Making It in NYC as a Dog Walker | My Everyday Hustle | Chasing the Dream PBS
Ever wonder how dog walkers manage those enormous packs of dogs, let alone make ends meet? Meet Nadir Samara, a New York City dog walker who makes more money walking dogs in Brooklyn than he did working for an insurance company in Philadelphia.
ABOUT the series: We see them every day and often depend on them. They are an integral part of the fabric of any city, including New York. They are the people who make our lunch, deliver our dinner, drive us around, walk our dog, and sing for us in the subway. “My Everyday Hustle” offers five fascinating first-person profiles that reveal the struggles, successes, and “daily hustle” of everyday people.

Fellow NYC dog walker and I have to agree tourists are the worst part of this job. I cover Chelsea and Hudson Yards and the amount of times people randomly try to pet one of my dogs, especially the not-super-friendly ones, is actually ridiculous. And then they get angry when I tell them to stop lol

Is that a good area to work? I might be relocating to NYC and I walk dogs in SF. I also work a heavy tourist area in the marina and over the last 4.5v yrs I've found the routes to avoid the crowds.

I would recommend searching up areas that are dog heavy and learning some behavioral tips for working with dogs. Start with a dog who is well behaved and friendly and continue to learn from there! KZread is great for tips.
