This is one of the most informative and overall greatest videos I have seen in a while. Can't wait until everyone starts copying it (I'm serious, can't wait to see what other folks come out with, where things overlap and differ, etc). I'm just getting back into miniature painting after a 15 year break and the whole hobby has changed. There are so many different paint makers, new colours, new systems like transparent one-coat paints, zenithal, slap-chop, and more! It's a great time to start painting with so much choice, but there are a LOT of choices! I have decided on the Xpress range based on your videos, but I also realise that I will need to supplement them with regular acrylics. Thanks for doing this video, Juan. It will really help focus my choices - not just on the paints you suggested, but on the categories (cold, warm, hues, saturation, versatility, etc). @JuanHidalgoMiniatures
Ай бұрын
Oh NICE! I might have to substitute Abbadon Black finally
A bit surprised that you went for only one white and only one black, that way you could have added more nuances. I don't have Abbadon black but I do have an old Vallejo model or game for bases because of the satin finish but the best are Pro Acryl Coal Black (literally charcoal in a bottle) and the GOAT all rounder AK 3rd gen Black (there is a reason it's almost always sold out). And although I do agree about the choice for the reds (I have the Pro Acryl and the Burnt Red is indeed the GOAT for darker reds), I'm also surprised about the absence of the very big range of reds of AK. I bought a couple and some were so bright that they looked to be fluorescent compared to the others. And you must absolutely do the same for contrast and similar paints since it's what you are known for on YT.
@JuanHidalgoMiniatures
Ай бұрын
Again, my selection of paints comes from the paints I own. Also 50 paints seems like a lot but you run out of spaces super fast. What would I take out for another black? or for more reds? I very much prefer more variety. That being said I already have ideas to improve it here and there.

Happy to help
Very good picks in here, definitely a good all-round list, and it has a lot of my go-to colours in it already. Even if I did take what you said about Dark Sea Blue and Incubi Darkness being basically the same personally, ha. There's still a few things you just won't be able to mix properly, like a pure quinacridone magenta, but part of the challenge is having to cut some corners like that. And I'm guessing that particular colour might show up in the Contrast-type/ink list, since there's translucent options you could glaze it in with, like Sigvald Burgundy.
@JuanHidalgoMiniatures
Ай бұрын
Yeah, you have to make tough choices and I would love to have a pure Magenta but it's also not a colour I use much so it's not a priority for me. I already have a couple small changes I want to make, like unifying the cold browns and bones into one and add a very bright yellow green and a pure blue.
