another dangerous thing about Reggie was his arm. I've seen countless times he would throw someone out at 3rd from deep right field; and there was NO rainbow in his throw, it was a laser from his left hand to Nettles. will never be another like him

Yes I used to love watching him whiz that ball from right field he had a strong arm and was a pretty good outfielder. But everyone focused on some errors and said he was a bad fielder.

Sounds like Weehawken or North Bergen. Great area man, that's where I'm from too. Jackson wasn't just my favorite baseball player, he was my favorite athlete. No one had the style and flair of Reggie, before or since. I was watching the all star game when he hit that laser beam off Doc Ellis. I was an A's fan. My dad was watching from his recliner. I told him Jackson was goin yard. I knew what kind of pitching he destroyed and what Ellis was throwing was like filet mignon. If it hadn't hit the transformer on the roof of Tiger Stadium it might still be travelling today.

I was 16 years old when my dad took us on a holiday to the US from Europe in 1981. Huge fans that we were of Reggie, we simply had to watch the Yankees play. At the end of the game, we hung around the players' exit of the old Bronx Stadium, aching to catch one more glimpse of Mr. October. We waited for hours. In fact, it was night by the time his Corniche appeared through the gate, Reggie behind the wheel. What a thrill, all the kids went wild! Alas, he didn't wave, nod, honk or in any way acknowledge the mostly teenage boys and girls there. Reggie hit the gas and, poof, he was gone, in literally, a few seconds, lol. Of course there were no more cabs by then,; my dad and I ended up potential robber bait for an hour or so. If it hadn't been for this reporter who managed to snare an errant cab right in front of us, which he then offered to share, we probably would have still been roaming the Bronx now. But there's a sting in this story's tail, because that game was the second of a double-header and we'd also gone to the first game the day before. Except, on that day, New York was so hot that my mum passed out in the stands. She told us later that night, when we were back at our hotel, that whilst regaining consciousness from her fainting spell, the ambulance chaps were wheeling her gurney through the bowels of Yankee Stadium, when suddenly the entire Yankees team filed right passed her! Including Reggie! She said she could have touched them. What are the odds of that happening? But yeah, I guess that was enough awesomeness for our family, hehe. Good times.

Wrong you are !! Yankee Stadium has plenty of NYPD security on game night. Plus the immediate neighborhood is reasonably safe from what you sarcastically termed as ''robber bait''. Moreover, there are about 6 train station entrances in the immediate stadium area. There is also a TA Police District 11 Hq. right there by McDonalds on River Ave. Even if you weren't some foreign tourist with preconceived notions of Bronx criminality, your biased tourist ass was as safe as a baby's crib at the infant's hospital. STOP BASHING NY WHEN YOU HAVE NO IDEA ABOUT REALITY !!!!

Great special on the great Reggie Jackson, BUT I couldn't disagree more with the narrator suggesting that Billy Martin was "sticking it again to Reggie" by benching him for Game 5 of the 1977 ALCS. Reggie was only 1-14 up to that game, then got big RBI Single late in Game 5.

When Reggie came back to Yankee Stadium as an Angel, Guidry gave him that ball straight down the middle because Guidry and the Yankee team couldn't stand Steinbrenner and actually wanted Reggie to thumb his nose at George for not resigning him back to the 1982 Yankees. George didn't want to sign Reggie for another 5 year contract. Reggie actually only had 1 decent year left after he left the Yankees. 82 was Jackson's last best year. It showed too, that his numbers just weren't there and the game just passed him by. I would of gone 2 more years if I were Steinbrenner and offered him a resign for only 2 more years. Reggie wouldn't sign for 2 years as a Yankee. I can understand how he felt as a player, to try to get a 5 year million dollar contract. If I was Reggie, I would of signed with the Angels too. I don't wanna sound inconsistent but I would do 2 different things depending on whether I was a player or owner to one of the teams. I love Reggie, but business is business and no hard feelings.

@@davidsamuels9557Gator and Reggie were best buddies when they both played for the Yanks and they both shared one thing as do many Yankee players, they both got screwed by Steinbrenner. Reggie wanted to stay in New York and get a 5 year contract as a free agent with the Yanks, but Steinbrenner had himself a new slugger, Dave Winfield, which he later screwed him over a few years after that. Guidry got screwed over by Steinbrenner because Guidry wanted to end his career with the Yankees and didn't want to play for another team. Steinbrenner refused to pick up Gator's contract after it expired. Guidry was crushed by that. He just retired from the game. He could of gotten a few more years in the majors playing with another team but Guidry was a die-heart Yankee true and true. Both men were competitors, true. But both wanted to stick it in Steinbrenner's ass! Gator threw that pitch right down broadway and Reggie gave it a ride all the way into the bleachers. And you know what, Guidry stood there and cheered Reggie on. The crowd at Yankee Stadium cheered for Reggie too. They didn't want Reggie to go. Gator had class and he threw his special fuck you George pitch right where Reggie could extend those arms and send George a message! There were people chanting Fuck Steinbrenner! Gator didn't want to strike out Reggie. He had class and let Reggie have it. The thing about it was, Reggie knew Gator let him crush it. They were teammates and best of friends. The Yankees weren't going anywhere that year. If it was a playoff game that meant something, Ronnie wouldn't of thrown that pitch. Look at the video again. Both of them knew what that meant. They were sending Big George a message!

Yankees weren't going to win in 1982. Reggie might have made a different in 1983. 1984 wasn't an issue because Detroit started like 34-4. In 1985 and 1986 the Yankees were one starting pitcher short. By 1987 he was at the end of his career. So if he had resigned for five more years the Yankees might have made the post-season once.
