describe her space. A mix of old and new!
I agree.... it's not enough space, behind the door, also it is bad Feng Shui to have things behind a door, to where it won't " fully open " . The space looks nice, oh my . Love that chest, it looks like an Eastlake style. Really looks inviting overall and the space feels " incorporated into " the home. 👏🏻👏🏻💛

Glad it was helpful! When we approached this iI said on mulitple occasions that it would be "quick" but watching the footage back I was also in shock at just how much time can go into such a small area. I think we need to highlight this more so that we won't feel bad when our spaces take longer!
It's all in the details! Tough to see that no good goes unpunished and there is no such thing as a five minute job.... could be a whopping bill from the electrician. Hope you tell us what you learn from Rugables. Great improvement to the property. Hope you were able to get that cabinet out of the middle of the living room!

They were able to switch out the other light, but for the one closest to where we were working... the wiring looked so old that it wasn't worth risking a potential house fire for, but likely expensive :( I will def fill you guys in after talking with Ruggable.
The close ups are nice, but could you stand back and give us the large overall view of the space? Thanks.

Hi April 👋 I’m new to your channel and I’m watching all your old content and I just wanted to let you know I love it! ❤ Pats for Izzy 🥰
Amazing make over. I say that alot with your work I know 😉 However, you really managed to work so well with this space - which is so tiny - but so important. It makes such a difference to a house to have an actual entry way - not sure why I feel that but I keep getting the visualisation of a bedroom where you open the door and bang! There is the whole room without deferiations of any sort - which is fine for a bedroom, obviously. But, somehow this wonderful little cottage feels like it deserves better than that. I think what you've done in this little space fits the bill perfectly - and I yet again fall in love with another of Mamma Jackson's pieces. I would run you over for that exquisite little cupboard - and to see it standing out and making itself known rather than added to a pile and anonymous warms my soul. And obviously the most important feature is the basket for pupper's lead!

Lovely makeover! You know the dried plants/flowers and the twigs/branches? How often do you have to change those? I'm planning on a makeover for my room so it's more practical and uses space better. Needs to suit my needs as an MA student and working from home - but still needs to feel like my room, not an office! Really want some dried plants but if you have to change them often I'm not sure... And I remember you just picked yours and dried them yourself!

I have a lot of dried flowers and they last a verry long time, some of them for years 😊. I just shake them gently outside to get dust off (every few weeks or so). I prefer the natural look over "fake" flowers.
@SpaceMakerMethod
2 жыл бұрын
OMG they are so low maintenance. My MIL had me hairspray them first so they'd last longer and honestly it's been 5 months I think and they look the exact same as the video. I'm sure larger leaf ones will get dusty over time, but otherwise, a great option!
I absolutely love what you’ve done with the entry way. You’re such an inspiration.

It's so easy to make something look good when you've got all the money to spend🤣 which isn't reasonable for most of us. So glad you're enjoying these makeovers! Thanks for watching!
I love it. She has a beautiful collection of furniture.
Looks great! Love how it fits in with the rest of the house, and uses the furniture that she already has and loves rather than going out any buying new. Question About wall texture…. I noticed in loads of American houses on KZread they often have the textured plaster on the walls….. is that normal in the US, is it fashionable there? Or was it fashionable before, but now is just the standard? You hardly ever see it here in the Uk, and it wouldn’t be something you would usually ask for….. generally people go for flat plastered walls. Just wondered 🤷🏻♀️.
@valonnia
2 жыл бұрын
IME textured walls can be found in older houses that used lathe and plaster. Maybe it was a design choice, maybe it was just easier to throw up texture than going for a smooth finish. It's obvious in my own house (1940s) which rooms were gutted and redone with sheetrock, and which have the original walls.
@Kate.West.
2 жыл бұрын
@@valonnia that’s interesting! My flat in London is about 115 years old so is a mix of brick, lath and plaster, and in areas that were obviously damaged at some point more modern plasterboard. But even the original walls were plastered flat (and then wallpapered over)…….. i find the differences in construction and decorating in different places/times around the world so interesting!
Looks so cute and welcoming

Thanks for showing that not everything goes perfectly every time. It sets a more realistic expectation about how much work goes into getting good results. I think nixing shoes & coats is the way to go here. Clutter begets clutter and sets a bad precedent for the whole house. Great video!!!

@SpaceMakerMethod
2 жыл бұрын
yes that was part of the reason that i've covered in other videos.
It's a cute space but you guys need to work on your finishings. You didn't punch the nails in and fill and sand before you painted. It takes away from the end result making it obvious you don't really know what you are doing. Or you couldn't be bothered?
@SpaceMakerMethod
2 жыл бұрын
We’ll that’s kind of rude 💛 - we never claimed to be pros at installing this. It’s our first time and we’re doing our best. To omit the need to sand, we used a higher end primer specifally for that. …Pretty sure I showed filling in as well.
Why do so many KZreadrs seem to believe that viewers want to hear some random dude singing while watching people restore houses? The last thing I want to do while observing someone working on a renovation is simultaneously try to process song lyrics. I can't multitask like that. As soon as someone starts singing, I have to hit the mute button. I don't care what the song is "about", it's distracting. Music, especially music with vocals, is _highly_ polarizing under the best of circumstances, and frankly should be as unobtrusive as possible in a video where a wide audience is desired. I can't stand the strummy faux-folksy discount singer-songwriter drivel that is purveyed on KZread videos these days, but other people hate the music I like, that's just how music works. So, limit your audience if you want, but know you are doing that with your music choices.
