Making manic depression my strength | Sigursteinn Robert Masson | TEDxReykjavik

In his talk Sigursteinn discusses how manic depression changed the course of his life and led to his increased awareness and involvement in human and animal welfare issues.
Sigursteinn Robert Masson is a journalist by profession. In 1996 he was making a documentary film about the Geirfinnur- & Gudmundur criminal case that was broadcasted on RUV, the Icelandic national Television, and it opened the eyes of the Icelandic public to the serious miscarriage of justice in this case. He was diagnosed with manic depression in 1996, an event which changed his life course. He has been mainly working on human- and animal welfare issues since.
From 2001-2006 & 2008-2010 he was the President of The Icelandic Mental Health Alliance, chair of the National Organization of Disabled People in Iceland 2005-2008 and in 2003-2005 & 2008-2019 he represented the International Fund for Animal Welfare in Iceland & Norway. He is the author of four books. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

Thank you for your talk, you give me hope, strength and comfort to face up to my bipolar, own it and use it to strengthen my beliefs that this is who I am and always will be. Kay Jamieson also gave me hope given that she is a professor in psychiatry and who manages her condition very well. The hardest part is believing in yourself and I understand why you went public before telling family, friends etc. Part and parcel of being Bipolar Disordered!!

I'm am sad this doesn't have more views and likes. Absolutely beautiful. I've read A Unquiet Mind. Every human feels ups and downs, but it is nothing compared to what these beautiful people live through. Be kind, be patient, and be loving.

Sadness = face it(sadeness), release it, exercise, relax, rationalise, admit there is a problem, face the problem(issue), work on the problem slowly, find a solution slowly, solve the problem(abilities and knowledge increased), build knowledge and abilities in a parallel area-topic-continuum, 2x abilites for similar issues in future. Depression = face it, release it, cry it out, ask for help (build trackrecord), get help (doctors - establish case-record), rationalise, ..., ... same as the above. In future if there is any police case or friendship or employment, you will benefit from honesty and honest employers and desperate employers. Air-tank can keep accepting pressurisation until explosion. Depression can keep accumulating until manic-depression. Spiritually-destroyed sub-humans like to attack nice people. Nice people delay sharing information to clean off at least a few batches of arses.
